SUNFLOWERS FOR UKRAINE

Submitted By: helidoni@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
There is such great need for support in Ukraine, and children are uniquely impacted by the war there.

The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and Mindy Claflin of Nehalem was inspired to start a group fundraiser. At the Tillamook Headlight Herald Home and Garden Show next weekend, they will offer more than 5 different types of sunflower seedlings at $2 each. The seedlings include the American Giant Hybrid, which can grow to 14-16 feet high, as well as smaller types such as Dwarf Teddy Bear and Dwarf Sunspot, which are container varieties.

A beautiful 3-dimensional sunflower wall quilt created and donated by Michelle Vinciguerra of Neahkahnie will be offered as a silent auction item. Bids start at $300, with increments of $25. You may call in a bid now to Terri Maragos at (503) 368-5203 or at helidoni@nehalemtel.net if you want to get a head start. The quilt is valued at $750. “Sunflowers for Ukraine” will also feature T-shirts, stickers, buttons, bracelets and other small items.

The Home and Garden Show is at the fairgrounds in Tillamook Sat. April 30, 9-4 and Sun. May 1, 11-4. Entrance and parking are free.

All proceeds from the booth will go directly to the Ukraine campaign of the nonprofit Save the Children. The team ID# is TRT-4128, “Sunflowers for Ukraine.” With that ID on the memo line, checks can also be sent directly to Save the Children, PO Box 97132, Washington DC 20090. This is a highly rated charity which has been operating in Ukraine since 2014.

Please plan to join us at the upcoming show. We’ll be glad you did!

Measure 29-163

Submitted By: briantjmcmahon@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I’m a Vietnam veteran. Measure 29-163 on the primary election ballot is an opportunity for people to truly thank a veteran for their service. “Thank you for your service” are shallow words, if only said and not backed up by action. Measure 29-163 would financially support the Tillamook County Veterans
Service Office. The VSO has helped me and numerous veterans in seeking justice and rewarding
our service to our country. Vote yes for measure 29-163 and truly justify it when you say “Thank you for
your service” to a veteran.

Tomato Plants available at Nehalem Bay Garden Club Sale

Submitted By: barbaraandchuck@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
The Nehalem Bay Garden Club will have over 500 gallon pots of at least 19 varieties of tomatoes available at their annual Plant Sale. The sale will be held on May 7 from 9-4 and May 8 from 10-noon and is located at the junction of Hwy 53 and North Fork Rd in Nehalem. (Look for the Horse Sculpture!)

These varieties were specifically chosen by experienced members because they are proven performers in our coastal climate.

Indeterminate tomatoes grow on long vines, generally require pruning to 1 or 2 leaders that need to be trellised.

Determinate tomatoes grow compactly, sprawling laterally, usually don’t require staking (but we still recommend it), and fruit that ripens over a short period of time, but most produce all season here. (list of determinate varieties at the sale below indeterminate list.)

The HomeGrown Farm Stand, dedicated to Shelly Bowe, that resided at Kendra’s River Inn for a couple seasons, has now moved a bit to north down Hwy. 53 to the White Clover Grange. In keeping with The Grange’s mission to support local agriculture, it seemed a perfect fit for the local area farm stand. When Kendra Hall-Bramall moved and closed the River Inn, local area residents wanted to ensure the Farm Stand continued, and so did Kendra.
Enter the Grange – the perfect place for the Farm Stand!
Open daily, starting tomorrow Monday April 18th at noon, the farm stand features locally-produced organic vegetables, plants and more. The self-serve stand has a variety of plants available – and more arriving weekly.
The Farm Stand proceeds will go to benefit the Grange’s building maintenance fund.
Got good stuff growing? Want to sell your produce or products at Shelly Bowe’s HomeGrown Farm Stand – text or call Kendra at 503-801-1442.
“We want the Farm Stand to be another retail outlet for our local gardeners, farmers and produces,” said Kendra. “All to benefit the Grange.”

New Owner of spa manzanita

Submitted By: janicebge@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello dear friends of spa manzanita,
I am writing to you all today to let you know that I have sold spa manzanita.

Back in 2006 when I thought opening a day spa in Manzanita “might work” and “someone should do it, so why not me? I had no idea of what an amazing journey I would go down. So so many stories, adventures and relationships, tears and success!
I feel very blessed (and a bit lucky), to have created this wonderful place in our beautiful town. But there is no way I could have done it without your support and kindness. This very much includes the spa staff over the years. I was very fortunate to have such a great team along the way.we
I will truly miss seeing you walk in the door of the spa, your smile and hugs that have been there over the many years, but they are all held in my heart forever!

The new owner Maggie is absolutely wonderful, again I have been blessed with the most perfect person to take the spa on and continue to service our community. Not only is she the new owner of spa manzanita but she is a new dear friend of mine.

