This is a free-flowing dance and movement experience where you are encouraged to dance and enjoy the experience however you’d like with an intention of connecting deeper to yourself and exploring movement without words.
It’s an open space to play, celebrate life, practice embodiment modalities, enjoy music, process emotions, connect with others, and ultimately be nourished by the experience on a physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual level.

“The edge of the solstice,

the barren darkness,

the wheel.

Nature knows that every cycle

must return to stillness and silence.

That every inhale has an exhale.

That every ending births a beginning.

That the light always returns

to a future beyond imagination.”

A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT CELEBRATING ‘A CHRISTMAS STORY’ TRIUMPH!

Submitted By: fsquillo@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post
– Dearest Riverbend Players, friends, and family,
Hold onto your pink bunny suits, folks, because it’s time to shout hallelujahs louder than Ralphie Parker himself! Our A CHRISTMAS STORY production did the near-impossible: it melted the Grinchiest hearts, defied even the stingiest Old Man Winters, and blazed a trail of holiday cheer brighter than a leg lamp in full bloom.
And how do we measure this monumental victory? Well, prepare to have your tinsel socks knocked off:
Biggest Opening Weekend ever! You, our incredible audience, shattered attendance records right out of the gate, proving your love for Ralphie, Randy, and the Parker clan knows no bounds.
Most attended production in Riverbend Players history! That’s right, you pushed that attendance meter higher than Flick on a triple dog dare. We’re talking standing ovations, curtain calls longer than the line for a Red Ryder BB gun, and a packed house every night.
Highest per-show average in our season! You didn’t just come; you came in droves, proving that community theater thrives on your unwavering support.
Our first official sell-out! Thanks to your insatiable appetite for Christmas and Parker family shenanigans, we had to hang the “No Vacancy” sign on Higbee’s window.
Highest revenue for any Riverbend Players production ever! This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about securing our future, funding future productions, and ensuring that the stage lights stay bright in our little corner of the world.
But let’s face it, these records aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. They’re the collective applause of countless theatergoers, the infectious laughter echoing through the aisles, the tears of joy (and maybe a little nostalgia) twinkling in your eyes.
They’re the culmination of months of tireless dedication from our cast, crew, and volunteers, who poured their hearts and souls into bringing this iconic holiday tale to life.
So, from the bottom of our snow globe, overflowing with gratitude, we thank you. We thank you for believing in Riverbend Players, embracing the magic of live theater, and proving that a community united by shared laughter and holiday spirit can achieve anything. Our dear audience, you are the true heroes of this “A Christmas Story” saga.
As we close the curtain on this joyous run, we do so with the warm glow of accomplishment and the promise of even more theatrical magic to come. We can’t wait to share the stage with you again, whether it’s under the summer sun or by the twinkling lights of another holiday season.
Until then, remember to keep dreaming big, hold onto your Leg Lamp dreams, and never let your inner Ralphie fade away.
With heartfelt thanks and holiday cheer,
Frank Squillo President, Board of Directors Riverbend Players Community Theater

Troubles in Manzanita

Submitted By: hildiballard@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Friends and Neighbors,

“If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking”
George S Patton to his troops

The troubling developments of the last few weeks in Manzanita have citizens worried. Our deeply rooted, well-regarded and honorable Mayor felt the need to resign her position, this, subsequent to the resignation of two city councilors this year and the sudden ‘retirement’ of a long term city hall employee. What is going on in Manzanita?

An opaque employee complaint emerged this year and an investigation has been ongoing, for months, with the citizens footing the bill of $139,000.00 and counting. Citizen requests for investigation findings have been stonewalled. If there has been wrongdoing we need to know about it. This investigation is a public record and subject to disclosure. The city council has not been transparent about the issue furthering distrust. Citizens remain in the dark.

My conclusion is that there have been no findings of wrongdoing by the Mayor and the council is covering it up. The power of ugly innuendo has served its purpose resulting with the Mayor’s resignation. Had there been any wrongdoing you can be sure that information would have leaked all over the place. Who is responsible for this expensive mess.?

Our Mayor was elected by hundreds of voters and sought to represent them by asking tough questions. She pushed back on spending matters for which we applaud her. She pushed back on ‘group think’.
The failures of this council to cultivate diversity of opinion is costly. Some seek unity in the community, but unity is built on trust and that trust is absent here.

A minority of loud activists appears to be calling the shots while hundreds of grassroots petition signers have been ignored. It is time to act inclusively and respect and include diverse opinions.

The council has demonstrated a pattern of overlooking smart, experienced citizens to fill vacancies on the council (despite their repeated efforts) and this further erodes trust – goodbye unity.

It is time to root out the anti-diversity, anti-inclusive mindset that dominates the current city council. The damage done so far is enough, the body count too high, the fracturing of the community too sad.

A huge thank you to one and all who have given so much to so many in our community. There are so many grateful families you have helped during this time of year. I just had someone contact me this morning as they had received a couple of fruit gift packs and it seemed there was no way they could eat everything. They are bringing the baskets to me and what is in them will be distributed to those who need a bit of extra help. If you find yourself in this same spot, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. If you need food or if you have some to share call me-503-368-6081. Remember we cannot accept homemade food; it must be packaged by someone with the proper commercial licenses. Again, let’s keep up the good work sharing and caring for others.

IN SEARCH OF A 1970s (OR OLDER) KITCHEN STOVE FOR OUR NEXT PLAY

Submitted By: fsquillo@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post

Hi!
Riverbend Players needs a stove from the 1970s (or older) for our next production.

The popular colors then were avocado green, yellow, and brown, but any color will do. It’s a very Brady Bunch-looking stove.

I’ve attached a picture as an example of what we’re looking for.

It doesn’t have to work; we could return it after production.

If you don’t have one, please ask around for us. We’d appreciate the help!

Thank you, and Happy Holidays!!!
