A time to pause with a nice cup of chai and reflect on what’s unfolded over the past 9 months of 2022. Take your time. It’s been a lot!
When I was a kid my mom brought me into to see an expensive allergy doctor because I was constantly having ear aches and runny noses.
I remember the doctor putting on a cartoon to distract me while he pulled out what seemed like endless trays of allergy test needles.
As soon as I saw the needles I started to bawl. I must have been about 5 years old and it’s a memory that seared into my little brain.
After that awful jabby appointment, the doctor came back with the grand diagnosis of “She’s allergic to the changing of the seasons”.
My mom was so angry about that- and I was too! I mean poking me with a hundred needles just to tell me I’m allergic to weather?
I’ve been thinking about this lately because as an adult I realize I actually am extra sensitive to the turning of the seasons- we all are.
It’s something that ancient healing traditions around the world paid close attention to before there were artificial lights and cell phones to distract us from what nature is doing.
As we hustle along in this culture of information overwhelm, it’s easy to forget that the Fall Equinox stands like a big yellow road sign on the calendar reading “Slow Down”.
I happen to be really bad at slowing down- and if you are too, I hope this list of 8 ancient wellness practices for fall will help you take care of yourself as the season shifts.
When nature undergoes a rapid and massive shift in energy (fall and spring) we humans we most definitely are affected.
The good news is that part of staying healthy and grounded in the fall includes lots of lovely sleep and deliciousness- including pumpkin, spice and chai. (look for that back on our fall menu next week!)
To read all about how not to be allergic to fall this year

Have a wonderful Fall Equinox!
We will have our pumpkin chai at the farmers market tomorrow!

This project encourages volunteers and the public to make and share observations on rocky shores, sandy beaches, dunes, and near-shore estuaries all along the Oregon coast while learning how to use iNaturalist. This event was inspired by Snapshot Cal Coast, where for two weeks every year starting in June, the California Academy of Sciences mobilizes and organizes partners along the California coast to make and share observations of as many species as possible to build an annual snapshot of biodiversity along the California coast.
Create a free iNaturalist account and find our project, “CoastWatch Fall Challenge 2022” (www.inaturalist.org/projects/coastwatch-fall-challenge-2022). When the challenge begins, go to the coast, take pictures of all the species you observe, and use iNaturalist’s image recognition software to help you identify them. iNaturalist is available as a free app and accessible through any web browser.
Two participants will earn a Pacific 2023 Northwest Tidelog—prizes will go to whoever submits the most observations and the individual who observes the highest number of species throughout the challenge.
For more information about the event or CoastWatch, contact Jesse Jones, CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator, at (503) 989-7244, jesse@oregonshores.org.

Heather Christie has been a friend of mine for years.
I’ve always loved her voice and her songs. They are full of emotion and a wild hopefulness that love will conquer all.
If you haven’t heard her live you are in for a real treat.
We only sell 20 tickets to these intimate outdoor shows and they are always magical.
100% of proceeds go to the artist. It’s our way of supporting live music after the pandemic made it so hard for artists to perform.
This time the show is starting it early so you can enjoy the fall sunshine and drive home before it gets dark.
Our tea room will be open before the show and during intermission pouring complimentary blends!

Join Ben Rosenberg as he introduces the principles and practices of creating monoprints and monotypes. Monotype is a distinctive print made by pressing paper against a painted or inked surface. When creating a monotype, it cannot be replicated again. It is a highly individual creation, much like painting, as it allows for spontaneity, “happy accidents,” and working along a plate surface to bring a wide range of marks that can be obtained through the creation of an image.
Topics include basic theory and use of color and composition in working with water-based, mixed media, and a variety of surfaces. This workshop will involve both conceptual approaches and direct observations using still life, the figure, abstract composition, and a variety of student investigative resources.
You will explore various monotype styles, techniques, and media used with rollers, stencils, textured surfaces, brushes, and various inventive wiping tools to create unusual one-of-a-kind prints.
Through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and printing time, participants will develop a command of the technical aspects of monotypes and monoprints (color mixing, paint application, materials), and the properties of creating an image (line and shape, color concept, composition, abstraction) and an understanding of how formal choices create meaning.
Each day will begin with a lecture and discussion, followed by an afternoon for studio time. This class is a place where you can engage your own artistic interest and explore your personal voice.

That’s been my motto this year.
If you don’t like what you see out there then create what you do want and share it with your friends.
If enough of us keep creating eventually we will move the needle towards more love, peace and healing in this community we’re a part of.
So to celebrate the upcoming Fall Equinox I called up three of my favorite creative women. Each of them dedicated to making the world more beautiful through their art, magic and music.
Together we’re hosting a welcome back for the rains and the salmon, to long nights and cozy tea times, with an event honoring the power of our dreams.
I hope you can join us!

Heart of Cartm is leading a litter cleanup along the Nehalem River and Nehalem Bay. We chose this area for a litter clean up because any roadside litter (accidental and intentional) immediately blows into the water where it becomes more costly to remove and a greater hazard to wildlife. Keeping this area clean is CRITICAL to the health of our beautiful ecosystem.
Whether you travel this scenic route every day for work or you are dreaming of coming here on your next road trip with the family camper, its up to each of us to keep it healthy. Walking this route is THE BEST way to savor the beauty, so let’s walk it together while cleaning!
