A COMMUNITY TREASURE

A COMMUNITY TREASURE

When we moved to North County 25 years ago, one of our first connections to the community was North County Recreation District. We’ve watched our recreation center develop and flourish into a hub of activity, a community treasure. From the Youth Center, to exercise classes in the Fitness Center and Aquatics, to the “Learn to Swim” program, to senior activities, to productions in the Performing Arts Center, NCRD offers something for everyone who lives in and visits North Tillamook County.

Every five years we, as a community, get to renew our support for NCRD, by voting “YES for NCRD” on the November ballot. Amazingly, the tax rate has not increased in 15 years, since the first tax levy in 2008! We home owners will not be paying anything more; we will simply be saying “YES” to a continuation of the programs offered by and the operational costs of North County Recreation District.

Please join us in voting “YES for NCRD.”

Author to Recount Adventures as Oregon Coast Dory Fisherman

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
In his memoir, Fifteen Seasons, author Terry Evers dedicates the book to his father, “who took an enormous leap of faith that swept us away from the ordinary and opened the floodgates to the unimaginable.”

And so the adventure begins, when Bruce Evers, a textbook salesman in Salem, Oregon, buys a commercial dory boat and takes his 13-year-old son, Terry, out on the Pacific Ocean for a summer salmon fishing season. It’s the first of 15 seasons, when they learn that it takes more than a boat and fishing gear to become successful fishermen.

Terry Evers will recall those memories when he speaks at the Cannon Beach Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. The visit is sponsored by the library’s NW Authors Series Committee.

This is a free, hybrid event; attend in person at the library or watch online via the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org.

When his dad invited Terry to fish with him the summer prior to Terry’s high school freshman year in 1977, the boy jumped at the chance.
“Little did I know that it would open the door to otherworldly adventures and forge a unique relationship with my father that would run deeper than I ever imagined,” Evers writes.

That initial trip launched them into experiences involving harrowing Pacific Coast storms, battles with giant king salmon and challenging fish runs that kept them either constantly working when the catch was great or bored when the catch dwindled.

Throughout their 15 dory seasons on the central Oregon coast, they met a variety of fishermen and developed a love of the fishing culture from 1977 to 1992.
Fifteen Seasons was featured in several newspapers, publications, and podcasts. Stories about the book appeared National Fisherman Magazine, Pacific Fishing Magazine, the Outdoor GPS television show, Oregon Coast Magazine, and the Partners of Commercial Fishermen podcast.

Evers has spent the past 33 years in education; he is a STEM teacher (science, technology, engineering, math) for elementary students.

With his dory long gone, Evers now explores Oregon and Washington rivers, lakes and bays in his Pygmy kayak.
He and his wife, D’Ann, live in Keizer, Oregon. They have two grown daughters and two granddaughters.

Community, I know you’re good people thinking you’re doing a good thing for Community with a ‘yes’ vote.

AND, If ALL Community meant ALL IN THE COMMUNITY, I’d be right there beside you. However, I’m going to assert if any of you had joined me at even one Board meeting since 2019 and heard and seen what I’ve heard and seen, you may also not want your tax dollars supporting the NCRD, as it’s been run right now.

You would have witnessed over and over and over again the Boards & ED’s dismissiveness of Community questions/concerns, (‘argument: you can’t please everyone’); the disinterest for our teens/tweens and their recreation after demolishing the Skateramp (justification: ‘they should be grateful, we’re building them a nine million dollar pool)’; the discrimination of the mobility challenged with no stage access in the PAC (context: ‘ I have a disability, you don’t see me asking for special favors”); the ignorance/discrimination of not recognizing there is no street access to the ADA pickle-ball courts (Ignorance: ‘do people in wheelchairs play pickle-ball’).

I would have been ok if Committees had been formed to address any of the above issues (instead Justification: 73% of the voters passed the levy last time’).

Unfortunately, most of you didn’t hear it as you weren’t ‘in the room when it happened’, I WAS and I can’t unhear.

Trust me, it was a whole lot more comfortable being in denial and ignorant … however, I’m for the NCRD being the best it can be for ALL.

Conscious Aging and Community Connections, Nov. 13, 2 to 4pm at Pine Grove Community House

Submitted By: telaskinner@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello Friends,
Our next gathering will be Monday, Nov. 13th, 2-4pm, $5 Admission

We’ll hold a discussion about one of the most popular topics selected by the group who attended in October: A Conversation About Finding Our Passions and Living our Best Possible Lives.

We’ll offer a few questions to ponder:
How can you redefine playfulness as you age?
What brings you feelings of contentment? Peace? Happiness? What lights you up? What fulfills you?
When do you most feel a sense of well being?
What in your life helps you feel a sense of wonder, or most alive?
Do you have daily, weekly or annual rituals, habits or practices that improve the quality of your life?
Recall memories of things you loved doing as a kid. How did those activities make you feel? How can we recreate those same feelings at this time in our lives?

Please bring paper and pen for a brief writing exercise.

