Raffles and kids, plants and sun!

Beside plants, what you can find at the Nehalem Bay Garden Club Plant Sale this Saturday is a raffle and an activity for kids to keep them occupied while you shop. The children’s activity is on Saturday only. The raffle will continue on Sunday with the winners announced at the close of the sale on noon on Saturday.

A new item has been added to the raffle! It’s a crepe myrtle catawba tree, which makes 4 things to choose from. Other raffle items include a basket of garden goodies, an outdoor palm tree and a garden statue. Tickets are $5 each or 6 for $20. Proceeds are donated to local organizations that share the Club’s mission. Pictures are of 3 of the 4 raffle items.

All materials are provided for children to create wee succulent gardens as commitments to Planet Earth and possibly Mothers’ Day gifts. Saturday only.

The sale starts at 10 on Saturday, May 11th and goes until 3pm. On Sunday, May 12th the sale is from 10 to noon. The location is at 43080 North Fork Rd, Nehalem, at the junction of Hwy 53 and North Fork Rd with horse statues in the front yard and real horses in the back yard! Start on North Fork Rd at the blinking light in Nehalem and go 5 miles to the end of N Fork Road. The sale is on the left.

Available at reasonable prices will be all kinds of plants: hanging baskets, planters with colorful flowers, perennials, annuals, vegetables, tomatoes, shrubs, trees, and houseplants among others. Also on offering will be garden related gifts for Mother’s Day or whomever and packets of free flower and vegetable seeds.

We encourage you to pay with cash or check and to round up! From the proceeds, the Club has awarded a total of $12,300 in grants since 2020. Past recipients include Food Roots, Hoffman Gardens, Alder Creek Farm, Tillamook Early Learning Center, Tillamook Chamber Comm Foundation, North County Food Bank, Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church for their food programs, Nehalem Elementary Garden Program, and the mural at Nehalem City Park.

And while you are in the neighborhood, Aldervale Native Plants is having an open house on Saturday, May 11th from 9-4 across the road from the Garden Club sale. 43005 North Fork Rd.

An Autobiography in Five Chapters
by Portia Nelson

Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in. I am lost….I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the side walk.
I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I fall in….it’s a habit…but my eyes are open.
I know where I am. It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter 5
I walk down a different street.

I am in need of an adjustable, padded office stool or chair to use in my pottery space. I sit at a high counter and need something more comfortable that doesn’t cut off blood circulation to my legs! Nothing fancy as it will be covered in clay soon enough. Just needs to be in good working order. You can email me and I will get back to you soon.

Fake OLCC SPYGATE SCAM posted on bbq

Hey bbq’ers. The following post is from May 03, 2024 on bbq. The second part is from the OLCC.
Beware of this scam and the scammer James K.

I’m looking for a few individuals that would be willing to participate in a investigation that I’m conducting for OLCC
(No I’m not affiliated with OLCC)
I’m acting independently
The olcc has asked me to go into a few bars
and collect video evidence of “overserving” and impaired driving.
You will be paid to sit in a bar and collect video evidence
(Don’t worry the cameras are covert)
If you would like to tap into your “spy” abilities
Email me for more info

Good morning Mr. Reid,

My name is Mark Smith. I am the Regional Manager for OLCC who oversees Inspector operations in your area. Your email was forwared to me. I wanted to say, we really appreciate you bring this to our attention. OLCC has no contractors or anyone working on our behalf in your area. In fact, I’m not aware of anyone doing any work like this for OLCC anywhere in the state. We have not asked anyone to look into bars in your area, as this person states.

We do have inspectors who may be operating in your area doing typical compliance checks. However, if we were to conduct an audit operation or an undercover operation like this person is describing, we wouldn’t use a contractor or ask a private person to do it. We would be doing it with our own, duly employed, state certified, and sworn Inspectors who are trained to do this. Additionally, we will not “covertly” record anyone with hidden cameras. It should be noted, depending on reasonable expectation of privacy, recording someone without their knowledge may be illegal and is simply not something OLCC engages in. In fact, we have internal policies which prohibit our employees from recording without another person’s knowledge. So, it stands to reason, we would not be asking a private person or company to do that on our behalf.

I can’t be sure with the information provided but given the nature of the very anonymous looking email and the ask to contact this person, I would be concerned this may be scam. Again, I don’t know that for sure, but this may be something you might want to make your local law enforcement aware of. OLCC’s authority is limited to regulating OLCC licensed premises, meaning we enforce rules attached to licenses issued by OLCC. We have some limited law enforcement authority, but it is limited to liquor related crimes such as Furnishing Alcohol to Minors. Therefore, someone who may be committing a crime such as illegally recording or impersonating a government official, would need to be addressed by a law enforcement officer.

Again, we really appreciate you bringing this to our attention. I will be letting our local inspectors know about this so they may keep an eye out. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email me or call me at the number listed below.

Very Respectfully,

Mark Smith
