ORCHESTRA PRESENTS FAMILY CONCERTS

Submitted By: sdawagner@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2023-2024 season with two concerts in March. Designed to please audience members of all ages, the performances will feature Greg Smith’s Zoo Song. This musical story of a young person’s first visit to the zoo is a wonderful form for introducing the various orchestral instruments, as each animal in the story is represented by a musical “voice.” The narrator will be Deac Guidi, a local professional opera singer who has performed throughout the northwest region. He also teaches Speech Communication at Clatsop Community College.
Continuing the animals theme, the program includes three short pieces from Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. A solo cello, string bass, and clarinet portray an elegant swan, a lumbering elephant, and a cuckoo calling, all accompanied by pianist Diane Amos.
Other highlights of the concerts include the orchestral work Irlande by Augusta Holmès, the familiar Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar, Julius Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators, and Elmer Bernstein’s Great Escape March.
The first concert will take place on Saturday, March 16, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.
The second concert will be on Sunday, March 17, at the Bob Chisholm Community Center (1225 Avenue A, Seaside, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.
Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for both concerts.
Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.

– CRIMES OF THE HEART OPENING WEEKEND!
March 1st – 17th Tickets at www.RiverbendPlayers.org
CRIMES OF THE HEART:
This darkly comedic play by Beth Henley delves into the messy lives of the Magrath women, each grappling with their own “crimes of the heart.”
Under a searing Mississippi sun, the Magrath sisters’ fragile lives shatter when Babe, the youngest, shoots her philandering husband.
Summoned home, the eldest, Lenny, wrestles with small-town stagnation and dreams of escape.
Meg, the middle sister, a washed-up singer, drowns her past in whiskey, returning with secrets clinging to her like Spanish moss.
As Babe’s legal storm brews, the kitchen of their childhood home becomes a pressure cooker of buried memories and blistering truths.
Past resentments erupt, revealing the scars of their mother’s suicide and their father’s desertion. Their eccentric cousin Chick stirs the pot, while their flamboyant lawyer Barnette offers shaky legal support and a dash of unexpected romance.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning play paints a bittersweet portrait of Southern women struggling to rise above their “crimes of the heart” and embrace the promise of a brighter future.

Last Night’s City of Manzanita Virtual Town Hall, February 27 2024: video of the event with Manzanita Mayor Kathryn Stock, all Manzanita City Council: Brad Hart, Linda Kozlowski, Jerry Spegman and Tom Campbell. City Manager Leila Aman and a bevy of architects/contractors/specialists describe and clarify all the ins and outs of the process.
There was a great overview from way back when, to where we are now (almost) construction!
It’s clear there has been a massive amount of work from many, many people, past and present to get us to this point. This includes all of us as participants over the years in helping narrow down what we want and can afford.
