We just watched The View this morning and Bill Clinton was the guest.
Shortly afterwards I saw a news story online by ABC headlined: “Bill Clinton indicates he hopes Biden doesn’t issue preemptive pardons”
WHAT??? Do they have AI making this stuff up, or is it just sloppy journalism? Worse yet, intentionally malicious?
Anyone who watched the interview knows Clinton was referring to Trump seeking retribution against his list of political enemies when Clinton said “I hope he won’t do that.”
Instead, ABC extrapolated that into something, immediately prior in the interview, Clinton specifically said he wouldn’t do! And now ABC’s headline is all over the media. Will anyone at ABC correct or retract it? “I don’t think so Tim” (as Al Borland often said on Home Improvement).
All I can say is we can do better. Meanwhile don’t let them get away with it.

Heard on the bench

“Heard on the Bench”*
Today’s episode happened at the Motor Vehicle Department. There were four us waiting our turn, 2 men and 2 women. I started out with the man and opened with, “Somehow you look familiar?”. It’s a safe subject and with my 45 years in the county, maybe they should be familiar.
It turned out he was the nephew of a man I worked closely with at the cheese factory for decades. I told him about how his uncle would wheedle me into making repairs and modifications without pesky paperwork. He got a good laugh out of my story
Then I went on to the tricky question, “How do you feel about this last election?” He gave me a “thumbs-up” sign and smiled and said. “I’m so glad we kept the Democrats out.”
When I asked him why, it was, “They’re baby-killers and want to turn all our young people gay.”
I spent a lot of time this election season with a lot of Democrats from all over and I just can’t remember any of them ever advocating any of those positions.
I responded with “I think what you call baby killing is a religious belief not all of us share. Jewish people don’t call it a baby until it draws its own breath. Maybe you’re right, maybe they’re right.”
He countered with, “I’m a born-again Christian and there’s no baby-killing in the bible.”
One of the women entered the conversation with, “What about the 10th. Egyptian plaque of killing the first-born children, in Exodus.”
A couple of numbers were called out and our group dissolved. Conversation stopped but I think we were all left with a lot to think about.
The idea of God being involved in after birth abortions never crossed my mind before. But it’s there it is, in the Bible.
Our way of “framing” defines us.
For him, it was a very simple, “Democrats are baby killers and want everybody to be gay.”
For me, it’s a very simple, “I like freedom and I don’t like government control. It’s really none of my business what a woman wants to do with her body. It’s really none of my business how someone wishes to express their sexuality. It shouldn’t be any business of the government either.”
I’d like to think I’m right, but nobody bats 1000%.

Save our wetlands! Support the Appeal!

Neighbors and Friends: Join Us Tonight for RB City Decision on Nedonna Wave Appeal
The effort to save the Nedonna Beach wetlands continues. As you know, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition filed an appeal of the Rockaway Beach Planning Commission’s approval of the proposed Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development, Phase 2 (PUD-24). Thanks go to those who have attended or watched both the Rockaway Beach Planning Commission meetings and the City Council meetings regarding the appeal. Special thanks go to those who have given in-person testimony and/or have submitted comments to the City. The level of public support for the appeal has been strong and heartening. Plus the yard signs with the image of a kingfisher have helped generate attention to the environment that would be lost or further imperiled by allowing this PUD to be built.

Please consider attending one final Rockaway Beach City Council meeting regarding this issue on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m. At that meeting, the Council will deliberate and decide either to support the appeal of Nedonna Wave or reject it. This will be a regular agenda item and, it seems, this will be one of the first items to be decided. (In other words, it shouldn’t be necessary to sit through the whole meeting to hear the decision.) The more people who show up in person (or who watch on Zoom), the better. City Council members need to see that we are not indifferent to this development. The appeal records have now been closed; therefore, no more testimony will be accepted. However, it is still important to show support for the appeal by attending in person or by Zoom, talking with neighbors and friends, posting on social media, and writing letters to the media. City Council meetings take place at Rockaway Beach City Hall; 276 Hwy 101; Rockaway Beach, Oregon.

4pm tide is low … This is a house like concert in St Catherine’s Episcopal Church … I’ll sing a bunch of my songs and sprinkle in a couple of Christmas ones and a cover or two … our third year doing this and most people describe it as a chance to sit back and process or feel whatever you need to … a little soul restorative … sometimes tears sometimes funny … and all that stuff in between … bring your Kleenex or your dog your partner or bff or bring yourself solo …

On board will be the three-variety raw honey “samplers” (see picture) which are $29 each – two for $55 or you can take FOUR for $100 on this trip only – they’re a convenient/delicious/awesome gift to hand off – or ship. I will also have quarts of the raw blackberry honey collected from the Blodgett area of the coast range – $29 each. Real maple syrup in GLASS package are $32 per quart – and the white “jug” style (BPA-free plastic) are $28 each. Holy Kakow! handmade chocolate sauce from Sisters are two-for-$15 – quite wholesome and could be a great ‘stocking stuffer’. Santa Story Time

Join us at the Cannon Beach Library Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m. for Santa Story Time! Special appearance by Santa, who will read “The Night Before Christmas.” Volunteers will read Holiday stories and a story in Spanish, followed by crafting mini pinatas. Children will receive a take-home hot chocolate bomb, donated by Bruce’s Candy Kitchen, and the library will provide children with a FREE Holiday book (while supplies last). All ages are welcome!

This is about the huge metal containers where we open that heavy lid and put all kinds of clothes in. GAYA is printed on the bins. So today I asked Dustin who manages our recycling site the difference between Gaya and CARE.
He said Gaya takes donations all over and beyond. We would prefer to keep the donations among our local community he said.
I sent a message to CARE website . it would be good for us and them to have a donation site here in Manzanita Meanwhile remember that there is a fabulous HABITAT FOR HUMANITAS outlet on 101 Tillamook just before Fred Meyers.
