The Shamanic Breathwork Ceremony gives us the opportunity to experience the power of the breath to access expansive states of consciousness where we can release stuck emotions, limiting belies and transform ourselves from conditioned ways of being to the freedom of being who we truly are.

Limited spaces available to join us this Sunday, March 17th at St. Catherine’s Sanctuary, 2-6pm.

Thinking about Republicans

Submitted By: codger817@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I just can’t help it, I’ve been thinking a lot about the Republican party. I grew up in a household that venerated Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman and barely tolerated Eisenhower. I pretty much marched lock-step with the Democratic party until I started my reading binge in 2020. Exposure to authors such as David French, David Brooks, Yuri Laval, Alexandra Hudson, Thomas Frank, and Peter Wehner, among others, have mellowed my views. They remain among my favorites and they showed me that Republicans have some pretty good ideas, too. They also taught me that my beloved Democrats had fingerprints all over our current problems.
I can never really be sure if I’m seeing things clearly or if I’m in the thrall of doom and gloom journalism, but I believe we are at a pivot point in history. We can either work for the progress of our nation and our planet, or we can descend into the depths of demagoguery and despotism. It’s our choice.

I recently came across a 1956 quote from President Eisenhower “If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.”
I fear today’s national Republican party has ceded control to Donald Trump and his MAGA followers. In doing so, they have changed the party into “a conspiracy to seize power”.
When Liz Cheney had the political courage to speak out against Donald Trump she was effectively banished from the Republican party. They called her a RINO (Republican in Name Only). I think she displayed the courage and integrity we normally associate with the “party of Lincoln”. I think anybody who embraces the MAGA banner, are the real RINO’s.
I hope and pray that when our choice comes up in November, we can emerge from our echo chambers long enough to choose for progress and kick demagoguery to the curb forever.

Once Upon A Time…

Submitted By: flbagon@outlook.com – Click to email about this post
A Fairytale Volume 1

Once upon a time there was a small coastal village that was visited by a small dragon. This dragon would walk up and down main street letting all know he has made a new home. At first the villagers welcomed this dragon hoping it would be wonderful to have their own dragon in the village. As time went on this dragon got into the habit of breathing fire and singeing some people’s clothes and hair. The dragon seemed to target the villager’s leaders and never revealed this side of him to most people. The village leaders were united in their concerns about this dragon’s unruly behaviors. There was a rumor that this dragon was trained by the village ogre who seemed consistently unhappy and at times vengeful.
One day this dragon left it’s cave in the center of the village, to seek out another cave some distance away. The dragon never told anyone about moving caves going against the rules of the village. In order for a dragon to be allowed to walk up and down main street he had to have a cave in the village. After a period of time the dragon was confronted and told you can’t walk up and down main street against the rules set long ago about dragons.
The dragon no longer lives in the village but to this day some miss the dragon, some are relieved the dragon is gone, and some never even noticed the dragon parading up and down main street. And still others would like the village to return to the days before the dragon ever showed up.

About North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection:
In 2012, NCCWP was founded in Rockaway Beach, Oregon by citizens who were concerned about the mass clearcutting and aerial pesticide spraying of their primary source of surface drinking water, the Jetty Creek Watershed. Since 2000, that watershed has been about 90% clearcut by timber companies and then sprayed with pesticides. Since NCCWP was established, we have gained many new members on the North Coast of Oregon. We now have over 1,600 members, mostly in the region from Lincoln City to Astoria. We advocate for no more logging, pesticide spraying, nor slash burning within Oregon drinking watersheds, regardless of ownership.
Safe drinking water and clean air are part of the public trust that we all are entitled to have.

‘CRIMES OF THE HEART’ FINAL WEEKEND AT THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Submitted By: admin@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post

FINAL WEEKEND! THREE SHOWS REMAINING, MARCH 15th, 16th, and 17th!
‘CRIMES OF THE HEART’ Live on Stage at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem.

Great seats available at www.RiverbendPlayers.org

CRIMES OF THE HEART (Pulitzer Prize Winner):

The scene is Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital.

Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach.

Their troubles, grave and yet somehow hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her.
In the end, the play is the story of how its characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has closed.

RIVERBEND PLAYERS COMMUNITY THEATER LOOKING FOR VICTORIAN STYLE FAINTING COUCH/CHAISE LOUNGE

Submitted By: fsquillo@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post

Riverbend Players is looking for a furniture piece like the one pictured in this post for our next production, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG.

We will need to borrow it until mid-June.

It doesn’t have to be an exact match, and it doesn’t have to be in great shape. It doesn’t need a sidearm or side panel. We can work with anything close, but it does require one open end, as pictured.

We have been graciously offered a couple of options, but none are exactly what we are looking for, so the search continues.

If you or anyone you know has this and would be kind enough to let us use it in our production, please get in touch with our director, Frank Squillo, at fsquillo@riverbendplayers.org.

Thank you!

SyMPHONY CONCERTS THIS WEEKEND!

Submitted By: sdawagner@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2023-2024 season with two concerts this weekend. Designed to please audience members of all ages, the performances will feature Greg Smith’s Zoo Song. This musical story of a young person’s first visit to the zoo is a wonderful form for introducing the various orchestral instruments, as each animal in the story is represented by a musical “voice.” The narrator will be Deac Guidi, a local professional opera singer who has performed throughout the northwest region. He also teaches Speech Communication at Clatsop Community College.

Continuing the animals theme, the program includes three short pieces from Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. A solo cello, string bass, and clarinet portray an elegant swan, a lumbering elephant, and a cuckoo calling, all accompanied by pianist Diane Amos.

Other highlights of the concerts include the orchestral work Irlande by Augusta Holmès, the familiar Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar, Julius Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators, and Elmer Bernstein’s Great Escape March.

The first concert will take place on Saturday, March 16, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

The second concert will be on Sunday, March 17, at the Bob Chisholm Community Center (1225 Avenue A, Seaside, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for both concerts.
Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.

once again i find myself strongly agreeing with mark kuestner’s bbq post.

i agree with his assessment of those who serve the city of manzanita, whether they be volunteers (city council) or paid staff that do the nuts and bolts of work that keeps the city running.

i agree that it’s a great idea to “go straight to the horse’s mouth,” as old timers like to say, if you want to know more about what’s going on. that expression means you are getting information from the person who has direct personal knowledge of it.

and i do know that mark kuestner does NOT sit on manzanita’s city council!

i have copied and pasted his post here below, to be clear in your minds that which i am addressing.

i live in nehalem, and am an interested observer, sometimes participant, in changes and happenings in north tillamook county.

Our Neighbors.
Manzanita has a hard-working bunch of talented volunteers looking after our interests in city government and getting lots of important work done every week.
Tom Campbell was just newly appointed to City Council, Brad Hart as well a few months ago. We got a great new Mayor when Kathryn Stock stepped up to the plate and agreed to serve. Linda Kozlowski has been a true stalwart on council for many years, and 2024 marks the fourth year in Jerry Spegman’s first term on City Council: a good mix of the old and the new.
The Council has been ably supported for years now by city staff, led by City Manager, Leila Aman. Other city staff keeping the lights on in Manzanita: Dan Weitzel, Scott Gebhart, Nancy Jones, Nina Crist, Police Chief Erik Harth and Sergeant Mike Sims among others.
They and their families make up a large part of our community.
City Council recently created a single email address we can use to contact all five of them in one fell swoop: citycouncil@ci.manzanita.or.us
Next time an issue comes up that you’re curious about, a procedure that you think needs some tweaking, let them know your thoughts,
