February @ Buttercup Homemade Ice Creams & Chowders

Submitted By: juliebuttercup22@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
We’re planning some special events this month. We learned alot from our last event so thanks for your support and patience while we figure out the logistics! More details to come…

We’ve decided to stick with only 3 days open this month, especially since we’re planning on doing these special dinners so that means we’ll be open Friday, Saturday, 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We also were only open for 2 weeks in January due to a Covid situation as well as that horrible ice storm so we’ve decided to keep the chowders for February. We’re changing a few ice creams out to honor Valentine’s Day, a birthday girl’s special ice cream and a collaboration w/Oregon Seaweed and Winter Waters PNW. Here they are as well as the rest from January menu:

ICE CREAMS

Pink Velvet…red berries, cream cheese, marshmallow cream, yummy on poppyseed cone

Burnt Chocolate on salted almond cone

Marshmallow on chocolate-dipped graham cracker cone

Gjetost on brown butter cone…this is for my long-time friend Diane who introduced me to this Norwegian dessert cheese and convinced me to make an ice cream out of it to great success! Happy Birthday Diane!!!

Sweet Potato Dulce on rice flour cone…this is the collaboration, a weird yet interesting flavor w/ube (purple sweet potatoes), custard and fresh dulce

Coconut Caramel (vegan) on vanilla vegan-gluten-free cone

Orange Creamsicle Sorbet (vegan) on vanilla vegan-gluten-free cone

We also have frozen Banana Pops w/chocolate and peanuts as well as Tiramisu Semifreddo in our ice cream case plus ice cream sands and choco-tacos in our grab n go (as long as they last!)

CHOWDERS (same as January)

NW Clam
Thai Red or Green Curry
Cajun Chicken & Andouille Sausage
South Indian

We make a dynamite organic green salad w/goat cheese, toasted hazelnuts and pear vinaigrette

We make all our own drinks so check them out!!!

We’ll have more info about next dinner soon. Mark your calendar for February 8th! Our whole building is getting into the game too so we’re super excited about it!

Oregon Supreme Court upholds Measure 113

Submitted By: genedieken@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
This measure now disqualifies our Oregon State Senator Suzanne Weber of Tillamook (along with nine other Republicans) from running for election again.

As a reminder, Constitutional Meas. 113 passed by 68.32% so there really can’t be any chirping about a partisan conspiracy of the left (or any other group). By any definition of democracy, it’s the will of the people.

It’s shocking the kind of obeisance the modern GOP commands in its bonkers attempt to implement authoritarian rule at all levels.

1 year old sister dogs need new home

Loving home needed for two sister dogs, about one year old. Great Pyrenees mix (we think). Super friendly, good with other dogs and kids. They do jump up so they will require some training. They’re super sweet and would love a home where they can get lots of exercise and access to the outdoors.

They were abandoned by a renter in our neighborhood and deserve better.
Free to a good home.

Yin Yoga and Sound Bath Series Starts Next Week in Manzanita!

Submitted By: aprilclarkyoga@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Our relaxing yin yoga and sound healing series (5 weeks) is just a week away, and there are only 3 spaces left. If you are interested in joining our small group Monday nights from 5pm-6:30pm for some deep nervous system nourishment, I recommend signing up soon!

I’m only letting 6 people join this series, (plus a max of 2 drop-ins per session), so that we have plenty of space to spread out in the sweet little Yoga Roots studio in Manzanita (above Wild). The series rate is $111 ($22 per class), and drop in is $33 per class — so if you can join us for the full series it’s a pretty good discount.

Details below or on my website www AprilClarkYoga.com.

The heart of winter is a time for soft inward-reflection. Rejuvenate your nervous system, reset your energy centers, and drop into ease each week in this 5-session series on MONDAY evenings.

We’ll move through relaxing, passive yin shapes paired with sound healing via singing bowls, crystal harp, drumming and chimes. Deepen into this self-healing, energy-balancing weekly practice.

In yin yoga we spend several minutes in each shape, using gravity paired with body weight and breath to gradually expand the connective tissue (fascia and ligaments). This slowing down invites the parasympathetic nervous system to bring the body into its natural balance. Yin yoga can also improve circulation, increase range of motion, and help prevent injury.

The frequencies of sound healing interact with the energy centers of the body. Sound healing can also slow the brainwaves into a restorative state, further activating the body’s self-healing mechanisms.

These two practices paired together are a luxurious recipe to renew and rebalance the mind, body and spirit.

Note: If pricing is limiting for you, please reach out. I am open to trades and/or offering sliding scale pricing options as needed. No questions asked.

THE FUTURE OF THE JETTY CREEK WATERSHED
A Discussion with Chuck Willer

Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00 pm

St. Mary by the Sea (Parish Building)
275 S. Pacific St., Rockaway Beach, OR 97136
(online zoom also available, see below)

Doors open at 1:30 pm for light refreshments and pizza!

Coastal drinking watersheds are in peril. Recently, Jetty Creek and other coastal watersheds have experienced water shortages that are not due to lack of rain alone. Science now shows that forestry practices such as clear-cut logging and pesticides spraying can damage the quantity and quality of drinking water. Like other coastal communities, Rockaway Beach is now looking to acquire and manage its Jetty Creek watershed. To help us all understand what this entails, the NORTH COAST COMMUNITIES FOR WATERSHED PROTECTION is offering a three-part speaker series, SAFEGUARDING AND RESTORING DRINKING WATERSHEDS, supported by funding from the City of Rockaway Beach. This is the first event of the series.

You need not RSVP to attend, but it will help us plan if you do. Please go to healthywatershed.org to RSVP for in-person or online attendance. PLEASE JOIN US!

Saving the country is beyond my reach, but just maybe we can find a way for us in this small community to at least feel a little better about each other. With that in mind, I’m starting an “On a Tuesday”* virtual coffee meeting on zoom to talk about politics and problems. I don’t want to change anybody’s mind, I just want to make talking to each other a little easier.
Here’s the zoom invitation for a get-together that will happen each Tuesday at 9AM. us06web.zoom.us/j/84103160731?pwd=dDjC6hUH1NzQb4biwrQxYeUK46l8Xz.1 For those who find the morning hour impossible, there will also be a 7PM meeting each Tuesday and here is the invitation for that one , us06web.zoom.us/j/86525693062?pwd=QRP6GiOQ4bK4NYutb5cIDgtLiv1e6G.1
I’ll be the host and all I will require is civility and that no one speaks for more than 5 minutes as a stretch. As the host, I will have the ability to mute or remove disruptive influences.
If zoom is not your thing, discussion is always welcome at codger817@gmail.com.
