LAST Summer CONCERT at NorthFork53!!!

Submitted By: whisperweald@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Come sit by the river, bring a picnic, and soak in some of that magic summer-turning-to-fall sun while listening to some soul feeding tunes.

Mojo Holler weaves threads from Appalachian
mountain ranges to the Mississippi Delta into a tapestry of indie folk rock.
Mister Baker, like Robert Johnson before him, may have made a deal with the devil — channeling an innate genius through lap steel, slide and dobro.
Missi’s earthy voice brings burning intensity to each song.
And joining the duo for this special concert is their dear friend Randy, rounding out the sound with strings.

If you want to check out Mojo’s sound head over to the website- where I’ve got one of their latest videos up.

You can grab tix there too

A Guided Book Forum: Finish Strong: Putting Your Priorities First at Life’s End

Submitted By: margo@northcoasteolcollective.com – Click to email about this post
Date: October 23rd – January 22, 2025 from 6 – 7:00 p.m.(PST) Offering: Finish Strong: Prioritizing What Matters Most at Life’s End – A 7-week Guided Book Forum with Author and End-of-Life Advocate Barbara Coombs Lee in collaboration with the Hopewell House. Location: Virtual (Zoom) Registration (required) www.northcoasteolcollective.com/events-one/finish-strong-book-discussion-series Cost: There is no cost, but you must purchase the book Finish Strong: Putting Your Priorities First at Life’s End, 2nd Edition. Facilitator: Barbara Coombs Lee
Description Barbara Coombs Lee, distinguished author, and end-of-life advocate, will lead a 7-part discussion of the book’s instructive stories, practical knowledge, and vital tips. She will cover a breadth of topics, including: – Identifying what matters most as illness advances and vigor wanes – Staying off the overtreatment conveyor belt – Knowing when “slow medicine” is the best option to maintain quality of life – Finding a partner-doctor to honor your values and beliefs with humanity, deference and candor – Planning to escape dementia when the quality of life crosses a critical threshold – Finding hospice and optimal end-of-life care for an ultimately healing experience
About the Author In her book Finish Strong: Putting Your Priorities First at Life’s End, Barbara writes about protecting our values and priorities during challenging decisions at the end of life. Her focus is empowering individuals to assert their agency and keep personal values and beliefs at the forefront amid the complexities of healthcare choices. Barbara’s career as a clinician, attorney, Oregon Senate committee staff, and healthcare executive taught her about dignity and agency at the end of life. In 1994, she co-authored and campaigned for the Oregon Death with Dignity Act, establishing the right for terminally ill, mentally capable adults to self-administer life-ending medication. Years of activism defending the nation’s first medical-aid-in-dying law made her a seasoned spokesperson and effective champion of patient-directed healthcare. Barbara is a part-time resident living on the North Coast.
A recent comment from a resident: “Barbara Coombs Lee’s book, “Finish Strong, offers a down-to-earth, holistic approach to anyone concerned about living and dying consciously. The book provides guidance for people facing severe health challenges and decisions about end-of-life issues. It also includes suggestions for caregivers wanting to support their loved ones. This book includes a chapter for people concerned about dementia and emphasizes leading one’s life with quality time as the priority. I recommend this book to anyone interested in becoming empowered to live and die with dignity.”

Kerilynn Wilson to Discuss Her Heartfelt Graphic Novel, ‘The Faint of Heart’

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Award-winning author Kerilynn Wilson will discuss her debut graphic novel, “The Faint of Heart,” fantasy story about living in a world where people no longer have hearts, during a presentation sponsored by the Cannon Beach Library on Sept. 7.
Wilson will open the library’s Northwest Authors Series season with a presentation at 2 p.m. in the library, 131 N. Hemlock St. This is a free, hybrid event; attend in person at the library or watch online via the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org.
The 2024 Oregon Book Award winner for graphic literature, “The Faint of Heart,” is about June, a teenager who lives in a world where humans remove their hearts to avoid feeling pain. June is the only person left with a heart. When she finds a heart in a jar abandoned in an alley, June hopes to return her sister to normal with it and begins an unexpected adventure with a heartless boy who is somehow beginning to feel again.
Although she lives in Oregon City, her mind tends to wander to made-up places in her head. Those places might be filled with flying jellyfish and birds that eat the stars. She says she has a “love of the weird and wonderful.”
When Wilson isn’t working or making up different places, she enjoys making bagels, crafting insect sculptures and going on walks with her husband and two daughters.
The Northwest Authors Series committee hosts authors from September through May. In March, the committee honors local writers during the Writers Read Celebration.
Authors scheduled for 2024-2025 are:
• Josephine Woolington, Saturday, Oct. 5
• Cliff Taylor, Saturday, Nov 9
• Erica Berry, Saturday, Jan.25
• Rachel King, Saturday, Feb. 22
• Writers Read, Friday, March 14
• Daniela Molnar, Saturday, April 26
• Marcelle Heath, Saturday, May 17
