ERIN for NCRD

Submitted By: elaskey86@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi BBQ land!!

I’ve received quite a few emails over the weekend and I just want to say how thankful and honored I am to have your support!
A lot of people are wondering where my signs are and I’m happy to say they are coming! I was able to grab a few older campaign signs from a former local candidate and have been working on them all weekend!! Keep an eye out and let me know if you’d like a sign for your yard or business. I’m happy to drop it off and pick it up right after the 16th.

Thank you again to everyone who has reached out. And anyone who is curious to know more feel free to drop me a line! I’ll also have a meet and greet event very soon! More details to come!

Let’s Discuss Bees, Birds and the Bus.

Submitted By: leverettefortctd@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello. My name is Mary Leverette and I am an avid birder.
The birding year in Tillamook County is full of beautiful birds — some 450 species of birds have been sighted along our coastline — and we are fortunate to have great places to watch them! Some of my favorite winter visitors are Varied Thrushes and Chestnut-backed Chickadees. Both of these birds visit my feeder tray, starting usually in mid-October and stay until April.
I love chatting about birds and would love to share my knowledge with any bird enthusiasts or curious observers.
I am also a novice bee keeper.
In Spring 2022, I took a leap of faith and started keeping honey bees. This is something I have thought about doing for decades. I saw an advertisement on the outside bulletin board at the Tillamook Farm Store with a date for a ‘introduction to beekeeping’ group. I spent one Saturday morning at a class sponsored by the Tillamook Beekeepers Association (TBA) and came away hooked! Let’s learn together!
I am also a candidate for Tillamook County Transportation District in the upcoming election. I want to hear suggestions, concerns, wishes, anything you wish to offer. As an elected representative my job will be to carry your message and fulfill on the promise of the district that your tax dollars pay for. I am a firm believer in collaboration.
Like the bees, and the birds, and all of nature, we will come up with the most elegant solutions when we work together.
Please join me the Saturday, April 29th at 10am at the Roost in Wheeler. I’ll just be hanging out for an hour having some coffee and hoping you’ll stop by for a chat.
The Roost is at 92 Rorvik St. in Wheeler.

Contributing to peace and the celebration of life…River Community Meditation meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m.. As a matter of principle there is no cost, ever. We share silent meditation, what is important to us, and often read together from inspirational teachers. Our meeting facilitation is shared week to week. All faith traditions are welcomed to experience the wisdom and beauty of buddhist inspired practice and how that can further strengthen our lives and community. We meet every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary at St Catherine’s church near the Hope Chest between Manzanita and Nehalem.

Vote for Constance NCRD

Submitted By: gardencoachkaren@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Fellow North Tillamook County Citizens:

Please be sure and vote in this upcoming election. There are many people running for office and we need their leadership and support for our shared programs. NCRD is a valued public facility that helps us improve our health and quality of life.

I am voting for Constance Shimek as I have known her for over a decade and have been continuously impressed by her commitment to her community.

Constance is active in a number of community projects and programs. As the President of the Nehalem Bay Garden Club she works to provide funding to our community through club grants, brings people together to learn about plants, and to develop community and amaraderie. She always exhibits a desire to contribute her problem solving skills to the task at hand and finds ways to address the needs of the community. Her willingness to help in many projects and programs has created value for our three villages, as well as for Tillamook County.

Constance has my vote, as I know she is a person who has the community’s best interests in mind. She listens to input and makes decisions based on the input from her constituents.

I encourage my fellow citizens to vote for Constance for NCRD Board Representative.

Vote for strong leadership!

Vote for Strong Leadership

I am a retired nurse and clinical nursing specialist. Because I am concerned about our community’s health care, I have been attending the Nehalem Bay Health District (NBHD) Board meetings for the past 12 years. The changes that have occurred due to the hard work of the Nehalem Bay Health District Board under the leadership of Marc Johnson are awesome and inspiring.
The Health District has gone from being a land lord, managing rentals, to being a driving force advocating for better health care for our community. We recently lost two local skilled care facilities for seniors. I never thought I would see the day that the quality of care at the Nehalem Valley Care Center would improve. But it has! A needs assessment was performed, a new management company found, staff hired, and strong is oversight provided by the NBHD Board. I never thought anyone would have the foresight or be bold enough to try to renovate the Nehalem Valley Care Center, let alone help the Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy (formerly Rinehart Clinic and Pharmacy) get a new building. (Vote YES for local Health Care!) All of this extradorinaiy planning and foresight has occurred due to strong performance of the NBHD Board under the formidable leadership and drive of Marc Johnson. I strongly encourage you to vote for Marc Johnson for the NBHD Board in this upcoming election. His track record is outstanding and we could not do better.

Sand Spiral Labyrinth free community gathering for WORLD LABYRINTH DAY

Submitted By: centerpoint.healing.arts@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Dear BBQ Community –

Do you know difference between a labyrinth and a maze?

Mazes (like the autumn fun of a corn maze) are complex, branching, multicursal designs that aim to confuse and confound.

Labyrinths are unicursal designs with only one clear path to meander to the center and back again, that offer a contemplative practice to foster renewal and healing.

“A maze is designed to make you lose your way, while a labyrinth is designed to help you find your way” – L.Artress

The 15th Annual WORLD LABYRINTH DAY is coming soon, the first weekend in May.

Centerpoint Healing Arts is offering free community gatherings to walk a Sand Spiral Labyrinth and the first event for WORLD LABYRINTH DAY is happening:

Sunday May 7th
‘Sunrise’ at Neahkahnie Beach at the ‘Y’
7:30am ‘opening the gate’ Meditation
8am Labyrinth Walk or feel free to walk anytime before the tide sweeps it away.

