Many of us are baffled why anyone would vote for Trump. Could Trump supporters simply be deceived and manipulated?

WHAT! How ridiculous to suggest half the US voting population is deceived and manipulated.

I am running for re-election to a second term on Manzanita’s city council, and I would greatly appreciate your support.

During my first term I served with eight different councilors and three different mayors. After having one city manager from 1996 to 2016, Manzanita has had three since. And through all this turnover, the work of the city continued. Challenges were met, and progress was made.

As a councilor, I’m one of about thirty volunteers that make our citizen-driven local government work. We serve on the Planning Commission, Budget Committee, STR Committee, Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, and City Council. We have a variety of backgrounds and represent a diversity of perspectives. We attend a whole lot of meetings, read a load of reports, and do plenty of independent research on behalf of the residents of Manzanita, as well as its many non-voter stakeholders.

We collaborate with our outstanding city staff to address an array of issues, not just for today but often with impacts well into the future. We are constantly building on the work of our predecessors, and planning for the work of our successors.

Manzanita is in the early stages of revising its Comprehensive Plan, and we need to reach a workable consensus on what kind of community we want to be. We have far more houses than residents, and with that come more complexities to address than in a typical town of 600. We need our revised plan to reflect how we see ourselves now, and moving forward. Our revised plan will drive policy decisions in the years ahead impacting our finances, housing stock, environment, commercial development, demographics and more.

Local governments can at times be short-sighted or reactive, but I see little risk of that here, particularly under the leadership of an exemplary mayor and an extraordinary city manager. It’s an honor to serve with them, and with the other volunteers and staff that make our city work. From where I sit, we are blessed to have so many committed people offering their talent and effort to enhance our community. I appreciate the calm, deliberative, and measured approach regularly on display at both the volunteer and staff levels, and I believe Manzanita voters can support the current team with confidence.

We are far away, but we can help. Light weight readers can be shipped and used by donations centers fairly inexpensively. Can you imagine filling out required paperwork without them?

Anyone want to help or join in? I can come pick up and ship. Prescription readers are inexpensive and lightweight and we can get several there quickly. I can pick up Sunday afternoon. Perhaps meet up at different spots?

There will be an influx of supplies for younger people, but how about our other vulnerable populations?

Vance is the strangest political candidate we have ever seen. Women are having less babies because child car seats were invented. Families should get extra votes for each baby they have. Universities should be shut down and sold to developers.

JD Vance deliberately started the “neighbors are eating the pets” chaos. He says it is OK to lie to get people riled up.

FREE SPEECH
TikTok. 170 million Americans are on TikTok, including Biden’s campaign. The attempt to ban TikTok is nothing more than the latest assault on free speech by government and big tech through censoring and controlling the internet and social media.

TikTok is the leading platform for young people to communicate about their reality of being unable to afford rent, groceries, education and other essentials, while the worsening climate crisis looms over our future and both parties in Washington squander our money on endless war and genocide. Trying to ban TikTok is a transparent attempt to shut down this channel for us to communicate instead of solving the real problems we face.
We won’t let the elites take away one of the last remaining vehicles for free speech. We will not vote for any candidate who supports banning TikTok, and we will only support candidates who protect our free speech.

PREMISE:
The actions perpetrated against the non-military Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank constitute a crime, a crime against humanity, a war crime or Genocide. Call it what you will.

FACT
The Biden Administration and the candidates for President of the United States chosen by each of the two major political parties openly support Israel’s actions in both Gaza and the West Bank and thus are complicit in them. So say a majority of the UN General Assembly and a significant number of the Countries of the world, the UN International Court of Justice, UN Court of International Law, Scholars of International Law and many well-known scholars, such as Norman Finkelstein and Prof. John Mearsheimer and other reputable and knowledgeable individuals such as Max Blumenthal, Scott Ritter, Jeffery Sachs, Ray McGovern and Alastair Crooke to name a few.

And what can be said of those who vote for one or the other of the aforementioned candidates and their party? Will they have denied that which has been seen ad nauseam on mainstream media since October 8th, 2023, reason that such actions are justified by the right of Israel to exist or find some other rationale to justify their vote and thus become complicit themselves? Since a vote is tantamount to support, one could reasonably conclude the chain of complicity has not been broken so, indeed, the hypothetical voter would surely be complicit.

