Upcoming Class at Hoffman: Elements of Visual Design, with Ben Rosenberg

Starts TOMORROW April 19, 2023 at The Hoffman Center For The Arts! Few spots are available!

No art background necessary. All materials will be supplied. Class starts this week–sign-up today!
hoffmanarts.org/events/an-introduction-to-the-elements-of-visual-design
Let’s go on a creative journey exploring line, shape, value, form, negative/positive space, color, texture, and balance. We will learn why these elements are important principles in visual communication. This will be an engaging art class that will help you develop a design vocabulary and introduce you to the skills necessary to make design decisions from an informed perspective.
With this knowledge you will increase your ability to express your artistic ideas.
Count on a hands-on, participatory class where you will work on paper through drawing, painting, and collage. We will develop knowledge of compositional strategies for various project goals: unity, variety, rhythm, harmony, tension, gravity, and more. We will learn to use and control negative space. We will develop an understanding of the color wheel and common color schemes in design.
Experimentation is essential! Art is a philosophical enterprise that seeks questions as often as it provides answers. We will introduce historical notions of form and content regarding the picture plane, vision and visuality, and the role of the artist. Being able to think about and discuss your work critically is an absolute necessity; this will become easier with practice. Group discussion will build a dialog within the class and help to create skills for talking about art.

6:30 PM – opening circle/dance set
8:00 PM – closing circle

$10 cash check or venmo/paypal
(kids are welcome to dance for free)

Dance Etiquette/tips:
*All are welcome–no experience needed.
*Bring a water bottle and layers.
*Bring kindness and respect for yourself and others and your willingness to explore and to dive into the ecstasy of spirit available through movement.
*No outside shoes on the dance floor if possible (dirty floors aren’t fun to roll around on)

We dance every Thursday…Hope to dance with you soon

to all,

my understanding is that one reason voter turn-out in may elections is so low is that very often there are very few candidates. many board positions have one person running for a particular position, or even none.

THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT!
these districts below have multiple contenders. YOUR vote matters!
Tillamook County Transportation District
Tillamook Bay Community College
Neah-kah-nie School District
North County Recreation District
Nehalem Bay Health District

because i live in north county, i named only north county boards and county-wide boards where there are multiple candidates.

anyone can go to the tillamook county website “may 2023 special election” and learn who are the candidates running for their local boards.

THIS IS AN ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT YEAR TO VOTE.

The second rule of Write Club- anyone can join!

Submitted By: revolutionginger@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Write Club is an open call to anyone who wants to nurture their inner writer this year!

We gather near the new moon each month with snacks, pens and paper.

If you’ve been wanting to write more but just never find time in your life to make it happen- Write Club can help!

A small group of us get together to write for an hour or more. We leave time at the end to share our work (optional) and ask for feedback (also optional).

A prompt is offered if you need inspiration- but it can also be ignored if you want to work on your own thing.

You’ll be amazed what you can create in an hour when you’re in a dedicated writing space!

Please join us. The world needs your words!

“Bears Revenge” is a framed piece of original artwork from Don Osborne, who had a studio/gallery in Underhill Plaza on Manzanita Avenue for a number of years. Locally, he’s well known for creating the series of 4th of July posters for the annual Manzanita parades. I am selling the artwork for $400.
Don, who recently passed away, said he was drawn to the honesty, respectfulness, humor and irony of indigenous peoples’ approach to art and truth. The images he made are his “gifts” to viewers. There is an informative online article about his background, education and internationally exhibited artwork in The Daily Astorian, 6-7-06.
Framed piece is 15″x12″; print is 10-1/2″x8-1/4″.
Please email for additional information and to arrange to see artwork. Thank you.

Join me this Wednesday (4/19) from 6-6:45 pm, next to the Rice & Shine in Wheeler and find out why you want to vote for me to be your representative on the NCRD Board of Directors.

My intention: you will leave with confidence to vote for Constance! You may even want to take a lawn sign!

This is an opportunity for us to connect and for me to find out what’s important to you. I want to address your questions, I want to hear your concerns and I want to know the GAPS you want addressed at the NCRD.

I’ll provide water & cookies, better yet…the Rice & Shine will be open for business, grab some dinner and bring it in!

Real Vermont maple syrup! The harvest is over and Jeff has a new supply – bring your own jar to be filled (glass please – with lid) – increments of: 16 ounce pint ($13) – 32 oz quart ($23) – half-gallon ($43) or full gallon ($83) – or you can buy a NEW jar in pint or quart with syrup for $2 extra. (I WON’T have new jars of the larger size but DO have one full gallon – filled/sealed from the farm for $90.
Bee pollen (two sizes: $11 and $20) will be there + full gallons of OG apple-cider vinegar ($32 which includes the $2 refundable jar deposit when returned clean/with cap) – and a new collection of raw honey from the Blue Mountains along with some other NW selections.
Best to contact Jeff to let him know what you may be looking for so the supply can be planned. Text: 208-424-0042, e-mail: jwmerc@gmail.com – or by instant message through the Jeffrey Warren Facebook page.