I am not going away (except for a 2 week road trip in May in my new Transit van), my husband Mike and I are staying right here. I plan on continuing my work as a Health/Wellness Coach, and of course surfing, fishing and having fun any way I can.

Gratitude fills my heart right now, and a bit of sadness, but mostly joy and love!
Thank you,
Janice Gaines-Ehlen

2022 ‘CONVERSATIONS WITH FUNDERS AND PARTNERS’ GOES VIRTUAL APRIL 12-21! (PHOTO)

News Release from Oregon Cultural Trust
Posted on FlashAlert: March 31st, 2022 9:26 AM

Salem, Ore. – Grant makers offering more than $5 million in funding for FY2023 will gather virtually with the Oregon Cultural Trust for four regional 2022 “Conversations with Funders and Partners” events from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 12 (Southern Oregon), April 14 (Portland Metro/Willamette Valley), April 19 (Central/Eastern Oregon) and April 21 (Oregon Coast).

The free online interactive events will enable grant seekers to learn about funding programs available and will include breakout rooms where they can discuss their projects and programming with specific funders. NOTE: Capacity is limited, so early registration is encouraged: bit.ly/3uKuQ3X

Participating with the Cultural Trust will be representatives from three of its Statewide Partners – the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Heritage and Oregon Humanities – as well as colleagues from the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation and Travel Oregon.

Organizations encouraged to attend “Conversations with Funders and Partners” include community development organizations, libraries, arts organizations, museums, cultural and community centers, parks and trails groups, historical societies, arts alliances, literary groups and heritage organizations. All cultural nonprofit organizations that are planning cultural projects are welcome.

“There are more than 1,500 cultural nonprofits serving Oregonians,” said Aili Schreiner, Cultural Trust manager. “We want to make sure they know about the significant funding and programming resources that are available to support them.”

Oregon Cultural Trust Cultural Development Program

Among the funding opportunities discussed at the online Conversations event will be the Cultural Trust’s FY2023 Cultural Development Program (funds to be awarded summer of 2022).

The Cultural Development Program recognizes and supports significant projects through four program funded categories: Access; Preservation; Creativity; and Capacity.

In 2021 the Cultural Trust awarded more than $3.2 million in statewide grants. Cultural Development Program grants represent one third of the annual funding the Cultural Trust provides to Oregon’s cultural nonprofits. Other funding includes grants to the Trust’s five statewide partners – to support their mission goals and respective funding programs – and to 45 county and tribal cultural coalitions that fund local initiatives, projects and programs.

FY2023 Cultural Development Program grants are for projects and activities that will occur between Sept. 1, 2022, and Aug. 31, 2023.

Grant guidelines are now posted for a Friday, May 6, application deadline.

For more information contact Schreiner at aili.schreiner@biz.oregon.gov or 503- 428-0963.

North County Food Bank and Clothing Bank Building Reopens

Submitted By: northtillamookcountyfoodbank@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The North County Food Bank and Clothing Bank is excited to announce that we will be welcoming our neighbors back inside the Food Bank building starting Tuesday, April 5. In addition to shelter from wind and rain, you’ll find our free racks stocked with extra goodies for Food Bank clients as well as children’s books and information about community resources.

The Clothing Bank will also be open for browsing. Full racks of clothing, linens, and other miscellaneous items await you. You do not need to be a Food Bank client to access the Clothing Bank. It’s a community resource for all who need clothing.

The Food Bank also offers free at-home Covid tests and masks if you need them. We do ask that folks wear masks while in the building to protect our volunteers, most of whom are over 65. Clients not wishing to mask can have their orders taken outside and we’ll bring the food out.

A special thanks to our community for its ongoing support of the Food Bank during the pandemic. We really appreciated all the coats and warm clothing donated during our February coat drive.

Hours are 12 pm – 3 pm on Tuesdays. We can also take donations of food, clothing, or hygiene items during those hours. We are located at 278 Rowe Street in Wheeler, across the parking lot from the Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy (Rinehart Clinic).

in2Egress Casting Call – 20 something couple

Submitted By: nehalembayexperience@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello. My name is Drew Reid and I am creating a short film called in2Egress this June. Original script/local cast-crew/set around the Nehalem Bay.
PLOT= After 17 years in a state psychiatric facility, Henry Tohl is returning to his home town. Local apprehension is surpassed only by his family’s dread of the truth Henry is bringing with him.
Speaking of Henry, I have found someone far beyond my expectations to become Henry. Now I’m sure we can create something very interesting.
Next I’m looking for a young (over 20-under 30 in appearance) couple to play the parts of young folks struggling to accept the fact that they have passed. A couple because they are fighting and only a real couple could give me those looks.
TIME= Rehearsal is about 2 hours. Filming is 4-6 hours in one day (in theory). No acting background needed, just a desire to shine.
If this is something you both would like to try, contact me at nehalembayexperience@gmail.com
This is a link to the Casting Call Trailer = https://youtu.be/J932adC-0L4
Cheers, Drew.
