New Spring Donut!

Submitted By: Pacificrootscoffee@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello from Pacific Roots Coffee + Mini Donuts!
We’ve got a lovely new little seasonal donut on offer for the next few weeks: Honey Lime Cream! It’s bright and tangy and creamy and a little like Key Lime Pie. Come by this weekend, Thurs-Sun 9-2, to try it along with our other fabulous donuts. Best enjoyed with a hot cup of coffee and a sunny seat by the river – Spring at its finest! Located behind Buttercup, right next to Riverside Fish and Chips (two fantastic food destinations as well).

FREE PLASTIC TOTE

Purple Sterilite plastic tote 30”x20”x15” is yours for the asking. It is covered and perfectly clean inside. Cover – which fits tightly – could use a wipe down. Call (503) 368-5203 or contact by email using the above link. Just too big and heavy for me when it’s loaded.

MANZANITA DAY COUNTDOWN BEGINS!

Submitted By: ketzel.levine@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
BY MAYORAL PROCLAMATION, 2020!

March 31st is Manzanita Day, when we celebrate our namesake shrub. This year, the Hoffman Center’s Horticultural Arts program contracted with Xera Plants to provide\ dozens and dozens of “The Plant That Spells Home”.

SHOP FOR MANZANITAS AT THE HOFFMAN!
Friday, March 31st at 11am inside the Hoffman Center

We’ll be selling a wide range of manzanita species, from ground covers to small trees (in 5-7 years, anyway). We won’t leave you guessing; volunteers will be on hand to make sure you’re on a first-name basis with the plants you bring home.

But know this about all our manzanitas: they want full sun, fast drainage, absolutely no fertilizer and after their first summer, no supplemental water. Provide them with these basics (gravel mulch also appreciated) and you’ve THE recipe for success.

Also on sale: native wildflowers! Blues, purples, whites, pinks, yellows! That’s about as specific as we can get right now; it all depends on what germinates and looks irresistible by Manzanita Day. Guaranteed, irresistible they will be.

But wait! There’s more to this year’s Manzanita Day celebration. After blowing your plant budget in the morning, we’re hoping the afternoon will blow your mind.

Celebrated NW photographer David Perry will kick off a year-long Hoffman Center series whose time has come: Gardening in a Changing Climate. Perry’s an incredibly thoughtful and charismatic speaker whose talk may sway audience gardeners to reevaluate how and why they garden.

Dreaming of baseball and girls, young Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley.

Meet the Director: Vicki Haker

Vicki is directing her first play with Riverbend Players after acting as Assistant Director in three previous productions.
A retired English and Drama teacher, Vicki moved to Manzanita with her husband John in 2018 and loves the people and natural beauty of the area.

Vicki volunteers at the Wheeler Clothing Bank and loves cooking (and eating), reading, and hiking.

Another Candidate for the NCRD Board

Submitted By: Constanceforncrd@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I find it very exciting and inspiring being the 3rd person, not on the board, who has filed!

Yes I am! I have filed to run for the NCRD Board and you may want to know why I say I’m the one? Please join me for one of my weekly coffee chats beginning this Saturday and every Saturday through 5/13 at the Manzanita Library from 3:45-4:45. Come and find out why I am asking for your vote for the NCRD Board in May. I am looking forward to your questions, concerns and conversations.

Even more important! Please come to the NCRD Board meeting TONIGHT at 6pm, or go to www.ncrd.org for the zoom link. Please do not allow complacency to creep in, your eyes and voice matter! This is a critical meeting about the future OR NOT of our pool and the bond measure we voted for.
