Handyman Recommendation

Submitted By: kpurdom@me.com – Click to email about this post
Hello BBQ
I want to share a recommendation for a reliable handyman.
His name is Thomas Woodruff with Affordable Property Management. 971)389-6970
He replied to my search here on bbq the same day, and came to my home the following day to do my roof repair. He is skilled in many repairs from the roof to the foundation, and guarantees his work. It’s refreshing to have found someone who is reliable and trustworthy.

MISSING “R”

Missing “R”
Has anyone seen Wheeler’s “R” ?
Hard to miss- large, white, looks like an upper case “D” with 2 legs.
May have taken off with some teens or decided to get a facelift in someone’s workshop.
I heard rumors it was hoping for an ocean view and wanted to take over the “A”
joining the letters in “ManzanitR” and has been in contact with the “G” on the hill in Garibaldi.

If you’ve realized there’s no place like home “R”
We still have a humble place for you in the marsh grass on the bay off the hwy. Please come home!
No questions asked.

Writers Read Deadline is Friday, Jan. 20: Hemingway Awaits!

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
It’s time to polish those entries for the Writers Read Celebration sponsored by the Cannon Beach Library. The deadline is Friday, Jan. 20.
Here’s the original news release and flyer for the event:
Suppose novelist Ernest Hemingway arrived at the Oregon coast and wanted to write about his experience in a maximum of 600 words. What would he write?
This year’s Writers Read Celebration, sponsored by the Cannon Beach Library, asks that question with the theme, “Hemingway at the beach: What Would He Say?”
Writers of all ages from all areas are invited to consider how or what Hemingway would say while at the beach. All written formats will be considered (essay, story, poetry, haiku, script, etc.) Authors are limited to three entries with a 600-word maximum per entry. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 20.
A panel of volunteer judges will select 10 to 12 works to be read by their authors either in person or online during the celebration March 10 in the library.
Hemingway wrote about his experiences using as few words as possible, and his novels and short stories have become classics. The Writers Read Celebration offers an opportunity to have fun with this writing style in any form; the piece can be serious, whimsical, tongue-in-cheek or thoughtful.
Submissions will be accepted by email at info@cannonbeachlibrary.org) or by mail (P.O. Box 486
Cannon Beach, OR 97110), though email is preferred.
Submissions should be in Word or PDF format and include a cover letter with the writer’s name, email and phone number. Please do not include the author’s name or contact information on the entry
document so authors remain anonymous during the judging process.
The NW Authors Series Committee sponsors monthly author presentations and other events at the Cannon Beach Library. This is the fifth year of the Writers Read Celebration. Previous themes were: “Life on the North Coast,” “The View from the North Coast,” “Pandemic” and “Recovery?.” Writers Read Celebrations on Zoom from 2022 and 2021 are available for viewing on Cannon Beach Library’s website.

We hope to see you at the theater and we’re proud to announce the 2023 lineup that we hope you’ll enjoy and support!

Rehearsals are underway for ‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’ with a March 18th opening and directed by Vicki Haker.

Auditions for ’12 Angry Jurors’, based on the Henry Fonda movie ’12 Angry Men’, will be held in early March. We’ll be looking for 13-14 men and women to fill the cast.

’12 Angry Jurors’ opens June 2nd and will be directed by Frank Squillo who previously directed ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ and last month’s ‘It’s A Wonderful Life: The Radio Play’.

Following the success of ‘Dracula: The Radio Play’ last October we are proud to announce the debut of ‘Frankenstein: The Radio Play’ just in time for the 2023 Halloween season, opening on October 20th.

And we’ll round out the year giving It’s a Wonderful Life’ a rest after 5 years with a full-stage production of the holiday classic ‘A Christmas Story’, opening December 4th.

We’re very excited that we already have a Major Award Leg Lamp, a Legendary Official Red Ryder 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle, and a can of Simoniz being offered to us by Scott Fisher for our holiday production. And we promise we won’t shoot our eye out!

Thank you for all the community support in our record-breaking 2022 season and keep watching for more details about our 2023 lineup at www.RiverbendPlayers.org.

Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley announced today his first round of in-person town halls in 2023. Merkley will hold a town hall for each of Oregon’s 36 counties.
“I hold a town hall for every Oregon county, every year because there is simply no substitute to hearing directly from folks about the ideas and priorities that matter most to them and their communities. Oregonians’ thoughts help shape my work in Congress, including positions on policies, ideas for bills, and strategies for securing resources for every corner of our state,” Merkley said.

Construction begins at MTS

Submitted By: dmccalltillamook@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The Manzanita Transfer Station, located at 34995 Necarney City Rd, has been home to an open burn site, a landfill, and has operated as a municipal solid waste (MSW) transfer station and recycling facility since 1981, under DEQ Solid Waste Disposal Site Permit #342. The quantities of materials collected at this site have increased over the years, reflecting the increasing population and economic activities in the area. Planning activities initiated in 2017 were completed in 2022.

As the owner and operator of this site, we are pleased to announce that construction is scheduled to being on a significant expansion project during the week of January 9, 2023. This investment will result in additional Z-walls, creating capacity to serve the community’s needs in the upcoming years. Z-walls enable the efficient transfer of small loads into large containers, which are then compacted and shipped off for final management.

Efforts have been made to restrict construction activities to times and areas separated from public access, to the extent possible. This means that most of users of the transfer station will not experience any impact during construction. All recycling activities will continue as usual. Scrap metal and yard debris acceptance will continue as usual. Trash acceptance will continue, though periodic restrictions may limit access to the so-called trailer lanes on the west side of the fee station.

Our ability to accept large quantities of rubble (clean fill, sand, concrete, bricks, etc.) may be impacted during construction. Please contact staff before bringing any quantities of rubble greater than ¼ cubic yard to ensure we have the ability to accept your material.

Lastly, we are all excited about the improvements this construction project will bring, but it is important that the contractors are able to work without disturbances or intrusions. We request that everyone respect that, stay out of the designated construction area, and be aware of equipment coming and going on site.

If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to contact my office for more information.

Thank you,

David McCall
Solid Waste Program Manager
