Chakradance Awakening Series Starts May 13th

Submitted By: Christy@cosmichealingnw.com – Click to email about this post
Hello!
Did you know that often, especially during times of stress, our emotions can become stuck energy in our physical bodies. These energies can lead to illness if not addressed. Counseling and other tools may not effectively bring them to the surface for release.
Chakradance is a fun and productive way to bring your awareness inward, to connect the inner world with your outer world for change and growth. Chakradance uses guided moving meditation with specific frequency music to engage your unconscious blocks to healing, and ends with mandala art to creatively bring the unconscious into physical form reinforcing this process of self awareness, balancing your emotional, spiritual and physical health.
The next 9-week Awakening series will meet on Saturdays, starting May 13th, at 9AM, at Rising Hearts Studio in Nehalem. Total cost of all 9 weeks is $333- payment options available. I am limiting this group to 5 souls who are ready for some big shifts!
Please call, email, or text for more information.
Here is a link to an article I wrote that explains Chakradance in more detail. www.tillamookcountypioneer.net/?s=chakradance

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Astoria author Marianne Monson will discuss her new novel, “The Opera Sisters,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 in the Cannon Beach Library.
“The Opera Sisters” is based on the true story of the true story of sisters Ida and Louise Cook, who, on the eve of World War II, used their passion for opera to attempt the daring rescue of Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany.
A review of the novel says the story is about “ordinary women (who) find their inner strength, engaged in determined, clandestine actions to give others hope.”
Monson is the author of other works dealing with women’s history, including “Frontier Grit: The Unlikely Stories of Daring Pioneer Women,” and “Women of the Blue and Gray: True Stories of Mothers, Medics, Soldiers, and Spies of the Civil War.”
She also wrote “Her Quiet Revolution: a Novel of Dr. Martha Hughes Cannon, Frontier Doctor and First Female State Senator.”
Her nonfiction book, “Frontier Grit,” was nominated for the American Library Association’s Amelia Bloomer award. The companion volume, “Women of the Blue and Gray,” was awarded a silver medal by Foreword Reviews.
Monson holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and has taught writing at Portland Community College, BYU Hawaii, Clatsop Community College and Texas State University. She is founder and president of a literary nonprofit, The Writer’s Guild.
Monson’s presentation is sponsored by the Cannon Beach Library’s NW Authors Series Committee. The committee hosts an author every month from September through May and presents the Writers Read Celebration in March.

Upcoming Class at Hoffman: Elements of Visual Design, with Ben Rosenberg

Submitted By: i.downes-leguin@hoffmanarts.org – Click to email about this post
No art background necessary. All materials will be supplied. Class starts next week–sign-up today!
hoffmanarts.org/events/an-introduction-to-the-elements-of-visual-design

Let’s go on a creative journey exploring line, shape, value, form, negative/positive space, color, texture, and balance. We will learn why these elements are important principles in visual communication. This will be an engaging art class that will help you develop a design vocabulary and introduce you to the skills necessary to make design decisions from an informed perspective.
With this knowledge you will increase your ability to express your artistic ideas.

Count on a hands-on, participatory class where you will work on paper through drawing, painting, and collage. We will develop knowledge of compositional strategies for various project goals: unity, variety, rhythm, harmony, tension, gravity, and more. We will learn to use and control negative space. We will develop an understanding of the color wheel and common color schemes in design.

Experimentation is essential! Art is a philosophical enterprise that seeks questions as often as it provides answers. We will introduce historical notions of form and content regarding the picture plane, vision and visuality, and the role of the artist. Being able to think about and discuss your work critically is an absolute necessity; this will become easier with practice. Group discussion will build a dialog within the class and help to create skills for talking about art.
