Special Request From Library Friends

Submitted By: jenna.edginton@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
North Tillamook Library Friends is in need of a new space for sorting, pricing and storing books and supplies for our Annual Book Sale. We have received notice that the property where our current sorting room is located is on the market to be sold. If the Annual Book Sale, which has been a fixture in our community for over 20 years, is to continue we need to find new space for continuing our volunteer work.

The sale provides approximately $7,000 to $8,000 per year to support the maintenance of the North Tillamook Library in Manzanita.

We have been fortunate for more than 10 years to find space that was free or required only the payment of the electrical bill. Library Friends might be able to pay a some amount for rent if we find a suitable replacement space.

We need approximately 700 square feet. That can be in one, two or three rooms in the same building, as long as one room is large enough to accommodate the sorting work tables; there are 6 tables that are 8 feet long. The space needs to be dry and have electricity. We have heaters and a dehumidifier in order to keep the books in optimum condition for the sale.

Ideally, we are looking for space in the Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler area in order to have easy access for volunteers who sort and price the books and annually, for the volunteers who move the books to the book sale sites.

If you have such space or know of such space, you could be a lifesaver for our Library. Please contact Madeline Olson at allanmadeline@aol.com.

Thank you for your consideration.

Reply to “Voters with several homes

In response to “Voters with several homes”

If you are a multiple home owner please be careful with your decision of primary residence for voter registration pursuant to ORS 247.035. Due to a flurry of emotional posts misadvising about this recently, I contacted our state representatives and state elections officials as to clarification on this issue.

The following two emails are an answer to the question of voter registration in Oregon for anyone who owns multiple houses.

Thank you for your note, Gerald,
In simple, layman’s terms, the answer is “no”. Just because you are fortunate enough to own more than one property, you cannot change your voting “residence” without good reason. There is a principal place where you live. And that is where you vote.
ORS 247.035 states in part, “A person shall not be considered to have gained a residence (for voting purposes) in any location in this state into which the person comes for temporary purposes only, without the intention of making it the person’s home.” In determining voting residency, the statute states an election official may consider:
Where the person receives personal mail;
Where the person is licensed to drive;
Where the person registers motor vehicles for personal use;
Where any immediate family members of the person reside;

During a recent election in Lincoln County, the Clerk contacted people who had recently registered in Lincoln County but who asked to have ballots mailed outside the county. He asked for proof of local residency. Most subsequently asked to withdraw their registration change.

See www.newportnewstimes.com/news/clerk-to-verify-residency-for-recent-voter-registrations/article_cb41fce6-2d2b-11ec-a1e2-0b1417dc3e12.html

Ultimately, the County Clerk decides the validity of local electors.
I hope you find this helpful.
Warm Regards,
David “

Good morning Gerald,
Thank you for your emails regarding residency and voting. A person may register to vote using an address at which they have established residency. You correctly identify ORS 247.035 as the source for factors that an elections official may use to determine whether a person has established residency. Under ORS 247.035(1)(c) a person is not considered to have gained residency at a location where the person comes for temporary purposes only. Elections officials have the discretion to investigate such matters when the legitimacy of a voter’s residency is called into question.

Best regards,

still looking for a kitten

Submitted By: babbles@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
my search for a female kitten to be a companion to my one-year-old cat has so far turned up nothing. it’s likely the time of year. spring would have been better.

i would like a black, or almost all black, or brown, or dark grey, or tortoiseshell female kitten.

are there any out there that would like to come live with me in an indoor-outdoor home (which precludes the tillamook animal shelter) with another sweet, gentle cat?

my previous cat lived to be 18 years old. they have a good life here on my hill.

Sweet cat needs a loving home

Submitted By: cat.earp@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
This sweet cat has been hanging around my home, had kitties in my garage, and then I got her spade at the Nehalem Vet. She is so loving and sweet but I can not keep her and winter is approaching. Maybe she is your cat or you would like to own her. She is good with the cat I already own.
Please give her a home.

Lance and Tammi (of the Waldron Dairy and Lance’s Farm Vittles) recently lost their hay barn to a fire. Insurance will only cover a portion of the cost of rebuilding. They are working hard to make repairs so they can put up hay this winter and continue to care for their animals.
Lance and Tammi have given much to our community by producing healthy local food and serving in leadership roles with area non-profits, including the North Coast Land Conservancy and the White Clover Grange.

This is our opportunity to give something back to a wonderful farm family who helps keep us deliciously fed!
In gratitude for your support, the White Clover Grange will host a feast featuring Lance’s Farm Vittles this fall.

You must be located in the Nehalem Bay region to sign up for this class.

Yellow Radio program is neighbors using small walkie-talkie type radios to communicate locally within their neighborhoods. Yellow Radios will allow neighbors to communicate about news, needs, and available local resources.

Communication is one of the most important components of emergency preparedness and response. In many emergencies, especially a major earthquake and tsunami like the anticipated Cascadia Subduction Zone event, usual communication pathways like landlines, cell phones, and the internet will be unavailable.

Register for a Yellow Radio class where you will learn how to operate your radio and communicate effectively in your neighborhood. Classes are also a great way to refresh your skills.