Topics for Future Sessions:

December 11 — Traversing the Edge Between Doing and Being and Finding Meaning and Happiness Despite Physical Limitations
We will offer questions for this conversation before the December program.

January 8 — Creating a Compassionate Community

The Conscious Aging and Community Connections Program is sponsored by Pine Grove Community House so we can keep admission at $5.
All money received goes to Pine Grove.

Hope to see you November 13th!

If you have questions about the program please respond to this posting.

Thank you, Tela and the Conscious Aging & Community Connections Team

Hope Montgomery & The Invasive Species and Katelyn Convery

The Bay City Arts Center is thrilled to announce a special evening of live music on Saturday, November 4th, at 7:00 PM. This event will celebrate the release of Hope Montgomery’s new album, “Lose Your Cool,” and features an opening performance by Katelyn Convery.

Hope Montgomery & The Invasive Species, a local indie pop quartet, will take the stage, led by the mesmerizing Hope Montgomery herself, with Charlie Wooldridge on lead guitar, Geoff Fielder on bass, and Levi Timm on drums. Their music delves into sonic explorations of complex emotional turbulence, complimented by catchy melodic phrasing that you’ll want to get up and dance to.

Katelyn Convery’s latest album Miles Awake boasts polished lyrics and sophisticated soundscapes, backed by a group of distinguished musicians and co-produced with bandmate and collaborator Timothy Karplus. Bittersweet angst and optimism weave through Katelyn Convery’s music, piercing the frontier of modern alt-rock, and harkening back to the edgy era of 90s NW grunge, with textures characteristic of early 2000s indie-pop. Born and raised in Oregon, Katelyn now splits time between Portland and the Oregon Coast.

Thanks Dixie for your Oct. 30th BBQ post!!!!!!

Finally, the possibility of justice for the billionaire medical tyrants that have injured and murdered so many with their new, experimental mRNA-tech that nobody needed for their lab-engineered coronavirus that was basically the flu!!

THANK YOU!

I hope folks sign-up in droves to sue these tech billionaire rip-off vultures and their banker and intelligentsia accomplices!

As for the monkey dna and the rest of it, idk.

I do know that Fact Checkers and Snopes are partially funded by vax-mass-murderer Bill Gates.

I also know that the makers of the hip “J and J” vax got slammed with a billion-dollar lawsuit for putting asbestos in baby powder. (Happened at the mining level).

www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/johnsonandjohnson-cancer/

So glass shards, monkey DNA, asbestos, etc. why the hell not?

Big Farma sucks. Corrupt through and through.

This stuff is worth investigating, but not by using Gates’ funded Snopes and Fact Checker.

Again, THANKS FOR THE POST DIXIE!!!!

Unfortunately I’m not that hopeful that Oregonians (mostly the Dems) overall will wake up to this giant, sadistic money-making virus/vax Operation Lockstep scam, nope, not hopeful at all:

Community, Classes and NCRD are good for all of us

POSTED IN BEHALF OF PATTY RINEHART

Hello to North County Voters,
I would like to ask you to vote YES for the North County Recreation District’s Levy coming up on November 7.

As memory serves me, I first started going to the building which houses NCRD when I was in the 5th grade. It was there I met a woman who became one of my lifetime friends. But we’re not here for my history.

What a building this was then and is now too. The building houses a variety of people and projects. Ages I’m going to have to guess, maybe 4-80 years old. And what are all those people doing there? The preschool would be the youngest, then there are the after-school kids, the people who use the fitness center, and the blend of all the people who take classes. So, I’m pretty sure people using NCRD age from 4-80 plus years old. It is a wonderful building that not only goes on for all those years, but also serves so many people.

So many communities would love to have such a building and programs to serve so many people. I must tell you about my special passion for NCRD and their programs are the kids. I don’t want any child to go home to an empty home–which is what their after-school program serves. And it is first come, first serve. Doesn’t matter if you have the full payment or not, you can get a scholarship for this program. Sports programs are also offered to these kids. Right now, it is soccer.

Adults can take classes; I’ve watched the art classes–it’s wonderful. Working out in classes or in the weight room, or the cardio room has helped so many in our community. My mind wants to say, community, classes, and NCRD are good for all of us.

Best,
Patty Rinehart

VERY RARE SHAMAN MADE MASTODON IVORY PENDANTS

Submitted By: tim4surf@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
I purchased these magical Mastodon Ivory pendants over 40 years ago. They were made by a remarkable old Alaskan medicine man who learned the craft of macrame. Both are beautifully hand carved. The heart shaped (with bark like surface on one side) piece has Garnet, Carnelian, Jade and Jasper beads woven in. The mystical mask contains Citrine Quartz, Jade and Lapis Lazuli beads throughout. The macrame work is just astounding, made of very sturdy high grade cordage. The Mastodon Ivory is of a quality not seen today. These are more like jewelry than craft with the precious healing stones and ancient Ivory carvings. Both pieces are 18″ in circumference and signed. Notice the the small holes that were drilled to affix the cordage. You will not see pieces like this anywhere.
