News update from the Nehalem Bay Health District

Submitted By: marc@nehalembayhd.org – Click to email about this post
Design for New Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy Goes to City of Wheeler for Review

Health District Project Reaches Important Milestone

(Wheeler) – The design package for the new Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy has been delivered to the city of Wheeler in advance of the city Planning Commission’s consideration on December 7, 2023. The submittal marks a key milestone in the development of the project designed to enhance local health care and pharmacy services in north Tillamook County.

In conjunction with the design documents the Health District has applied for several city permits. On December 7, architects for the Health District will appear before the Wheeler Planning Commission to review the design and answer questions. The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Wheeler City Hall and members of the public can attend in person or virtually with a meeting link and other information available on the city’s website: www.ci.wheeler.or.us/…/december-planning

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the city of Wheeler on this vital and exciting project,” said Marc C. Johnson, president of the Health District board. “Our board is committed to addressing the health and senior care needs of the community and we very much appreciate the city’s review of the plans and the many details that must be successfully addressed.”

In May, Health District voters approved a $10.25 million general obligation bond measure to help finance the new construction. The ballot measure received nearly 70% support from voters.

The new Health Center will consist of an approximately 16,000 square foot, two story building that will replace the existing Nehalem Bay Health Center (the former Rinehart Clinic) that is currently housed in a much smaller building on Rowe Street in Wheeler. The new facility will feature more exam rooms, a dental suite, a much larger pharmacy, facilities to accommodate specialty medical services, meeting space and improved staff facilities. The Health District owns the proposed site of the new Health Center at U.S. Highway 101 and Hospital Road in Wheeler.

The design review application notes that the property, approximately 1.3 acres, has the proper zoning classification – General Commercial – and will accommodate parking for patients and staff in keeping with the city’s requirements.

Completion of the design review will move the project toward permitting with both the city and Tillamook County. Current timelines anticipate construction to commence in mid-2024.

2023 Tillamook County Giving Guide and Tillamook Organizations Directories

Submitted By: barbaraandchuck@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post

Fulcrum Community Resources and the Tillamook County Pioneer are pleased to announce that the 7th annual 2023 Tillamook County Giving Guide is in your mailbox! (If you haven’t received one a list of where you can pick one up will be provided soon. Or check the recycling boxes at your post office!)

Here is the online link to the Guide at the Tillamook County Pioneer:

https://www.tillamookcountypioneer.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Giving-Guide_2023_for_Web.pdf

This year’s guide features profiles of over 45 Tillamook County organizations, a free listing of more than 120 organizations and “Tree of Life” paintings from the Sitka Center’s Youth Program.

Please take the time to check out the guide as Tillamook County is fortunate to call home many organizations that work hard to improve the lives of all its inhabitants. We hope this information will encourage you to support with your dollars and your time, these vitally important organizations. Your generosity is needed and appreciated. And they need our support to continue to make a difference.

Also please check out the full Tillamook County Organizations alphabetical and categorized Directories on the Local Resources page of www.northcoastbbq.com. Besides the contact information provided in the free Giving Guide listing, the Directories include key personnel, mission statements and more information about the organizations.

By making your year-end giving donations locally, you are helping to foster community connections through these organizations and to keep your money circulating here at home.
They impact all aspects of our lives, from health and wellness, sustainability, environmental stewardship, conservation, food security, housing, universal access, women’s issues, children’s well-being, animal welfare, education, and arts and culture, to create a strong and vibrant community. They collaborate and form partnerships which build a culture of efficiency, cooperation and communication. They provide jobs, a trained and inclusive workforce, volunteer opportunities, internships, and training. They give us opportunities to connect, heal and play.

Thank you to all those who have donated, discovered and volunteered in past years!

As a Fulcrum board member said as we were proof reading the guide, “Reading about the groups in the Guide warmed the cockles of my heart!”

A CHRISTMAS STORY:
Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the late 1930s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas.

Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more.

A Christmas Story, a theatrical holiday treat!
Directed by Frank Squillo
