Corvus Landing is a solo project by Carolina Lysse, a recovering farmer now living in Nehalem.

With a voice like sweet bourbon, Corvus Landing sings about light and dark, flying and falling, presence and the passing of time.

Pulling from jazz, Americana, soul, and pop influences, she is a one-woman band with a unique multi-instrumental style.

Carolina plays original songs and familiar tunes like you haven’t heard them before.

A presentation by Ernie Niemi ‘The Climate Crisis & The Oregon Coast-An Economic Perspective’ On Thursday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Mary by the Sea Catholic Church Parish Hall (275 S. Pacific St.; Rockaway Beach, OR 97136), North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) will host natural resource economist Ernie Niemi. Educated at the University of Oregon and Harvard, Mr. Niemi is President of Natural Resource Economics, Inc. where he specializes in economic-impact analysis to understand the economic importance of natural resources. He has been active on numerous advisory boards, including the Citizen’s Task Force for Developing a Strategic Plan for the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, and the Technical Advisory Committee on Land Use and Economic Development for the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development. Mr. Niemi’s presentation will broadly explore the economic consequences of the climate crisis before examining the economic importance of maintaining our forested ecosystem. Audience participation is encouraged by Niemi. All are invited to attend and learn about how interconnected the health of our environment and our economy really are. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for mingling before the speaker event begins. Pizza will be provided and admission is free to all. Meet Olive and Isis. They are currently in a foster home and available for adoption through United Paws of Tillamook. Are you looking for adult cat companions? These young cats have fantastic personalities! Olive (tabby) is the classic entertaining, cartoonish cat to have around the house – she wrestles her mirror image, loves to lounge and gaze out the window, and tells you about her day with her very sweet vocalizations. Isis (sable brown) is the lover of the two – she wants to snuggle next to you for pets, lounge in her favorite chair, and follow you around the house. They enjoy playing with toys, both independently and with a human. Olive performs incredible gymnastics when chasing the feathers on a wire, while Isis makes lightening-fast moves to secure the prey.

would like to express a sincere Thank You to the wonderful friends in our community, and beyond, AND to our intrepid small business owners in the Tri-village area for your generous donations to our new table fund.

We, who strive to keep our grange hall maintained and accessible for use by all who are in need of a large gathering venue, appreciate the ease of setting up and putting away of our new tables.

Also, Thank You to all who gave our old tables new homes- repurposing is very important to our community!

Two new Eco Prints by local artist Levering Thomas at Manzanita News & Expresso, located in downtown Manzanita.

On display and for sale at MN&E are unique Eco Prints, created using the elements of nature. The colors are a result of the tannins stored in the leaves, the type of paper used, the mordant used, and steaming hot water. Several wild animals of the Tillamook often have icky and gross behaviors, but for good reasons. Join us for a program filled with “eeewwws” and “aahhhs” as we discover that nature can be disgusting, but also beautiful.

Along the way, we will peek into the lives of Walter and Alice Smith who were the first European settlers in this area. The walk will begin at the Smith Homestead Day Use Area with a total walking distance of one mile.

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week

Meet ELI & Primo!!! Ready to Adopt!!!
If you are looking for the ideal kitten, look no further. Eli checks all the boxes! He adores being cuddled and petted, and purrs the instant you touch him. And on top of that, he is a handsome boy with the sleekest fur imaginable. Looks even better than Bond in a tuxedo!
Eli greets new people with no fear, immediately in his friendly mode! He likes to “hunt” mice on a stick and springs like a panther when he chases them. Gets along great with other cats and would probably do well with friendly dogs and older children.
Eli was rescued as a baby with badly injured back legs, but he is as good as new now! United Paws would love to see Eli be adopted into a family with other kittens & cats. Ideally, with his buddy Primo, described below.
Primo is one handsome, affectionate fella! He has a gorgeous, ticked tabby coat with elegant white tuxedo markings. He is very precocious and intelligent, always first to explore something new. That’s how he got his name! He is always the “first” of his “tabby palooza” litter of 5 to do everything. He was the first to try something besides Mama’s milk, first to eat solid food, and first to use the litter box.
When Primo is not off adventuring, he loves being cuddled and petted, and he gives freely of his plentiful affection. He is energetic and absolutely loves wrestling with his litter mates and especially his good buddy Eli. Primo makes friends with other kitties quickly and would get along fine with friendly dogs if introduced in the proper manner. He would love to go to his new forever home with his buddy Eli.

Rare, classic handmade Sawyer from the innovative Rogue River company best known for their custom designed canoe and kayak paddles. Vintage Sawyer expedition type bent stem, beautifully laminated high strength paddle. I used this for over 30 years, and it’s powerfully efficient. The Sawyer really powered my 20’ Grand Laker wooden canoe through the water. The wide blade , 16×8, the extra push from the bent configuration and the 59” stem really add to canoe speed. The McMinnville Short Film Festival will offer a pop-up screening of five environmental or documentary short films at the North County Recreation District Performing Arts Center Saturday, Sep. 7 at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

Held each February in McMinnville, Ore., the internationally recognized short film festival is in its 14th year, focusing on a range of narrative topics, including Native American, Drama, LGBTQ, Comedy, Horror, Experimental, Animation, and Documentary films.
