Kozlowski Grateful for our Community’s support

Submitted By: Linda.Kozlowski@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Grateful for our Community’s support

I have really enjoyed campaigning during this election cycle and I am grateful for our community’s support! I felt a deep engagement with so many people, and it was wonderful to connect with old friends. It was invigorating to see that so many individuals have a sincere interest in community issues and that they were willing to share their ideas and listen to mine.

I do believe, in the end, we all want the same things:

We want a community that works together to solve
problems while preserving our village culture. We want
to see our community thrive while also focusing on
sustainable growth. We want to save our trees, our
landscapes and the environment.

We want to proactively manage Short Term Rentals so
we can benefit from their revenue while still maintaining
a livable community.

We are anxious to develop ways to provide housing for
our current and future workforce.

We want to search for ways our city can supplement its
revenue sources

I would be honored and excited to serve another term as one of Manzanita’s city councilors. I am really looking forward to hearing the ideas and perspectives of the new council team and I’m anxious to share with them the benefit of my experience. I know that combination will get us off to a fast and energized start in January.

I am personally motivated by challenges, inspired by creative energy and change, and I will bring stability and initiative to the tasks we will face. I am a problem solver and I will be wholly focused on getting things done.

The following three individuals, who have personal knowledge of my strengths and abilities relative to a city council seat, have graciously written endorsements and I am honored to share them with you here.. Retired State Representative Deborah Boone speaks to my understanding of how government works; Tillamook County Commission Mary Faith Bell comments on my leadership and consensus-building abilities, and Jenna Edginton, our newest city councilor, believes that my skills and experience will galvanize the entire council team toward positive action.

Retired State Representative Boone:
I have known Linda Kozlowski for several years, mostly through the emergency preparedness sector. I also served with her on the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay (EVCNB) board of directors and experienced first-hand the depth of her commitment to her community in Manzanita. Linda has earned the respect of the broader statewide emergency preparedness community and her experience in this sector has made her the Go-To person for elected officials along the Oregon coast. Linda understands how governments work from local to federal levels and she knows how to get things done. She was often in the committee rooms during legislative sessions helping to shepherd bills through the process and serving as an expert witness. Her ability to grasp the details of the issues of concern to Manzanita citizens make her valuable to the City Council. I can’t recommend her highly enough for this important position.

Tillamook County Commissioner Mary Faith Bell:
I enthusiastically endorse Linda Kozlowski for reelection to the Manzanita City Council. In my capacity as county commissioner, it has been my privilege to work with Linda on emergency preparedness issues, for which she is recognized statewide. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for Linda’s leadership, her heart for service to the community and her ability to develop, nourish and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of people. Moreover, Linda is a dynamo, she accomplishes amazing things, and leads and inspires others to great works as well. Truly, it is accurate to say that Linda brings out the best in people, often more than they knew they were capable of. Linda’s continued leadership on the Manzanita City Council is in everyone’s best interest. Please vote for Linda Kozlowski.

Councilor Jenna Edgington:
Before I applied for the open position on City Council in August, I agreed to assist Linda with her re-election campaign. I have since attended several meetings with Linda and I continue to be impressed by her subject knowledge, professionalism, and her ability to work together as a team and compromise. With a virtually new city council and mayor I believe it is imperative that Linda Kozlowski have a seat at the table. She will enable the new Council to hit the ground running by being able to provide insight on past Council decisions and also her thorough understanding on how the City functions and the role of City Council. Linda has already been a tremendous help to me as I learn the ropes in my new role on Council.

As we approach election day, I urge you to vote for the candidates and issues that best represent your hopes and desires for our city, our county, and our state.

I hope you will choose to elect me to a city council seat and I promise that I will work hard to repay your trust and do the right things for Manzanita.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Submitted By: ml2@comcast.net – Click to email about this post
I want to speak to the 75% of you who have not yet returned your ballots. First of all, I’m hoping
you really do vote in this election. Even with our successful vote-by-mail system, many of us still
seem to wait until Election Day to cast our ballots. That’s fine, but even knowing that, a 25% return with less than a week remaining seems a little low to me.

Here’s an example of one of my concerns. The other day, I met someone I “sort of know” from
the community. Now, for reasons that will become apparent, I’m not going to identify her,
nor will I. The conversation went something like this. She, knowing I am a candidate for City
Council here in Wheeler, wanted to talk to me about the election. She wasted no time getting
straight to her point. She wanted to know who I was voting for. Now, I ordinarily keep that kind
of information close to the vest. But I believe she was genuinely interested in knowing how
one candidate was voting. So, I told her my vote went to, besides myself, Mary Leverette,
Heidi Stacks and Walt Porter. One thing led to another in our conversation until she pressed
me on why my vote didn’t go to even one incumbent. I said something like, “Well, there
aren’t that many of them running and besides, I wasn’t particularly happy with the outcome
when we voted two years ago”. At that point, she bristled and told me that she hadn’t voted
for any of them. In fact, when pressed, she really couldn’t remember when she had last voted in a local election. Well, it was then that I got on my soapbox and told her pretty much what I’m using here to relate to you.

