Once upon a time there was a small coastal village that was visited by a small dragon. This dragon would walk up and down main street letting all know he has made a new home. At first the villagers welcomed this dragon hoping it would be wonderful to have their own dragon in the village. As time went on this dragon got into the habit of breathing fire and singeing some people’s clothes and hair. The dragon seemed to target the villager’s leaders and never revealed this side of him to most people. The village leaders were united in their concerns about this dragon’s unruly behaviors. There was a rumor that this dragon was trained by the village ogre who seemed consistently unhappy and at times vengeful.
One day this dragon left it’s cave in the center of the village, to seek out another cave some distance away. The dragon never told anyone about moving caves going against the rules of the village. In order for a dragon to be allowed to walk up and down main street he had to have a cave in the village. After a period of time the dragon was confronted and told you can’t walk up and down main street against the rules set long ago about dragons.
The dragon no longer lives in the village but to this day some miss the dragon, some are relieved the dragon is gone, and some never even noticed the dragon parading up and down main street. And still others would like the village to return to the days before the dragon ever showed up.

The Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church is pleased to announce that the church’s Outreach Programs (the Food Pantry and Clothing Bank, the CHILD program, Nehalem Senior Lunches, and Munch-a-Lunch) are now organized under a 501(c)3 as a tax-exempt charitable organization called Nehalem Bay Community Services (NBCS).
Being a not-for-profit will allow us greater freedom to grow as we address the changing needs of our community. In addition, we will be able to apply for grants with the goal of helping those in need achieve their full potential.

Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach.
Their troubles, grave and yet somehow hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her.
In the end, the play is the story of how its characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has closed.

It doesn’t have to be an exact match, and it doesn’t have to be in great shape. It doesn’t need a sidearm or side panel. We can work with anything close, but it does require one open end, as pictured.
We have been graciously offered a couple of options, but none are exactly what we are looking for, so the search continues.

Continuing the animals theme, the program includes three short pieces from Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. A solo cello, string bass, and clarinet portray an elegant swan, a lumbering elephant, and a cuckoo calling, all accompanied by pianist Diane Amos.
Other highlights of the concerts include the orchestral work Irlande by Augusta Holmès, the familiar Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar, Julius Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators, and Elmer Bernstein’s Great Escape March.
The first concert will take place on Saturday, March 16, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.
The second concert will be on Sunday, March 17, at the Bob Chisholm Community Center (1225 Avenue A, Seaside, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.
Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for both concerts.
Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.
i agree with his assessment of those who serve the city of manzanita, whether they be volunteers (city council) or paid staff that do the nuts and bolts of work that keeps the city running.
i agree that it’s a great idea to “go straight to the horse’s mouth,” as old timers like to say, if you want to know more about what’s going on. that expression means you are getting information from the person who has direct personal knowledge of it.
and i do know that mark kuestner does NOT sit on manzanita’s city council!

Manzanita has a hard-working bunch of talented volunteers looking after our interests in city government and getting lots of important work done every week.
Tom Campbell was just newly appointed to City Council, Brad Hart as well a few months ago. We got a great new Mayor when Kathryn Stock stepped up to the plate and agreed to serve. Linda Kozlowski has been a true stalwart on council for many years, and 2024 marks the fourth year in Jerry Spegman’s first term on City Council: a good mix of the old and the new.
The Council has been ably supported for years now by city staff, led by City Manager, Leila Aman. Other city staff keeping the lights on in Manzanita: Dan Weitzel, Scott Gebhart, Nancy Jones, Nina Crist, Police Chief Erik Harth and Sergeant Mike Sims among others.
They and their families make up a large part of our community.
City Council recently created a single email address we can use to contact all five of them in one fell swoop: citycouncil@ci.manzanita.or.us
