NCRD Board meeting tonight 6pm

Submitted By: constanceforncrd@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
NCRD’s monthly board meeting is tonight, 6pm! Please join via zoom (link found at www.ncrd.org) or in person at NCRD. Given the magnitude of choices we will soon face, it is imperative we, as the voting community, be engaged and involved now more than ever. Here is what I am watching: the search for a permanent Executive Director for NCRD; the Special Districts election in May (3 seats available on the board); the bond measure for the Nehalem Bay Health District (www.nehalembayhd.org) in May; the NCRD Operations Tax Levy in late fall; the ongoing new pool project; the SWOT project; the PAC/stage accessibility Project. If you have any questions you’d like me to ask on your behalf, please forward to constanceforncrd@gmail.com, by 5pm.

These are my questions:
1. Has the search for a new Executive Director begun? If not, when will it begin? How long did it take to find our ED the last time?
2. Have the 2 final candidates, not chosen for the ED position, been contacted to interview or apply again? If so, what was their response? If not, why not?
3. The SWOT presentation/exercise was public, will the SWOT comprehensive report/recommendations from the SDAO be made public? If so, by when? Who will be implementing the recommendations?
4. It was implied last month there was a possible solution to address the lack of stage accessibility for those with mobility concerns in the PAC? What is the status? If this is not accurate, will a committee dedicated to this issue now be formed? By when?
5. There are 3 open seats on the board for the May election, Mary G. indicated early she will be running. Wally B & Jennifer H, please share your intentions of running, or not.
6. If there’s time, I’m curious. What policies has this board written in the last 10+ years?
Respectfully/Constance

Join Us for Writers Read Celebration Tomorrow Evening

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
If Ernest Hemingway arrived on the North Coast, what would he say and how would he say it?
Residents from Cape Meares, Nehalem and Wheeler will be among the writers who will ponder this question during the Writers Read Celebration on March 10 at the Cannon Beach Library.
Butch Freedman, of Cape Meares, will read his short story, “An Old Man Surfs”; Celeste Deveney, of Nehalem, will recite “A Dog’s Tale”; and Wheeler resident L Swartz will read their short story, “12-Step Famous,” during the celebration, which begins at 7 p.m. in the library, 131 N. Hemlock St.
It will be a hybrid event, with an online link available on the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org
Writers selected to read the works they submitted for the celebration have all sorts of ideas about what Hemingway would say if he visited the North Coast. He might: ask why he left Cuba; tell stories and knock back a bourbon at the Driftwood Inn; recount how a boy reeled in a seagull; discuss fishing with a youngster at the library; or describe how a 12-step program member took flight as a crow.
Most of the writers, who range from Longview, Washington to Cape Meares, Oregon, will read their short stories and poems in person at the library, while at least three will read online.
This is the fifth year for the Writers Read Celebration. Writers from everywhere were asked to submit entries in any form, including stories, essays, poems, haikus, etc. on a theme; entries were limited to 600 words, and writers could submit up to three pieces each. This year’s theme was “Hemingway at the Beach: What Would He Say?”
A six-member panel of volunteers chose 16 from among 47 submissions without knowing who wrote them. Selections were made based on how closely the pieces followed the theme, word usage, content and the emotions evoked.
In addition to Freedman, Deveney and Swartz, other writers who were invited to the Writers Read Celebration are:
Darrell Clukey, Cannon Beach, Oregon: short story, “The Passing Visitor”
Dian Greenwood, Portland, Oregon: short story, “On First Seeing”
Craig Allen Heath, Longview, Washington: short story, “Papa at Cannon Beach”
Marc Imlay, Longview, Washington: short story, “The Young Boy and the Seagull”
Eve Marx, Seaside, Oregon: short story, “Nothing’s Going to Happen”
Steven Mayer, Cannon Beach, Oregon: short story, “Hemingway at the Beach”
Russell Myers, Vancouver, Washington: short story, “The Library”
Jennifer Nightingale, Astoria, Oregon: poems, “Papa’s Bindlestiff” and “Eel Grass”
Steve Price, Portland, Oregon: short story, “Leaving Cuba”
Scott T. Starbuck, Vancouver, Washington: poem, “Salmon Prophet”
James A. Tweedie, Long Beach, Washington: short stories, “Castaway” and “Birthday at the Beach”

Yes For Local Health Care

Voters in north Tillamook County have a chance during the May election to create a new era for local health and senior services.

The Nehalem Bay Health District – primarily the communities of Nehalem, Wheeler, Manzanita and nearby rural areas – is proposing a $10.25 million bond measure that, if passed, will transform health care in those communities.

The bond will support construction of a state-of-the-art, expanded Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy, a facility large enough and modern enough to provide specialty and dental care, and serve more patients close to where they live.

The bond will also renovate and modernize the exiting Nehalem Valley Care Center, a 50-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Wheeler.

And … finance site preparation furthering the health district’s plans to eventually work with a developer to address health care and essential worker housing in north county.

In one project, the health district will address three critical Oregon coast issues – improved local health care, better options for our growing senior population and a strategy for workforce housing.

Pioneer CDJ-100S Repair/Service

Hello BBQland,

I am looking for someone who has retro-tech skills.

I have a pair of Pioneer CDJ-100S cd decks (used to be the thing for djing once upon time), and they both are doing the same thing. They turn on, but when I insert a cd, it doesn’t spin but instead immediately gets ejected.

Is there anyone out there who has the skills to troubleshoot this problem?

Thank you!

He fully comprehends but can’t respond via talking and his body doesn’t always do what he wants it to do! He uses a letter board that displays the alphabet and he spells out his words instead of saying them.

He requires a friend and ally who will presume competence and respect his intelligence while providing him with the direct support necessary for communication regulation, computer accessibility assistance for online high school courses, assist with swimming, assistance with fine motor and gross motor tasks necessary for daily living and facilitate participation in his community.

Requirements and Responsibilities:
* Have a love of nature and being outdoors.
* Enjoy swimming
* Be at least 18 years of age and have reliable transportation.

* Be legally eligible to work in the United States.
* Be free of convictions or founded allegations of abuse.
* Minimum of high school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
* Experience or sincere interest in working with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within a setting promoting community integration, normalization, and treatment of all persons with dignity and respect.
* To actively participate in developing and implementing plans to meet his unique needs.
* Document all activity relative to the daily activities.
In addition to competitive wages $24.00-$26.00/hr, paid training, a casual dress code, and fun environments, provider agency will provide excellent benefit package for full-time employees: medical/Rx, dental, and vision coverage; paid-time off; retirement savings plan with employer contribution.
*This is currently a part time position with a possibility of full time in the future.
Flexible 2-3 hour shifts. Must be available on most weekends and some weekday evenings.
