Hello Conscious Aging and Community Connections Friends,

The goal of the Conscious Aging and Community Connections Program is to bring people in our community together to get to know one another at a deeper level and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives.

We’ll meet Monday, Jan. 8th, 2-4pm at Pine Grove. Door opens at 1:45.

Our topic this month is Creating a Compassionate Community. Everyone is welcome! $ 5 Admission

Between now and then, please consider the needs our community has and ways to make it a more compassionate one. We’d like to hear about needs that affect you personally and your suggestions for how we can fulfill those needs.

Those interested will meet at Pine Grove Monday, January 29, 1-5pm to create Vision Boards. Start collecting images from magazines, cards and calendars for your Vision Board. You will also want to bring a foam board or poster board, plus scissors and a glue-stick. If you are interested but haven’t yet signed up, please let me know.
February 12th, our topic for our monthly meeting will be Sharing Resources. We will send out an agenda for the meeting before then.

TWO free workshops at NCRD. From 2-4PM
First workshop is about how to make a gratitude jar.
Second workshop is about how to save throughout the year in small ways that have a big impact.
Decorations and materials are supplied for free.

14th Annual North County Pie Day Auction and Feast
Saturday, Jan. 27st at
White Clover Grange 3 PM

It’s the 14th Annual North County Pie Day! This annual and fun event takes place on Saturday January 27 at the White Clover Grange in Nehalem (36585 Highway 53) and is a fundraiser for the Grange building fund.
Fifteen dollars ($5 for children 10 and under) opens the door to a fast paced pie auction with the funny and entertaining Susan Tone returning for her 6th year as auctioneer. The auction features two dozen creative, delicious, and impressive pies from local bakers, chefs, and restaurants. And after the auction, there will be a pie and ice cream feast–fruit pies, custard pies, savory pies, vegan pies, gluten-free pies, and various pies-but-not-pies – all of them will be at this event! In addition, the incredible Liz Cole will kick off the festivities with her traditional and always compelling performance of “Ode to Pie.” (See her 2020 rendition at

Join your community on Saturday, January 27st! Doors open at 2:30 pm and the auction starts at 3. Continue the ongoing work of maintaining our 103 year old building as a functional community resource.

Come join us for Lee Rocks Painting Party Sunday January 14th from 4-6 at NCRD kitchen.
We will gather to honor Lee and paint rocks with his name on one side and a small symbol of a heart, paw print or something similar on the other side.
When you do something that Lee would have done such as filling up the pet watering station or helping someone in need leave a Lee Rocks there.
If you find one you can pick it up and pass it on leaving it where you do the same.
We will have rocks and supplies available but feel free to bring rocks that are special to you to paint and if you have paint you would like to use feel free to bring that as well.
We would like to have Lee Rocks available at various locations with signage and have future Lee rocks parties to keep the ripple effect that Lee made on this planet going strong.

Ten Fifteen to kickoff 2024 with a trip down memory lane.

Shooting Star explores the woulda-coulda-shouldas that come with examining one’s past relationships. This tender-hearted story of past love is perfect for fans of both traditional and nontraditional romance… just in time for Valentine’s Day! This production marks the first of the community theater’s new season and will play for three weekends in their Downtown Astoria space.

About the Show: Snowed in overnight at a middle-America airport, college lovers Elena Carson and Reed McAllister have an unexpected and life-altering reunion. Elena has stayed true to her hippie-ish, counter-culture path, while Reed has gone predictably corporate and conservative. As the night gives way to laughter, banter, remembrance and alcohol, Elena and Reed revisit a past that holds more surprises than they imagined—and a present that neither of them could have predicted. Filled with laughter and ache, Shooting Star is a bittersweet romantic comedy about the middle days of our lives, and how we got there.

“It was a dark and stormy night….”
That may be one way to begin a story, but writers will undoubtedly find many other ways to start their submissions to the Cannon Beach Library’s Writers Read Celebration, with the theme, “Beach Noir.”
In its sixth year, Writers Read offers writers of all ages from everywhere the opportunity to write on a specific theme. All written formats will be considered (essay, story, poetry, haiku, script, etc.). The deadline for submissions is Feb. 2.
Noir fiction often takes place in a dark or foreboding setting, though the tone and descriptions can be unconventional and playful. Other elements may include flashes of humor, flawed underdog characters or a crime scene.
A panel of volunteers will select 10 to 12 works to be read by their authors during the celebration on March 22 in person at the library or via Zoom.
Authors are limited to three entries with a 600-word maximum per entry.
Submissions should be in Word format. Include a separate cover letter with the writer’s name, email and phone number. Please do not include the author’s name or contact information on the entry document so authors remain anonymous to the reading panel.

The NW Authors Series Committee sponsors monthly author presentations and other events at the Cannon Beach Library. Hi, neighbors!

I teach a financial wellness course I created on money mindset called the Mindful Money Method to women all over the country from my home in Nehalem.

It’s a calling of mine to support women in reducing financial overwhelm and increasing overall confidence while setting them up for a future they’ll love.

Many are feeling stretched due to rising costs or have turned to overspending for comfort or distraction these past few years. I’m focused on helping women with a loving, kind and effective approach; it’s like yoga for your money.

I’ve tested it on myself (curbed impulsive spending, achieved financial independence before 50 & left my 9-5) and now have five groups of successful graduates (in addition to all of my 1:1 clients) who’ve changed their financial trajectory and will eventually change their legacy.

Yet, more importantly, they have built a healthy relationship with money and themselves. And the mindset work translates to other areas of their lives like health and relationships.

The small group class meets LIVE with me for nine Wednesdays at 1 PM PT on Zoom in addition to following the online course curriculum. The result is calm confidence in any financial decision thru awareness, clarity and vision for your financial future. I believe your best financial plan is the one you create and I will show you how.

This course is best suited for women that feel like they weren’t taught about money. We identify values & desires, create financial safety nets & debt payoff plans, determine our financial independence number, and so much more.