A prudent voter would, when determining whether to vote for a candidate, determine that candidate held the voter’s basic principles.

Further, if a liberal Democrat or other Democrat holding some liberal views, they would decry racism in any form. Since genocide is racism in its most vile and virulent form, how could said voter cast a vote, say, for the present democratic presidential candidate without violating a basic principle of liberalism and thus becoming complicit in genocide?

Since the Republican Party’s candidate also supports Israel’s actions against the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, this same question could be posed to a conservative Republican voter, providing they decry racism in its varying forms.

This scenario provides both major parties with a conundrum … one which calls for the voter to remain true to their basic principles or allow the policies of their Party or Party’s candidate to supersede them. It is times like these that try one’s faith and resolution.

Why I’m voting Harris, with reluctance I’m down with Chuck in that Jill Stein is the morally correct choice in the fast-approaching election. And I agree with Chappell Roan that “both sides” have problems. So I will vote for Harris this time, because, unlike her opponent, she has not proclaimed LOUDLY that she will be a dictator and she is not an out mobster/rapist/fabulist/insurrectionist.
Harris will likely restore women’s rights to the degree they can be restored, for those courageous enough to dodge the bullets. She will preserve professionalism in federal agencies, which her opponent has vowed to destroy. The endless, expanding wars will continue, with full US taxpayer support and an approaching military draft, irrespective of who “wins”. Harris continues to be an ardent supporter of Israeli state fascism. Greenwashing will continue as the earth burns. Any sort of resistance to oppression and state violence is being squelched, and it appears Harris is OK with that. Her opponent openly threatens earth protectors and peace advocates with imprisonment and death.
So yeah, I’m voting for Harris, but not because I have any notion that the Democratic Party is benign or altruistic. It’s because her opponent is so obviously seriously impaired and very dangerous.

Since the rules have changed and we can now poke at the other candidate for president I am submitting my reasons for not voting for Kamala Harris. I am one of the many independent voters in Tillamook county.
1. I have observed Kamala in her role as vice president. I have not been impressed in any way,
period. Not impressed.
2. The more I find out about her and listen to her
talk the more alarmed I am. Searching the internet I find lots of things that make her a very unattractive candidate but decided I would write about her stance on the important issues facing our country.

Her solution to put in “price controls” are alarming. Throughout history this has never worked and causes food shortages and famine. Food shortages and famine are a globalists plan. I haven’t heard anything different from her so far. She listened to what Trump proposed for helping the economy and she said -OH! Yeah! me too. If Trump has a good idea about some tax cuts -Kamala says OH! “me-too” Oh – and the border – now she says Oh “me- too.”
She is your “me too” candidate for president!
The border. Crossing our border now, are drug cartels, human traffickers, armed young men of military age, lots of Chinese who have their own special route. Lots of fentanyl coming in to Oregon -a big enough problem here to pass some legislation about solving this problem.The reason countries have “borders” and a border check points are to keep out these kinds of people.
I guarantee you she will do nothing about the open border because that is a globalists policy – it is happening to other countries as well – open borders – This is a globalists policy – the purpose of which is to destroy nation states and have a “One World Government” She will not have a protected border. She is working for the globalists, although she probably doesn’t realize that.
Health Care: Many persons running for office are for “medicare for all” Obama ran on this – We vote for people who say they are for this, but we never get it. Oregon has been working on a medicare for all plan for a while but there is the Oregon Health Care plan now for medicaid and it has very serious problems. So I have no hopes for “medicare for all” in Oregon. Or in the USA.
Womans rights? I assume hers is the typical pro-choice stance, as is mine. And Trump’s is pro-life. In Oregon our Oregon constitution guarantees abortion rights so that is not a problem in this state. Pro-choice is here!
There is a childcare tax credit. It was 3000.00 when Trump took office – he raised it twice to 5000.00 and Kamala says she is going to raise it to 6000.00. That is her answer to the economy and young people who would like to be home owners. She says she will give a 25,000 dollar down payment to first time home buyers – well that is nice. Who is going to pay for it and will it be enough to buy a home? I don’t know and I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for this either.