Voting at our local level is so important. Every vote counts and – as we have all heard on more
than one occasion, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain!”

So, come on, 75%. I know we can do it! Please vote in your municipal election.

Candidate for Wheeler City Council

Mayerle for Manzanita: Recapping My Run

Submitted By: mayerleformanzanita@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I’m Brad Mayerle, and I’m running for Manzanita City Council.

If you are still pondering Manzanita City Council choices, this is for you. I thought a quick recap of my campaign activities would help you understand why I’m the right choice.

I announced my candidacy in May. Since then, I’ve hit the ground running—taking the pulse of our community with an open mind by meeting with residents and genuinely listening.

Here’s a recap of my efforts on the campaign trail:

In my campaign announcement, I immediately discussed the great need for a clear vision for our future and better planning…with a sense of urgency. I’ve heard your concerns about livability, the ongoing city hall project, closing trails to access the beach, dune grading, loss of wildlife habitat, and construction and light noise. I’ve understood your hope for a diverse and vibrant community that welcomes visitors but, first and foremost, meets the needs of the people who call Manzanita home. And I believe there are solutions and that we can find common ground if we work together earnestly and respectfully.

I’ve provided complete transparency. I told you who I am and what I do. While I have no prior government experience, I do have 30 years of experience as a medical professional, working with teams to evaluate, diagnose, and treat complex problems. This experience is what I have to contribute, and I’ll use it as my starting point to bring about a positive change in our community. The problems we face are complex but not unsolvable.

Continuing the spirit of transparency, I created a blog that tracks my daily activities—whom I’ve met with, what I’ve learned from them, what I’m reading, what I’m attending, and what I’m thinking, along with stories about my personal life. Check it out: bit.ly/bradsdailyblog

I also invite you to read all of my posts on North Coast BBQ bit.ly/Brad_BBQ . If you combine this writing effort with what’s chronicled on my blog, you will see that I’ve done the work.

My campaign has been creative, respectful, and dedicated to meeting residents face-to-face—not a bombardment on social media. Instead, I’ve focused on building the case of why my experience matters. We all have our own styles, our own history, and our own ways of learning and making decisions—everyone needs a seat at the table, and I’m determined to provide one for you.

Our democracy allows you to decide which leaders will help move us forward. To this end, I have done my best to earn your vote.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have, and I welcome your feedback. You can contact me at MayerleforManzanita@gmail.com. Feel free to visit my website: bit.ly/MayerleforManz And while you’re there, check out the unsolicited endorsements from voters I have met along the way: bit.ly/votingforbrad

Mark Talks About Hard Decisions for the New City Council

Submitted By: MarkForCouncil2022@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Manzanita’s new City Council members take office in January 2023 and will immediately face decisions that will shape our town for years to come.

My long-term interest and involvement in our town both in local organizations and city government has prepared me to face these challenges head on.

The decisions made will call for hard choices as we weigh Manzanita livability issues vs. our need for revenue stability. They include:
– Deciding on funding a new City Hall
– Revising the Comprehensive Plan and updating city ordinances to support that plan
– Housing that is affordable
– Acting on Short Term Rental regulations
– Appointing new citizen volunteers to important committee/commission positions
– Potential legal challenges from the developer of the 34-room hotel near the Golf Course

I will make sure that our decisions are arrived at with the input from our citizens and in the best interests for our city’s future.

I’m Mark Kuestner and I ask for your vote for City Council. Visit my website, www.MarkForCouncil2022.com to learn more.

Mayerle for Manzanita: Gratitude from the Campaign Trail

Submitted By: mayerleformanzanita@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I’m Brad Mayerle, and I’m running for Manzanita City Council.

As election night nears and the campaigning starts to wind down, I’ve been reflecting on this wild ride I hopped on this past May. They call it the campaign “trail” for a reason. Parts are straight and narrow, some wide open, and other parts are twisted and circuitous…and there are many forks in the road. It’s been a journey for sure, and one that has mostly brought me pleasure—for a multitude of reasons.

First and foremost are the people I met along the way. I instigated numerous meetings with a variety of people—from residents, property owners, businesses, city officials (past and present), experts, volunteers, and, yes, even my opponents and some of their supporters.
I want to thank each and every one of them for “taking my call” and taking the time out to tell me their stories and perspectives, educate me about all the nuances, and, most of all, encourage me. I’ve received unexpected support from some of the most surprising places. “Surprising” because some have labeled me “the outsider” (even though I’ve had a home here for 22 years). I think I get this label because I’m not the status quo, and I don’t have an established reputation—good or bad—around town. However, I feel this represents many of us who live more quiet lives and don’t feel the need for exposure about how we participate and contribute to the community in our own subtle but impactful ways.

