Upcoming event!! June 22nd.
“Deciduous Heroes: Diverse Forests are Healthy Forests” is co-sponsored by NCCWP and our Sister Watershed group in British Columbia, the Peachland Watershed Protection Alliance (PWPA). It will be the first presentation in a three-part transnational speaking tour to discuss the numerous ramifications of pesticide application on our forestlands — including negative impacts to biodiversity, drinking water, human health, and indigenous traditions. The presentation will also discuss the natural social, economic, and cultural benefits of retaining native deciduous plants within our forests. All three presentations will feature Stop the Spray BC activist James Steidle. The Rockaway Beach presentation will also feature presentations by environmental scientist and toxicologist Deke Gundersen, and salmon biologist and enrolled member of the Umatilla Tribe, Ryan Branstetter.
June 22nd from 2-3:30 pm at St. Mary By The Sea Parish Hall (275 S Pacific St., Rockaway Beach, OR). Doors will open at 1:30 pm for mingling. Please join us!!

Susan Louise Reinhardt (née Uhlenkott), beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Manzanita, Oregon on May 6th, at the age of 73, surrounded by family and friends.

Come celebrate the life of Susan Reinhardt! There will be food to share, laughs to be had, and a few tears shed (but not too many). Just as Mom would want it. We will gather on July 28th from 2-4 at the Pine Grove Community Center. The Wondergarden is up the road next to the Manzanita library, and we can gather there if others want to stay longer.

Please, if possible, bring a dish to share or a bottle of wine to open. Bring stories and memories and love.

The North Oregon Coast Symphony concludes its 2023-2024 season with two concerts this weekend. Titled “Poetic Palette”, this series offers a variety of classical pieces from multiple composers. Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra by Max Bruch features two soloists, clarinetist Braden Payne (in his final performance with NOCS) and principal violist Betsey Ellerbroek. Other selections include Offenbach’s Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Berlioz’s Hungarian March, the symphonic poem In The Forest (Miske) by Ciurlionis, and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia.

The first concert will take place on Saturday, June 8, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

The second concert will be on Sunday, June 9, at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (588 16th St., Astoria, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for the Nehalem concert.
Tickets for the Astoria concert will be sold online at LarsenCenter.org or by phone at 503 338 9132. Cookies and refreshments will be available at both concerts during intermission, and NOCS scholarships for graduating seniors will be announced.

This non-profit orchestra, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson, brings together musicians from the north Oregon and south Washington coast to perform classical music for local audiences. For more information, please visit the the NOCS website nocsymphony.org.