Please Vote for Mary Leverette

Submitted By: herekittykitty1111@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Yesterday I found an article in the paper that showed some art that I had created. Today they are having an event at TBCC and the artists are invited. I really want to go.

This event is a 22 minute drive from my home. I don’t drive. For about $15 each way I could call Dial-A-Ride and they could take me. But, they don’t travel on the weekend. And, even if this was a weekday I would have had to make the reservation 48 hours in advance.

But, like I said, I really want to go. I live up Miami Foley. There is no bus that travels along Miami Foley. Luckily, my housemate is going to the same location as the event and I arranged to get a ride to TBCC with them. Unfortunately, they will be going five hours ahead of the event. I will take my Kindle and a book and wait in the lobby until the event begins at 2pm. I’ll use some time to write this letter.

My ride in will be leaving at 2pm just as the event is beginning, so I will have to find another way home. I can conveniently catch the bus just outside of TBCC about 15 minutes after the event ends at 4pm. That bus will take me a mile down the road to the bus station near the court house. I will then wait over an hour for a bus to take me north. It will pass the intersection of the 101 and Miami Foley by a couple of miles.

Another housemate will drive ten miles to pick me up in Garibaldi at 6:17pm and I should be home by 6:30. I left at 9am.

Nine and a half hours to attend a two hour event 22 minutes away from my front door. This is the reality of public transportation in Tillamook County. This keeps people isolated and doing only what must be done.

Determined board members can help create solutions that will allow people like me to simply decide to go to an event one day and go. With a regular bus on Miami Foley that intersects at the 101 in a timely manner I could have been to the event in an hour. I would still be taking 3 buses, but the entire outing would only take me 4 hours instead of 9 and a half. More importantly, I could do it on my own and not have to ask favors. Having to ask for help often keeps me home.

I feel deeply that Mary Leverette is the one candidate for Tillamook County Transportation District that has the determination, experience, and the time to develop solutions that will create access to any and all in need of public transportation throughout the county. It’s very important that board members have time to do more than just show up at meetings.

I selfishly urge you to vote for Mary Leverette for Tillamook County Transportation Board in the upcoming election. There are a lot of places I would like to go, and all of you can help get me there.

Sincerely,

Danielle Clark

A candidate for NCRD position #2, Erin Laskey-Wilson represents the spirit of our North County community and North County Recreation District. Erin grew up in this community, attended Nehalem Elementary School, and learned to swim in the pool at NCRD. After attending U of O, she returned to North County and is raising her three children, the family’s 4th generation in North County, in Nehalem. Erin believes, “It’s important for people who know the history and traditions of our area to serve on the Board.”
Erin is not new to positions of leadership. She served on the New Discovery Preschool Board for six years as a coordinator, fund raiser and enrollment recruiter. She’s active at the White Clover Grange where she helped organize a home-school program during Covid. She’s currently the Chairperson of the “Manzanita 4th of July Parade” Committee. THANK YOU, ERIN!
Erin and her husband are Fitness Center members and long time supporters of the New Pool Project. Their children attended, the youngest currently enrolled in, New Discovery Preschool at NCRD. Please join me in supporting Erin Laskey-Wilson for NCRD Board position #2. She knows our community; the values and traditions of our community are ingrained in her. She’s a proven leader in honoring and continuing what makes North County strong and vibrant.

Hope Montgomery and the Invasive Species are a local indie pop quartet comprised of Hope Montgomery (of course!), Charlie Wooldridge (lead guitar), Geoff Fielder (bass), and Levi Timm (drums). Sonic explorations into the depths of complex emotional turbulence are complimented by catchy melodic phrasing that you’ll want to get up and dance to.

Mojo Holler weaves threads from mountain ranges to the Mississippi Delta into a tapestry of indie folk rock, made up of Mister and Missi Baker. Mister Baker channels innate genius through lap steel, slide, and dobro. Missi is a genuine Appalachian ‘Mountain Mama’ whose vocals bring burning intensity to each song.

An ‘uh oh’ in the NCRD race??

Submitted By: andynorris21@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
Reading Candace’s BBQ post about her run for an NCRD position, it seems to me she violated election law. Offering arcade tokens for votes??
Here is one of the statutes that may apply:
260.665 Undue influence to affect registration, voting, candidacy, signing petitions; solicitation of money or other benefits
Since NCRD didn’t allow me to participate in any of their offerings because I didn’t put Pfizer’s or Mode RNA’s or Astrozenica’s or J and J’s new, experimental mRNA-technology into my body, I have zero interest in the NCRD election. I will never participate in an NCRD event again.
I also have zero interest in any of the local Health Center stuff. The Rinehart Clinic, which I had been going to on and off for years, would only see me in the parking lot, again because I didn’t shoot up said Big Tech junk. I said ‘no thanks’ and drove to Portland to see my naturopath. I will never go to the Rinehart Clinic (or it’s successor) again. I will drive to Portland and see my naturopath.
I understand that this NCRD race isn’t the U.S. Senate, and likely both candidates are more or less the same, and they are both likely very nice. But after watching Carl Rove steal the election for Bush/Cheney twice, and then watching Biden steal it last time around, my concerns are with election-integrity.
Anyway, someone should call Erin Laskey-Wilson and tell her she won. Unless there are additional candidates? Like I said I don’t really care.
Andy Norris
