Calling All Writers: ‘Beach Noir’ is Writers Read Theme

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
“It was a dark and stormy night….”
That may be one way to begin a story, but writers will undoubtedly find many other ways to start their submissions to the Cannon Beach Library’s Writers Read Celebration, with the theme, “Beach Noir.”
In its sixth year, Writers Read offers writers of all ages from everywhere the opportunity to write on a specific theme. All written formats will be considered (essay, story, poetry, haiku, script, etc.). The deadline for submissions is Feb. 2.
Noir fiction often takes place in a dark or foreboding setting, though the tone and descriptions can be unconventional and playful. Other elements may include flashes of humor, flawed underdog characters or a crime scene.
A panel of volunteers will select 10 to 12 works to be read by their authors during the celebration on March 22 in person at the library or via Zoom.
Authors are limited to three entries with a 600-word maximum per entry.
Submissions should be in Word format. Include a separate cover letter with the writer’s name, email and phone number. Please do not include the author’s name or contact information on the entry document so authors remain anonymous to the reading panel.
Email submissions to info@cannonbeachlibrary.org or mail them to P.O. Box 486 Cannon Beach, OR 97110. Email is preferred.
The NW Authors Series Committee sponsors monthly author presentations and other events at the Cannon Beach Library. A recording of last year’s Writers Read Celebration is available on the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org/events-and-programs/recorded-presentations. It also appears on the library’s YouTube page.

1.4.24 Ecstatic Dance: Balance

Submitted By: neahkahniespiritdance@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
~This is a free-flowing dance and movement experience where you are encouraged to dance and enjoy the experience however you’d like with an intention of connecting deeper to yourself and exploring movement without words.
It’s an open space to play, celebrate life and community, practice embodiment modalities, enjoy music, process emotions, connect with others, and ultimately be nourished by the experience on a physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual level. No dance experience necessary~

This week’s dance will be asking us to welcome balance as we settle into these quiet months.
Playlist by Fae

Doors open at 6:00 PM for warmup/setup
6:30 PM – opening circle/dance set
8:00 PM – closing circle

$10 or sliding scale of $5 or $15 to find financial balance 😉
cash check or venmo @FaeScott
(kids are welcome to dance for free)
***Opening the space and Altar work trades available: Contact Fae***

Dance Etiquette/Tips:
*All are welcome – Family friendly events – Come as you are.
*Dance connections are an option, be clear with your yes or no, verbal or nonverbal.
*Flow toys are welcome!
*Bring a water bottle and layers.
*Bring kindness and respect for yourself and others and your willingness to explore and to dive into the ecstasy of spirit available through movement.
*No outside shoes on the dance floor if possible (dirty floors aren’t fun to roll around on)
*Please no strong scents, including most incense, we’ll keep it in the foyer.
*We ask that you limit talking during the dance set. Set up, break time, and the foyer area are great places to have longer conversations to limit distractions for others.
*We are encouraging everyone to be mindful of each other’s safety and health and stay home if you are not feeling well, or have been exposed to someone sick. Follow your own judgment on whether to wear a mask or not.

We dance every Thursday eve and second Sunday mornings…Hope to dance with you soon.
(the Second Thursday evening is a bit more guided with Contemplative Dance Practice led by Reeva)

Lost silky saw and king cage in cb

Submitted By: geraldsroufe@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Rode through Cannon beach today (01/01/24) north end to tolovana and when I finished I realized I had lost a cage holding a saw off my bike. Don’t know when it came loose but I haven’t found it after a quick backtrack.

Pics included of the King Cage Manything Cage and the silky big boy saw for help identifying them but the saw is in a black patched bag strapped to the gold cage.

If anyone comes across them please email me. I use them almost daily and it will be difficult to replace them if they go unfound.

Thanks
Gerry Sroufe

2024 Compost Calendar Scraps to Soil Made this for a friend but she said she didn’t want it See pics

“Compost Calendar”. I made this 2024 “Scraps to Soil” calendar and gave it to a friend but she gave it back and she said she didn’t want to use it! Anyway its a very good idea so now giving it away.

Anyway the idea is like an advent calendar for composting and each month you can see what happens to the scraps….
——“SPOILER” alert——
By December it all turns into
—–SURPRISE—-
nicely composted dirt!!
(Centerfold has some of the “worms” of the year.)

Posting for a “friend”.