She has failed miserably in all debates except the one by ABC which was totally stacked by friends in the media business: GOP congressman says ABC News may be called to testify about Trump-Harris debate fairness. Other than that she has failed miserably in debates or serious interviews –
and appears to be drugged. Seriously she does appear to be drugged, and I think she is. I tuned into the Oprah-Harris Townhall interview and was watching it – and it was quite embarrassing for Kamala. She actually once again appeared to be under the influence of something – drug or alcohol. My son and his daughter are here visiting. They are Kamala voters – I turned to Oprahs program for them but they said they didn’t watch stuff like that. I am convinced that they are voting AGAINST Trump instead of voting FOR Kamala. What are you doing?

Dear BBQ readers,

Actually I rather like the fact that the BBQ website doesn’t normally get into politics much. But as many of us know, this election has caused us a lot of anxiety so it isn’t too surprising to see more BBQ politics.

What i will add to the political discussion on the BBQ just before the election are some links to information.

Personally i’m pretty liberal so you can figure out who I am voting for. I have respect for the republican party of old, but it seems obvious that the party has gone a bit haywire since Trump got involved. Maybe the republican party needs to take the next four years and rebuild their platform.

If you support trump, you might want to read the material linked to below. They all warn against electing Trump, but they are respectable journalistic or otherwise well researched material.

Two articles from the New York Times editorial staff. One about Trumps fitness for office, and one about what Trump’s associates have warned about Trump. These are not partisan, politically biased articles, but are objective. Well, objective as much as we can be in these weird times.

Not to mention Vance and Walz will be debating in a few days.

There have been 3 identical posts with the title “why I am voting for Trump” on the bbq lately. They list a lot of values, a number of which I share.

And I strongly disagree that Trump will protect or support those values.

I believe that the only thing on Donald Trump’s agenda is Donald Trump.

He has said that if you vote in this election for him you will never have to vote again. He wants to be a dictator and get to do whatever he wants, especially now that the Supreme Court has decided the President is above the law.

I believe he doesn’t care about us or our rights at all.

I’m voting for the Second Amendment and my right to defend my life and my family. I’m voting for the next Supreme Court Justice to protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I’m voting for the continued growth of my retirement investments and reducing inflation. I’m voting for a return of our troops from foreign countries and the end to America’s involvement in foreign conflicts. I’m voting for the Electoral College and for the Republic in which we live. I’m voting for the police to be respected once again and to ensure law and order. I’m tired of criminals having a revolving door and being put back on the street. I’m voting for the continued appointment of Federal Judges who respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I’m voting for keeping our jobs in America and not outsourcing them all over the world, to China, Mexico, and other foreign countries. I want USA made. I’m voting for secure borders and legal immigration and to put a stop to the massive illegal invasion we’re currently experiencing. I am voting for doing away with all of the freebies given to illegals. I’m voting to look after the needs of American citizens. I’m voting for the Military and the Veterans who fought for this Country to give us our freedoms. I’m voting for unborn babies that have a right to live. I’m voting to give peace a chance in the Middle East. I’m voting to fight against human/child trafficking. I’m voting for Freedom of Religion. I am voting for the return of teaching our children math, history, and science in our schools instead of political correct indoctrination. There are several reasons why I am voting for Kamala Harris to be our next President. Foremost is that she has shared the helm during the Biden administration, which has worked tirelessly to help us, the lower and middle classes, to begin to regain lost traction in the economic playing field. And she has promised to continue and expand that policy. She has also partnered with Joe Biden to regain respect and partnership from foreign leaders for our country. She has promised to protect and expand Social Security which many of us here rely on to help with daily living expenses. And she exhibits strong leadership, with a firm grasp on the policies that protect and support not only all Americans, but our allies around the world. She has chosen a running mate, Tim Walz, who we can all see as a wholesome father figure, as well as a very savvy politician. He has brought so much to his own state as Governor of Minnesota and will bring the same as second in command for our country. And, finally, 51% of Americans are being victimized by state legislators who have passed laws that disenfranchise them from power over their own bodies. Imagine if this were also expanded to the other 49% and how they might make health decisions that affect their bodies. Like prostate cancer, or erectile dysfunction. No Viagra for you. No medical procedures that will save your ability to have an erection. Imagine how that might go. Can this really be a political issue at all? How did that happen? This is a medical conversation between a doctor and their patient. How did it end in state legislatures? This is a question that does not have an easy answer but, in the meantime, we will have to go through the legislative process to rectify this overreach of law-making that has plagued our country and needs to be reined in to respect American people’s rights. That means that there needs to be down the line voting for Democrats to put Democracy back into our governmental process. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to protecting and expanding the 51%’s rights to make medical and health decisions about their own bodies. And that’s why I’m voting for Harris and Walz.

