Please join us for a few hours or the day. You will need to register your dog if they want to participate in any of the games. $20/dog gets them into all contests (you can sign up onsite for the contests).

Two of Astoria’s best—The Hackles and Michael Hurley—visit Cannon Beach for a free concert in the park on Sunday, September 17th.

Join us for an evening of sweet strumming and stirring harmonies, as The Hackles and Michael Hurley make a rare visit to Cannon Beach.

The Hackles–Luke Ydstie (guitar), Kati Claborn (banjo) of Blind Pilot, along with Halli Anderson (fiddle)—deliver “Highly refined songwriting and awe-inspiring harmonization,” according to Rough Trade. The group’s latest record, “What A Beautiful Thing I Have Made,” was released this spring.

The album is “is achingly raw and breathtakingly alive,” exclaimed Atwood Magazine. “The Oregon group’s radiant, resonant music provides a captivating backdrop for life’s deeper questions and considerations, compelling us to step back out of our everyday and once again dive deep into ourselves, our worlds, and the things that make our lives worth living.”

Joining the bill is Astoria’s Michael Hurley, who the New York Times dubbed “an original folk iconoclast.”

“This reluctance to work by anyone else’s code epitomizes the recalcitrant idealism of Hurley, one of American folk music’s longest-running survivors and visionaries,” wrote the Times. “For six decades, Hurley has chronicled his passions, problems and curious predilections on several dozen albums, often self-made or self-released. His dependable strangeness and self-reliance cast him as a spiritual forebear and elder ally for songwriters at the country and folk fringes of indie rock,” inspiring luminaries such as Cat Power, Yo La Tengo and Will Oldham.

Hurley will be accompanied by members of The Hackles.

This free, family friendly concert begins at 5:00PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, low-backed chairs and fully stocked picnic baskets.

The park is located in downtown Cannon Beach, northeast of the Chamber of Commerce at 2nd & Spruce.

The concert is produced by the Tolovana Arts Colony and made possible by a Community Grant from the City of Cannon Beach.

Tired of angry, divisive politics? Let’s try this, getting together for civil conversations about the things that matter to us. Everyone welcome, whether you “lean-red”,or “lean-blue”, or are “in-between”. Let’s get together on Zoom and just talk and listen. My hope is that we’ll gain a better understanding of each other by listening to each other. I’m anxious to talk about the book, “Talking Across the Divide”.
