We will be able to re-open the Food Bank and Clothing Bank on Tuesday, June 28. We’ll be delivering your food to you out in the parking lot until repairs can be completed in the hallway where the pipes leaked. The Clothing Bank will be open, and you can come inside to shop. Thanks to everyone for your patience and to the Methodist Church of Nehalem Bay and the Little Free Pantries for plugging the gap. And to the Nehalem Bay Health District (who owns the building) for their prompt response and dedication to keeping us operating.
We will also be able to accept donations of food and clothing. The Clothing Bank particularly needs men’s jeans and shoes as well as toys and stuffed animals for children.
Thank you to our wonderful community for always coming together to help our neighbors.

Hi BBQ community,
Now that the sun is back I want to offer Qigong classes up at the Nehalem Park on Hugo street. I took some time off from teaching due to the pandemic but I am now feeling it is time to offer it again. I have studied and practiced Qigong for many years and love to share it with others. It is a powerful healing practice to calm body and mind. regular practice helps keep the immune system strong , build vitality, reduce pain and bring balance to our digestive and respiratory systems. It also is very good for people that have PTSD symptoms. The movements are combined with deep breathing and are easy to learn. Calming benefits can be felt right from the beginning.
I teach a walking form that has 5 movements with breathing patterns that is the best to practice outdoors with a group. I also teach forms that help with arthritis, and women’s health. As a massage therapist for many years, I like to share my knowledge of acupressure points to assist in home healing too.
If you are interested please send me your name and contact info. I want to see if there is interest in the community for classes. I am thinking of offering a class Tuesday at 9 or 10. I would love some community feedback on my ideas.I am hoping to get the first classes started soon. Happy Summer everyone!

Hello BBQ! After our successful Neighborhood Watch event this is what we learned: If you are comfortable with it, buy some cameras and install them. Motion Lights are fabulous deterrents. If you see it, document it. Report it if you feel comfortable doing so. KEEP RECORDS (if you keep records, be prepared to be a witness in court) Did you know that our Sheriff’s get paid out of the “General Fund”? Did you know that our Sheriff had to go cook for the inmates when he left Wheeler? Did you know we are the LOWEST PAID Sheriff’s Department in the entire STATE????
I have learned that the next County Commissioner Meeting is about THE BUDGET – let’s talk about our fabulous Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office and why we are the lowest paid in the ENTIRE STATE. Auditions for Gramercy Ghost will take place at the Coaster Theatre in Cannon Beach Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 at 6:30pm both nights. You need only attend one night for consideration. Actors will read from sides provided at the auditions. The play will be directed by Deanna Duplechain and she encourages all ages and experience levels to come on out. If you want to be involved, but really do not wish to act, come and say hello and talk about your interests. We want to welcome everyone in!

Pipes leaked in our building, which is the old hospital building in Wheeler. While we are grateful that the places we store food are dry, the hallways and carpets are not. The basement that we operate out of cannot be used until cleanup is complete. We hope to re-open June 28. Please check this page or local social media and BBQ for updates.
Fortunately, food is available locally thanks to our friends at United Methodist Church of Nehalem Bay, located in Nehalem. Seniors can receive meals in both the Nehalem area and Rockaway. In addition, there are a couple of Little Free Pantries that have enough food for a meal or two. Please see Where Else Can I Get Food for details (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

Lee Hiltenbrand was named Manzanita’s Citizen of the Year at the June 8 meeting of the city council.

Announcing the honor, Mayor Mike Scott said Hiltenbrand “brought considerable professional technical background to the corps of volunteers who serve our city, its citizens, and the surrounding communities.”

Scott added, “Knowledge, humor, and commitment have been the hallmarks of that service.”

Hiltenbrand has participated on the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay, the Friends of the North Tillamook County Library board, the Short-Term Rental Oversight Work Group, and the Planning Commission, and the Public Works Augmentation Team.

Manzanita’s Citizen of the Year is selected annually by a committee of previous honorees.

Katherine McDowell – Abstract Seascapes

“These prints have been selected from my “Lake Monotype” series. Started in 2008, this series contains over 450 original, one-of-a-kind prints inspired by Lake Michigan. This work is a celebration of my love for the colors and textures of nature. They are made by layering various colored printing inks onto a plexiglass plate with rollers, brayers and paintbrushes, then running the plate through a hand-cranked press with the highest quality printmaking paper. The term “monotype” means that only one print can be made so each one is unique.”

“Where the Wonder Garden now is, the old Hoffman house used to sit. Studio space rented for $100 a month and for a time before its demolition, I had a small studio on the second floor. I come from a family of gleaners and artists so when there was a call to help clear out and take down the building, I showed up to see what might be salvaged. Between the floor and the subfloor, I discovered a vapor barrier made of large sections of movie posters and advertisements from the 40’s. Some were in remarkably good shape; all were large and in sections. The more I looked at them, the more I saw the stereotypes and unintended irony of the images for viewers now. The subtext intrigues me, and that’s true of all my work. These monotypes and monoprints are all inspired from these posters.”
