For now, we are canceling our Winter Illumination:Flow to Grow that had already been rescheduled due to the storm— we had an oversight and have Christy Kay at Rising Hearts Studio hosting her Open Art Studio at the same time, January 21st 4-6 and is offering Vision Board! We hope you can make it there and we’ll find another time to offer this paired with a cacao ceremony, lymphatic pumping/stretching and a comfy community ecstatic dance event soon (probably our second Sunday morning in February).

EVCNB COOKING CONTEST
Join us for a “Cooking Emergency Food Contest.”

Local contestants will prepare and entree and a dessert (only 20 minutes for each!) using NO water and NO heat. Local restaurateurs will judge the dishes and crown a TOP CHEF.

You’ll want to take notes so you can be ready to make and eat delicious, satisfying food the next time the power goes out. We’re asking for a $5 cover charge and pre-registration so we can have enough soft drinks, wine, and snacks available.

Whether it’s about the history of seal hunting in the Bering Sea or the biography of a woman who accidentally triggered a gold rush in the Klondike, author Deb Vanasse’s stories explore Alaska as much as they document the people she writes about.
Vanasse will be the guest author at the Cannon Beach Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. The free event will be hybrid; her presentation will be presented in person and online, via the library’s website, www.cannonbeachlibrary.org.
The Warrenton, Oregon author spent 36 years in Alaska, where she co-founded 49 Writers, a statewide writing center offering creative writing workshops. Vanasse has written 25 books in various genres, including nonfiction, historical fiction and children’s books; most are focused on Alaska.
Her 2022 release, Roar of the Sea, was an Oregon State Book award finalist. It tells the story of the unlikely hero who fought pirates and national governments to save Alaskan fur seals from extinction.
In 2016, Vanasse published Wealth Woman, about Kate Carmack, a Tagish woman who was a key figure in the discovery that set off the Klondike gold rush.
Vanasse enjoys seeking out hidden histories, and she likes to keep readers turning pages with characters who aren’t easily forgotten.
When she isn’t buying books, drinking tea or walking her boxer dog at the beach, Vanasse also does freelance editorial work, helping authors pull together plots, develop characters, and fine-tune their voice and pacing.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Vanasse’s presentation is coordinated by the Cannon Beach Library’s NW Authors Series Committee, which sponsors authors monthly from September through May. The committee also sponsors the Writers Read Celebration, where residents and visitors read works based on a local theme. This year, the celebration will be on March 22; the theme is “Beach Noir.”

Hello BBQ Community,

Everyone is welcome to join us for an afternoon to create a Vision Board.

If you are interested, between now and then, imagine your best possible life.

What images comes to mind?

Set an intention with that vision in mind and put your attention on your intention.

Start looking through magazines, greeting cards and calendars and clip images that appeal to you.
Don’t overthink it. Let your intuition guide you.

Kathie Hightower will talk about the magic that can happen with Vision Boards. I’ll offer a short meditation and you’ll be given the chance to journal or mind map your intentions.

Supplies to bring on the 29th:
Images that fit your intentions
Poster Board or Foam Board (Dollar Stores carry a variety of colors)
Glue Sticks
Scissors
A journal, or notebook, and pen.

Creating Vision Boards is a Pine Grove Community House sponsored program. This allows us to keep admission low. Admission $5-10.

You can find a lot of info about Vision Boards on the internet. Here’s a simple explanation:

Vision boards are a collection of images or objects arranged in a way to assist you in manifesting your best possible life.
Vision boards are highly versatile. You can use them to manifest your personal goals or create a visual representation of a personal vision statement. They’re perfect for helping you envision your dream life.
You can use a vision board for long term goals, like achieving your 5-year plan. Or you can create a yearly vision board, too.
People who use vision boards usually place them where they’ll see them often. You can place a vision board on a mirror you use to get ready in the morning. Other people will prefer to hang it on a wall in a room they use often.

Happy New Year!

On January 11th, 2024 (TONIGHT!) the Nehalem Bay Watershed Council will be hosting their Annual Meeting and the Year in Review.

The NBWC’s Annual Meeting will start at 5 pm. The Annual Meeting consists of board elections, selection of board officers, and the Annual Report. All members are welcome to attend to vote in board elections.

The Annual Report will be a summary of council activities in 2023 including progress reports on restoration designs, planting projects, and regional collaborations. There will also be announcements about upcoming events including the 2024 Nehalem Estuary Cleanup! It’s been a busy year for the council so we hope you’ll come early to learn about what we’ve been up to.
Both the Annual Meeting and Year in Review will be hosted at the NCRD in Nehalem. They will both also be accessible via Zoom and are free to the public. The zoom link is us02web.zoom.us/j/82636432692 or on the Faceboook event at www.facebook.com/nehalembaywc. You can also contact the watershed council at info@nehalemwatershed.org.

