Happy Fall Equinox!

It’s the Fall Equinox today!

A time to pause with a nice cup of chai and reflect on what’s unfolded over the past 9 months of 2022. Take your time. It’s been a lot!

When I was a kid my mom brought me into to see an expensive allergy doctor because I was constantly having ear aches and runny noses.

I remember the doctor putting on a cartoon to distract me while he pulled out what seemed like endless trays of allergy test needles.

As soon as I saw the needles I started to bawl. I must have been about 5 years old and it’s a memory that seared into my little brain.

After that awful jabby appointment, the doctor came back with the grand diagnosis of “She’s allergic to the changing of the seasons”.

My mom was so angry about that- and I was too! I mean poking me with a hundred needles just to tell me I’m allergic to weather?

I’ve been thinking about this lately because as an adult I realize I actually am extra sensitive to the turning of the seasons- we all are.

It’s something that ancient healing traditions around the world paid close attention to before there were artificial lights and cell phones to distract us from what nature is doing.

As we hustle along in this culture of information overwhelm, it’s easy to forget that the Fall Equinox stands like a big yellow road sign on the calendar reading “Slow Down”.

I happen to be really bad at slowing down- and if you are too, I hope this list of 8 ancient wellness practices for fall will help you take care of yourself as the season shifts.

When nature undergoes a rapid and massive shift in energy (fall and spring) we humans we most definitely are affected.

The good news is that part of staying healthy and grounded in the fall includes lots of lovely sleep and deliciousness- including pumpkin, spice and chai. (look for that back on our fall menu next week!)
