Cannon Beach Library Hosts Poet, Artist, Author Jessica Mehta

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Poet, artist and author Jessica Mehta will discuss her writings and read her poetry at the Cannon Beach Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13.
This is a free, hybrid event; attend the event at the library or watch online: www.cannonbeachlibrary.org.
The award-winning interdisciplinary poet, artist and author is hosted by the library’s NW Authors Series.
The Oregon author of 15 books, Mehta will discuss “Decolonization on a Global Scale.” Her works have been described as organic, powerful and vulnerable. Space, place and ancestry are driving factors in her work.
Mehta has undertaken poetry and artist residencies around the globe, including the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-Upon-Avon and the Crazy Horse Memorial and museum in South Dakota. Her work has been featured at galleries and exhibitions in Washington DC, Sweden and New Mexico. She also was a Fulbright Senior Scholar.
“My goal as a person and an artist is to inform, create conversations and in many cases to educate—particularly non-indigenous audiences,” says Mehta, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. “The key word here is ‘goal,’ not ‘responsibility.’”
“The emotional, mental, spiritual and oftentimes physical labor of educating non-indigenous audiences is not for everyone. It is a gift some of us offer when, where and how we can. It is not a requirement of any Native person.”

Why Online Forums for MooVoter?

Submitted By: moovoter@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello.

We hope this message finds you well.

We sent an email inviting candidates to some online forums and have not heard back from some of them. The dates for the forums are fast approaching and we want to be sure they have every opportunity to attend if they so choose.

Some candidates have asked why these events are online and we wanted to give an answer should that detail be a major part of the decision to participate.

Having online forums is really about access. The online option provides greater access to more people.

Online forums make the event easy to attend for candidates AND voters alike. In addition, we will record the sessions and post them to a candidate’s MooVoter thread and on the Pioneer.

We will also share them across social media to a collective audience of 50,000 local Facebook community group members in every corner of the county. Once the links are publicly available they can continue to be shared by any individual or entity.

Viewers also have the ability to view the session at their convenience in whole or in parts. They can also forward over portions that they aren’t interested in, or repeat sections that they want to hear again.

The MooVoter mission is to engage and empower voters, so voters can vote with confidence, and share their knowledge with others. The online forum is the superior solution toward the ultimate goal of increasing voter turnout. A live event will reach perhaps 50 voters at best. An online forum will reach ten times that at a minimum. Most likely, more.

All things being equal, the choice for MooVoter and the Pioneer to do the forums online will continue.

Details and RSVP to each event are listed on our FB page www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091843375086 or on facebook.com/groups/moovoter

We hope to see you online.

Thanks!

Do you want to know the location of the Mother’s Day weekend plant sale?
Just follow North Fork Rd from the blinking light for about 5 miles to the end where it joins Hwy 53. The sale is on the left where there are horse statues in the front yard and real horses in the back yard! The address for you mappers is 43080 Northfork Rd, Nehalem.
Besides lots of plants of many varieties, Mother’s Day gifts and a raffle, there are some special attractions on Saturday, May 13, from 10am-3pm. (We priced over 1000 plants today and still have more to do!)
The Sharpenator will be available to hone your tools that need a new edge at reasonable prices.
Also only on Saturday, bring your children and they can create wee gardens while you shop. Children are invited to plant tiny gardens as commitments to Planet Earth — and possibly Mothers’ Day gifts. All materials provided.