Come join us for Lee Rocks Painting Party Sunday January 14th from 4-6 at NCRD kitchen.
We will gather to honor Lee and paint rocks with his name on one side and a small symbol of a heart, paw print or something similar on the other side.
When you do something that Lee would have done such as filling up the pet watering station or helping someone in need leave a Lee Rocks there.
If you find one you can pick it up and pass it on leaving it where you do the same.
We will have rocks and supplies available but feel free to bring rocks that are special to you to paint and if you have paint you would like to use feel free to bring that as well.
A huge thank you to NCRD for donating the use of their kitchen for this event, Lori Dillon for donating painting supplies and support, Ginger at North Fork for 53 for donating tea and this amazing community.
There will be tea and snacks. Feel free to bring a snack to share but not required.
We would like to have Lee Rocks available at various locations with signage and have future Lee rocks parties to keep the ripple effect that Lee made on this planet going strong.

It’s time for the annual White Clover Grange pie auction and fundraiser to support and maintain our community venue. Doors open at 2:30 or so, festivities commence at 3:00 sharp, with ample parking for all.

Many folks in our tri village area (and beyond) have attended various events in our building, and now is YOUR opportunity to give back to our historical landmark…

There will be many pies made by some of our favorite local businesses (yum!), and also a large number of sweet and savory pies created and baked by our world renowned local bakers. Yours truly will be “pie eyeing” a gorgeous cheesecake adorned with a scrumptious Marion berry topping-
DOUBLE YUM!!!

Also, at the conclusion of the festivities, 29 “Feast Pies” will be served to all attendees with a dollop of fresh Tillamook Ice Cream, as a hearty Thank You for being with us at our gala event!! What fun!!

Auditions for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice

Director Edward James is looking for three male actors and three female actors ages 20-70 for the second show of Ten Fifteen’s 2024 season.

Bring your calendars and a list of all conflicts between February 11th and April 13th. Headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required.

Performances will run for three weekends between March 29th and April 13th, 2024.

If you wish to audition, but are unable to make the scheduled dates, please email the director at ejames1@charter.net to make an appointment.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Actors auditioning for the role of LV should be prepared to sing short impressions of two or more of these singers: Patsy Cline, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli, Barbara Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Gracie Fields, Dusty Springfield, Lulu. These may be performed A Capella or accompanied by music from smartphone.

The Cast:
LV (Little Voice): reclusive young woman who has a gift for vocal impressions
Mari: her man-hungry, overbearing mother
Sadie: Mari’s somewhat slow, admiring neighbor
Ray Say: ambitious talent promoter, ladies man
Boo: comic club owner (doubles as main phone installer)
Billy: shy phone installer, crushing on LV

About the Show: Little Voice is a sometimes grim, often hilarious fairy tale set in an English town in the eighties. It’s the story of a soft-spoken young woman who, after her father’s death, spends most of her time in her room listening to his collection of old records of famous female singers. Sometimes, she sings along. One night, dear lascivious mum drags home Ray Say, a talent promoter. He overhears LV singing faultless imitations of divas upstairs and sees a meal ticket. After considerable struggle, he manages to lure LV to a nightclub where shy LV sings, but only when the lights are out. More struggle and more singing ensue. Subplots play out. And in the end, LV finds her own glorious voice.

Contemplative Dance Practice is a meditator’s dance hall or a dancers’ meditation hall, this practice provides opportunities to develop awareness of inner and outer rhythms, deepen mindfulness disciplines, and provide a container for cultivating acceptance of what is arising in the body.

The fusion of Ecstatic Dance and Contemplative Dance Practice creates a space to hold each one of us as we are. It is rigorous because awareness is moving between our inner and outer noticing and we are tracking the nowness of it all…Who knows what will happen?

Nehalem Senior Lunches, a partner in Nehalem Bay Community Services, is planning a benefit FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST.

This Saturday, January 13th, at the Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church.

Breakfast is served from 9 til noon in the Fellowship Hall.

The normal suspects on your plate will be eggs, sausage, French Toast with all the Berry Compote you can imagine. OJ and coffee, too.

The suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Proceeds will help feed the shut ins that get regular meals and others who are able to stop in on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lunch. Those lunches are served for $5 each but no one is turned away.

Come get a great breakfast and help support folks in our community who may not be getting good regular meals.
