Dan Haag, Trails & Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for Tillamook County Visitors Association, is hosting four listening and engagement sessions throughout Tillamook County in late April and early May. These sessions seek to gather community input on countywide needs for facilities and trails: Where do we need more restrooms, public parking, and garbage receptacles? What trails need to be improved or connected? How can the county improve recreational access for all abilities?
The dates and locations for each are as follows:
Nehalem – NCRD Gallery, Monday, April 25 at 6 pm.
Rockaway Beach – Rockaway Community Center, Wednesday, April 27 at 6 pm.
Tillamook – Tillamook Bay Community College, Room 101. Monday, May 2 at 6 pm.
Pacific City – Kiwanda Community Center, Faye Jensen Hall. Tuesday, May 3 at 6 pm.
Light refreshments will be offered.
If you’d like to provide input and can’t attend any of these dates, please email Dan Haag at dan@tillamookcoast.com.

The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and Mindy Claflin of Nehalem was inspired to start a group fundraiser. At the Tillamook Headlight Herald Home and Garden Show next weekend, they will offer more than 5 different types of sunflower seedlings at $2 each. The seedlings include the American Giant Hybrid, which can grow to 14-16 feet high, as well as smaller types such as Dwarf Teddy Bear and Dwarf Sunspot, which are container varieties.
A beautiful 3-dimensional sunflower wall quilt created and donated by Michelle Vinciguerra of Neahkahnie will be offered as a silent auction item. Bids start at $300, with increments of $25. You may call in a bid now to Terri Maragos at (503) 368-5203 or at helidoni@nehalemtel.net if you want to get a head start. The quilt is valued at $750. “Sunflowers for Ukraine” will also feature T-shirts, stickers, buttons, bracelets and other small items.
The Home and Garden Show is at the fairgrounds in Tillamook Sat. April 30, 9-4 and Sun. May 1, 11-4. Entrance and parking are free.
All proceeds from the booth will go directly to the Ukraine campaign of the nonprofit Save the Children. The team ID# is TRT-4128, “Sunflowers for Ukraine.” With that ID on the memo line, checks can also be sent directly to Save the Children, PO Box 97132, Washington DC 20090. This is a highly rated charity which has been operating in Ukraine since 2014.
Please plan to join us at the upcoming show. We’ll be glad you did!

Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS has been a captain for our local cleanup with several great partners including Tillamook County Parks Department, Netarts-Oceanside Fire District, and Oregon State Parks for over a decade. Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS members and our partners have been working with SOLVE to host cleanups in the area from Cape Lookout to Cape Meares to Bay Ocean for over a decade. Join us this year to help continue this long legacy of stewardship for our bay and ocean.
This beach cleanup is family-friendly! Whether you are up for getting muddy, hiking to more remote spots, or looking to share your love for our coast and the value of volunteering with your family – we have a spot for you! We recommend bringing a bucket, work gloves, and gear to keep you comfortable outdoors. If needed, bags and gloves are available free of charge to all volunteers.
Remember our ocean shores can be dangerous. Avoid logs in the water. Keep your distance from marine mammals, and never turn your back on the ocean! If you find any hazardous material, please alert your Beach Captain. Bring a buddy, stay safe and have fun!