What I cannot understand, is how anyone who has a daughter; anyone who is a veteran or has family members who are veterans; or is or knows anyone who immigrated to our country from another, can possibly vote for trump!
He has shown, time and again, that he has no respect for women or their bodies. He has displayed “pervy” behavior towards women through both his words and actions. What parent could sanction such behavior by voting for this man?
He has shown not only a lack of of respect for those who are or have been in military service, but
actual disdain for those who serve our country. There is example after example of if this disdain from his own draft dodging (not based on a political stance, but on self interest) to comments about the service of others, and his use of a Arlington National Cemetery as a campaign stop.
He has purposefully spread lies about immigrants in the face of real facts in order to engender fear to gin up his own support.
It is sad that so many Americans have fallen prey to the dishonesty and dishonor of the far right. It is against every principle of decency and is mean, ugly, and unconscionable.

I would like to update and summarize the two drug bills in Oregon, measure 110, and HB 4002.

Measure 110 is still in effect! This info is in an article in the Seaside Signal written by Oregon Capitol Chronicle which is a journal written by Dems for Dems about what’s happening in Oregon via the legislature. Always good news – even if it isn’t! I read this regularly.

This article says that a new director to implement measure 110 has been chosen. And also it mentions that the “money” for this measure is still there!! Now why would they mention that? Don’t most of us expect that money given to implement a measure would be there? There were “rumors” that it was “mis managed” A nice way of putting it! They don’t mention the former directors name. Just forget it. The new director’s name is Abby Stamp and she starts her new job on October 15th. She has fifteen years experience in behavioral health and criminal justice. So apparently she, under the guidelines of measure 110 will be in charge of seeing that “treatment for addiction” will be provided. I assume this means that professional therapists will be available to provide treatment for those with drug addiction. Will this happen? I hope so and I think this is great. I feel ok with this and will keep track to see if this happens.

On the other hand measure HB 4002 did re-criminalize hard drugs. Those caught would be arrested and appropriately sentenced, given a choice between jail and “treatment”…But WAIT- Almost 2 years after passing measure 110 there is still very little treatment available, no monies were given to increase available treatment. What happened to the money? (It’s still there! It’s still there! they say) so then what? What do you do with an addict who says they want treatment when none is available? Well – there is deflection! YES a new term for me, DEFLECTION! Under HB 4002 if the criminal chooses treatment rather than jail (and who wouldn’t ?) They get deflection which means they go to a deflection house and sign in. They get a thorough check up- physical and background check. Then they can stay there – have a roof over their heads – get off the street- which is very important if you want to stop drug abuse, or they can leave – and thats that. There is nothing stopping them from going back on the street and doing drugs if they choose. They can be deflected over and over again…no limit!! Thats what I read – so back on the street again!!

Well, that’s Oregon government for you – doesn’t appear to work very well!

remember Democrats have to keep criminals on the streets. So all those who are arrested with drug charges are given a choice – jail or treatment – but there is no treatment at this time – so they are given “defection

This election is not about choosing the most likeable person.
We are voting between two vastly different ideologies. We are voting for the country we want to leave our children and grandchildren.
Trump represents that future and has proven that he can deliver. He is a patriot to the core and even served his country for 4 years without pay.
That moment when someone says,
“I can’t believe you’re voting for Trump”. I simply reply, “I’m NOT voting for Trump.”
I’m voting for the First Amendment and freedom of speech. I’m voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored.
I’m voting for secure borders and LEGAL immigration. I am voting for election integrity to include mandatory voter ID. (Why would anyone vote against this?)
I’m voting for the Second Amendment and my right to defend my life and my family.

I’m voting for Freedom of Religion.
I am voting for the return of teaching math, history, and science instead of the indoctrination of our children.
I’m not just voting for one person.

I’m voting for my children to ensure their freedoms
America is the greatest country in the world, hense why everyone wants to immigrate here. So why do you want to change it?
Why do politicians want to enact policies that have failed in other countries throughout history?