Secondly, I’m inspired by the folks who genuinely care about our community but have felt like their voices have not been heard and are finding new venues to rise above the noise of common communication channels, like social media or speaking up at public events—places where many of the loudest voices reign. Through the campaigning process, I’ve discovered that groups are forming, made up of like-minded people banding together to create louder and more informed voices about the concerns of many. This is democracy at its finest. As a city councilor, this is what I hope to facilitate in the future—creating venues and opportunities for everyone to be heard and encouraging people to formulate their ideas and find their voice so we can bring this community together.

Lastly, and more selfishly, is what I’ve learned about myself. The past several months have been a time of tremendous growth and discovery for me. I’ve learned you can teach an old dog new tricks (i.e., running for office). And that your past can play a tremendous role in what you can contribute to the future. The years I spent as a dentist are paying back in spades in ways I never imagined. I rediscovered how much I love talking with people and hearing about their lives and ideas. I’ve realized how the lessons I’ve learned in my personal and professional life have set me up for the potential to make thoughtful policy decisions that take a number of variables into consideration. And I’ve discovered, once again, a genuine sense of community—an amalgamation of varying knowledge, viewpoints, ambitions and aspirations.

I could go on and on about my experiences along the way, but I think you get the gist. My blog, which chronicles my daily campaign activities, thoughts, and personal stories, can help you fill in the blanks. Please take a look: bit.ly/bradsdailyblog And to read the unsolicited endorsements from people I’ve met on the campaign trail, go to: bit.ly/votingforbrad

Sincerely,

Brad Mayerle

Wheeler Voters Change direction Write in Heidi Stacks for 2-Year Council Term

Submitted By: nedtouno2@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Wheeler Voters – If you are not satisfied with the direction in which Wheeler has been going the past two years – Write in Heidi Stacks for a 2-Year Council Term (underneath Clif Kemp’s name on the ballot)!

When you open your ballot, you will see that Clif Kemp is unopposed for a two-year term. Mr. Kemp was appointed (not elected) to the City Council about two years ago. While some of us weren’t necessarily attending all City Council meetings, asking questions of our elected officials to hold them accountable to everyone in Wheeler, the Council was making decisions that have placed the City of Wheeler in major legal and financial jeopardy. That is an unavoidable and very unfortunate fact (whatever your stance on the development proposals that have divided our community).

Wheeler is paying hefty legal fees to defend the City in federal court and in actions before the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). The City has a small budget and is considering the sale of assets to cover on-going legal expenses. Regular operating expenses are being reduced – have you noticed the marked decrease in staff and public service hours at City Hall?

You do have a choice if you want Wheeler to change direction! Write in Heidi Stacks for the two-year term on City Council. Heidi previously served on City Council and as Mayor and has always taken seriously her responsibilities as an elected official. She educates herself on best practices of councilors and city councils in Oregon. Heidi is a tireless volunteer for emergency preparedness and you can count on her to show up for Wheeler. Heidi and her family have lived in Wheeler for decades. Heidi will help Wheeler ‘stop digging’ and find a way through the current legal and financial morass.

Vote today for Heidi Stacks – write in – two year Wheeler City Council term!

Mark Wants Safe Access for All

Submitted By: MarkForCouncil2022@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I’ve spoken with residents who aren’t able to join many of the activities we often take for granted. Imagine not being able to attend Muttzanita’s beach games, or participate in a beach cleanup activity, or even attend the Farmer’s Market, because the ground is not stable enough to navigate. There’s an affordable product that allows safe access for everyone to beaches and areas with rough ground: Mobi Mats (shop.mobi-mat.com/).

I contacted the Lincoln City Visitor Center recently to learn how we could follow their lead, buy and install the Mobi Mats here in Manzanita. Many communities up and down the coast are now using these mats.

Lincoln City was able to pay for the Mobi Mats with Transient Lodging Tax money earmarked for tourism. The justification was that they would receive publicity value in source markets that would be equal to or greater than the cost of the mats.

The mats can be rolled out in the spring, then rolled back up in the fall, and are compact and easy to store. One side benefit noticed was that more beach visitors used the mats to access the beach, reducing foot traffic on the dunes.

Let’s look at this affordable solution to increasing safe and easy access not only to our amazing shoreline but for events such as the Manzanita Farmers Markets for both residents and visitors!

I’m Mark Kuestner, and I’m asking for one of your votes for the two open City Council positions for Manzanita City Council on November 8. Visit my website, www.MarkForCouncil2022.com to learn more.
