Entering this 2024 election season, have you wanted to get more involved, but were not sure how? Becoming a Democratic Precinct Committeeperson (PCP) might be the path for you. PCPs provide the connection between the county party and the registered voters in their precinct. This 2024 election is going to be more crucial for Democracy than the 2016 and 2020 elections. If you have been registered as a Democratic voter at your current address for the 180 days, you may be eligible. We want your voice and support.

March is a busy one for us. We’re planning a few special dinners:

March 7th: another Nehalem River Social Event involving our entire building as well as many local businesses. Danny’s doing tacos…not just any tacos though…we’ve procured some special masa (red, blue, yellow & white) and are making our own tortillas for this event. He’s planning on making 3 kinds of tacos – al pastor, Santa Fe Chicken and crispy tofu. Served w/black beans, cilantro rice w/homemade salsas. Dessert will be Tres Leche Cake w/dulce de leche caramel frosting. More details later…

March 17th: I got the last 30#’s beef brisket from Lance & Tammy so plan on curing my own corned beef for this special. Served w/cabbage, carrots & potatoes w/horseradish crema, grain mustard, Irish soda bread w/Irish Whiskey butter and Chocolate-Baileys Pot de Creme for dessert. This is a pick up and reheat situation, pre-order necessary as we won’t be open that day for regular business. More details on that later as well…

Last Night’s City of Manzanita Virtual Town Hall, February 27 2024: video of the event with Manzanita Mayor Kathryn Stock, all Manzanita City Council: Brad Hart, Linda Kozlowski, Jerry Spegman and Tom Campbell. City Manager Leila Aman and a bevy of architects/contractors/specialists describe and clarify all the ins and outs of the process.
There was a great overview from way back when, to where we are now (almost) construction!
It’s clear there has been a massive amount of work from many, many people, past and present to get us to this point. This includes all of us as participants over the years in helping narrow down what we want and can afford.

New Administration, Nursing Director Join Care Center Team

New Administrator, Director of Nursing Join Team at Nehalem Valley Care Center

(Wheeler) – Bryan Boon, an Oregon Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, was recently named the new Administrator at the Nehalem Valley Care Center in Wheeler, Oregon. Boon has nursing home and hospital experience having previously worked in a variety of health care roles, including rehabilitation services, as a surgical aide and Certified Nursing Assistant at facilities in the Northwest and in Arizona.

Boon is now a full-time resident of north Tillamook County.

Jessica Case, RN/BSN has also joined the Care Center staff as the facility’s Director of Nursing Services. Case has extensive healthcare experience in both hospital and nursing facility settings and is passionate about providing excellent patient care and developing Best Practices.

Case is also now a full-time resident of north Tillamook County.

The Nehalem Valley Care Center, owned by the Nehalem Bay Health District, is our region’s only skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, in fact the only facility of its kind between Astoria and Newport on the Oregon coast.

The facility provides 24-hour Skilled/Long Term Care nursing care for residents and offers physical/Occupational/Speech therapy services as well and is licensed by the state of Oregon. The Care Center is one of Tillamook County’s largest employers with staff that includes Registered Nurses (RN’s), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s), food service, maintenance, administrative and business office personnel.

The Care Center is managed for the Health District through an agreement with Canyon Wren Consulting LLC, an Oregon nursing home management firm.

March-April Art Show at Manzanita Library

The March-April display of Art at the North Tillamook County Library in Manzanita will feature the work of student-teacher pair Tim Miller (age 64) and Julien Anctil (age 11). Tim and Julien, who live across the street from one another in Wheeler, have been working together in Tim’s studio for several hours a week for about a year and a half. Their beautiful work reflects their shared appreciation for nature and natural history. Tim will be showing five paintings exploring color, line, and abstraction. Julien will be showing two paintings and two drawings exploring color and drawing skills.

In this area. The gutters will be going on new construction. Two straight 50’ runs for each side of the house. Then one 16’ run for back porch. 3 downspouts. All about 9’ reach up to facia boards for ladder consideration.

Trio Deloria (Andrew Ehrlich, Yankl Falk, and Ethan Chessin) presents an exciting program of Klezmer and Yiddish song, Romanian and Hungarian fiddle virtuosity, devotional Hasidic melody, and much more. Although the trio’s name is new, they have been performing together for over 20 years under other names (including a previous visit to Astoria in 2014). Their deep friendship is reflected in their energetic musical collaborations. Trio Deloria is grateful to the Larsen Center for this opportunity to return to Astoria with an exciting new program.

For more than 40 years, Jack “Yankl” Falk (vocals/clarinet) has been at the center of Yiddish cultural life in Portland and beyond. His repertoire and performance reflects his long involvement with Hungary’s premier Yiddish ensemble, Di Naye Kapelye, with whom he recorded three acclaimed CDs of Carpathian Jewish roots music and performed at festivals across Europe.

Yankl leads the Portland-based klezmer/groove quintet The Carpathian-Pacific Express, which features some of Portland’s leading musicians. His other collaborations have included work with Don Byron’s Music of Mickey Katz, Polka Madre (Mexico City), Di Fidl- Kapelye (Amsterdam), Yale Strom, the Tone Sharks, accordionist Christina Crowder, and cellist Lori Goldston. For more than 30 years, Yankl produced and hosted the Sunday morning Yiddish Hour on Portland radio. A traditional singer of Jewish liturgy, Yankl was featured in a 2013 New York Times article about itinerant High Holiday cantors.

Andrew Ehrlich (violin) is a longtime klezmer and co-founder of his own band, Hora Tzigane, with Martin Morgenbesser. He also performs as a member of the Carpathian- Pacific Express and is the leader of Dr. Ehrlich and the Magic Bullets. Andrew has served as concertmaster of the Portland Chamber Orchestra and the Portland Columbia Symphony. He is a former member of the group “fEAR no MUSIC” and continues to play chamber music in recital. Andrew recently premiered the violin concerto “Prayers and Dances” by Jason Heald based on Jewish themes. He is on the faculty of the Community Music Center in Portland, where he teaches violin and conducts the Adult String Orchestra.

Ethan Chessin (trombone/piano/accordion/voice) teaches choir, songwriting, and music production at Camas High School. Over the last twelve years, his students have premiered over one hundred new pieces of music, written by students and alumni as well as nationally renowned musicians. His expertise in producing major collaborative premieres have earned invitations for his choirs to record and perform alongside Portugal. The Man, Stanley Jordan, Y La Bamba, Girls In Trouble, AU, Michael Allen Harrison, Bright Moments, Kingdom Sound, Trio Tsuica, Carpathian-Pacific Express, and many others. Ethan is a 2023 Country Music Association (CMA) Music Teacher of Excellence, was awarded the first Give A Note Foundation nationwide Music Educator Innovator Award, and has been recognized regionally as a Washington Teacher of the Year Finalist, Southwest Washington Teacher of the Year, and Camas High School Teacher of the Year. Prior to his teaching career, while playing trombone with the MarchFourth Marching Band he performed alongside Pink Martini, opened for Gwen Stefani, and was featured on the soundtrack of the Pixar film “Monsters University”.
