In our meeting this week – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at St Catherine’s church – we will enjoy a 20 minute video with a teaching from Thich Nhat Hanh that will answer the title question and reveal why these two extraordinary leaders came together.

If you have been wishing to explore learning to quiet down, bring out the best in you and those around you, perhaps learn to abandon addictive behaviors, this week would be a favorable time to dedicate time and effort to this, calendar the meeting…October 25, at 6:00 p.m.

We will also begin a new book that we will read together aloud, covering a short section. Free Medicine by Elias Amidon is a very open invitation to exploring freedom and service in your own life.

Seasons greeting local community members,
As the transition into fall is upon us, darkness sets in as the light hours shrink and the rain pours. It’s not all gloom however! The colors change and an other beautiful side of the NW comes to us. A window cleaning and de-cobwebbing can make a world of difference to keep your home feeling open and spacious by letting the light in; to enjoy and ease into fall. Frames and screens are included with my services.
Moss and lichen may slow down during the colder months but not like plants. Are your stairs and pathways getting slippery? Pressure washing this time of year can benefit all winter long. Gutter cleanings, as well.

Great Decisions Program at NCRD

Submitted By: knappgj@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
The Great Decisions Program is put on every year by the Foreign Policy Association. The is a national program on American Foreign Policy topics that appears on PBS late in the Spring.

Typically local groups get their materials in the winter and discuss one of the 8 topics weekly. A briefing book is provided at cost and often very lively discussions ensue.
I can order books at a discount for the next week, but I need to know how many are interested in the program.

NCRD’s version usually starts in mid-January and goes to mid-March. We meet on Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 pm till around 3:00 pm in the Fireside Room.

NCRD is located at 36155 Ninth St., Nehalem.

For more information on the program or this year’s topics, email me at knappgj@yahoo.com.

POSTED IN BEHALF OF MICHAEL SOMMERS

My family and I have been Nehalem residents since Spring of ’07. We were delighted when we discovered NCRD. It is THE community center. From the exercise opportunities including a pool to art shows and community meetings it has been the beacon of community involvement we were hoping to find. Let’s not forget our updated and upgraded theater. I have had the privilege to act in multiple plays and have formed some friendships which will be lifelong. I could not think of a better use of our funds than to help keep our NCRD the shining star that it is.

Vote YES!!!!!!

Reiki special for new clients Spa Manzanita

Submitted By: info@spamanzanita.com – Click to email about this post
We’re offering $20 off to new Reiki clients on Thursdays and Sundays at Spa Manzanita.

Sessions can be booked online at spamanzanita.com or give us text/call at 503.689.8679

You might be asking What is Reiki?
Reiki is a wellness practice of energy healing. It is believed to help remove energy blockages and restore the body’s natural balance and harmony. It encourages you to be in the present, to be relaxed and aware within yourself, and to allow energy to flow in your life.

You will be face-up on the massage table, remaining fully clothed, except for your shoes, glasses, phone, and smart devices.

Many people report experiencing imagery and enlightenment, feeling relaxed and more at peace after a session. Some discover profound calmness and quieting of “mind chatter”. Each Reiki session will be a similar, yet a unique experience. It is important to note that Reiki should not be used as a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

POSTED IN BEHALF OF MICHAEL HOWES

Dear community members,

I am writing you today to both introduce myself and to ask for your help in supporting the North County Recreation District (NCRD) by voting YES on ballot measure 29-177 during the November 7th, 2023 Special Election. This is a renewal of the 5- year Operational Tax Levy and is essential to ensure funding of the existing services and programs that we all enjoy.

First though – a little bit about my family and I. We moved here in 2022 after a lengthy search for a small coastal town with good schools and a strong sense of community. NCRD was one of the first points of contact for us when we moved here – and in fact the pool and school swim program were major factors in choosing this area. While our son attended preschool at New Discoveries, we realized just how important NCRD is for us and the entire community. The memories we have made and the relationships we have formed there are precious – and the reason why I decided to run for an open board position last spring. Having the opportunity to help nourish and shape NCRD is an honor.

This levy does not present a tax increase and does not fund the new pool project. Five years ago this passed by an astonishing 72.9% – and this year with your support, I hope we are able to surpass that percentage! Please vote YES for NCRD!

Sincerely,

Michael Howes

Board Member, NCRD
