Responses to Shaukya’s Art:
“I found Ms. Dekker’s paintings to be incredibly full of life and force. Each painting I viewed had its own distinct character, although sometimes it would take some time before I could tune in to a painting’s particular quality and personality. They all communicated a deep sense of intimacy, of vulnerability — of something deep or mysterious being shown. A secret being shared. Beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes utterly joyful — the time I spent with her paintings was a ride full of feeling and delight.”

“Shaukya’s paintings vibrate with an intriguing energy, spellbounding the viewer into an unanticipated realm. She relates directly to the canvas with her hands rather than allowing an intermediary paint brush which enables her work to convey an even more direct, living presence. What an unexpected delight to come upon this until now unknown bold work!”

“Viewing each painting became a participatory experience; one filled with wonder and beauty. I felt brightened. I combined with her images at depth. When thus viewing or “living in” Shaukya’s paintings, I found new world; a world of deep resonance with Light and now a place I can live in. May others find her art and be so fortunate!”

Lee Hiltenbrand was named Manzanita’s Citizen of the Year at the June 8 meeting of the city council.

Announcing the honor, Mayor Mike Scott said Hiltenbrand “brought considerable professional technical background to the corps of volunteers who serve our city, its citizens, and the surrounding communities.”

Scott added, “Knowledge, humor, and commitment have been the hallmarks of that service.”

Hiltenbrand has participated on the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay, the Friends of the North Tillamook County Library board, the Short-Term Rental Oversight Work Group, and the Planning Commission, and the Public Works Augmentation Team.

Manzanita’s Citizen of the Year is selected annually by a committee of previous honorees.

Katherine McDowell – Abstract Seascapes

“These prints have been selected from my “Lake Monotype” series. Started in 2008, this series contains over 450 original, one-of-a-kind prints inspired by Lake Michigan. This work is a celebration of my love for the colors and textures of nature. They are made by layering various colored printing inks onto a plexiglass plate with rollers, brayers and paintbrushes, then running the plate through a hand-cranked press with the highest quality printmaking paper. The term “monotype” means that only one print can be made so each one is unique.”

Ben Killen Rosenberg

“Where the Wonder Garden now is, the old Hoffman house used to sit. Studio space rented for $100 a month and for a time before its demolition, I had a small studio on the second floor. I come from a family of gleaners and artists so when there was a call to help clear out and take down the building, I showed up to see what might be salvaged. Between the floor and the subfloor, I discovered a vapor barrier made of large sections of movie posters and advertisements from the 40’s. Some were in remarkably good shape; all were large and in sections. The more I looked at them, the more I saw the stereotypes and unintended irony of the images for viewers now. The subtext intrigues me, and that’s true of all my work. These monotypes and monoprints are all inspired from these posters.”

Our Library Thanks the Community

Our Library Thanks the Community

On behalf of North Tillamook Library Friends — which provides the building and grounds that house our library in Manzanita — I extend heartfelt thanks to everyone in the community who made our annual Memorial Day book sale one of our most successful ever. This year’s sale produced just over $8,000 in total revenue, which will enable Library Friends to keep our Library in tiptop shape. Our annual book sale truly was a community effort, from the hundreds of book buyers who came out on a rainy Saturday to snap up book bargains and make additional donations to Library Friends, to the three organizations that opened their doors to house the sale — Calvary Bible Church, Hoffman Center for the Arts, and Pine Grove Community House, to the more than 175 volunteers who worked on sale day and during the year of preparation for the sale. Overseeing all those volunteers was the volunteer-in-chief, book sale director Madeline Olson. The book sale exemplifies the exceptional community spirit in North Tillamook County, and underscores the motto of North Tillamook Library Friends: Building a Community of Learners Since 1987.

With deepest gratitude,
Steve Brier
President, North Tillamook Library Friends

When Betsy Johnson opposed gun safety reforms

Submitted By: wattchildress@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
Four years ago I wrote the op-ed linked below, following the mass shooting of school children in Parkland, Florida. Oregon’s weak response to that national tragedy can be attributed in part to state senator Betsy Johnson. She left the Democratic party last year and is now running for governor as an unaffiliated candidate. Fans claim she’ll be an unbiased mediator, help us cut through partisan strife to tackle urgent issues like gun safety. Her record says otherwise.

Here’s a very nice white bathroom sink that was put in a few months prior to replacing. Ended up needing a black sink after putting in black granite in bathroom. My loss, your gain.
Sink is if perfect condition and is a “Pennington Top-Mount Vitreous China Bathroom Sink in White with Overflow Drain”.
