A.I. or Russian Troll?
There was a post a couple of days ago citing a youtube post by Sen. Kennedy of Louisiana deploring the state of our Social Security Administration.
I think the odds are very high the cited youtube story a prime example of “fake news’” designed to reduce our faith in our government.
The first thing that jumps out at me is using Sen. Kennedy of Louisiana. I don’t think Sen. Kennedy is a reliable source on anything but getting votes in Louisiana.
The second thing is the use of youtube as a trusted source. Anybody that can type can post on youtube. I see fake articles from both sides of the political spectrum there all the time.
Thirdly, Dixie’s cites Forbes. Forbes is a classic news source, mostly financial. There is such a thing as Forbes Breaking News. When you search Google for Forbes, their site does indeed have a “Breaking News” heading that lists stories that go back months in time. None of those stories mention Sen. Kennedy and social security.
Fourth, 6.5 million 112-year-olds on the rolls? If anybody understands aging it has to be the Social Security Administration. The number is too preposterous to take seriously.
I may be a starry-liberal, but I think this “news” article was planted solely to erode our trust in our government. I think it’s probably bargain basement A.I. Russian trolls would know better than to use the 6.5 million 112-year-olds number.
Maybe Dixie does have uncanny ability to ferret out truth in unlikely places, but I don’t think so. In this case, I think she was duped.
Sincerely,
Jim Heffernan
