This Saturday evening, July 25th, at 9pm some neighbors will gather again to remember Lorenzo and Johan, as well as many other indigenous* men who have been killed by ICE, either through their windshields with bullets paid for by our tax dollars, or while being severely neglected or abused in detention facilities paid for by our tax dollars.
From 9pm-10pm, bring a candle that you can hold to the parking lot at St Catherine’s Church on 101 in Bayside Gardens/Nehalem. We will start with a gentle song or two and then attempt a time of silent reflection on the value of these lost lives and what we can do to stop this culture of terror.
Vigils are happening all over the country on Saturday, but if it is raining this Saturday, we will try again at 9pm on Sunday the 26th.
At this last Sunday’s vigil it was meaningful for some to have real candles with flames, but electric candles and lanterns are also welcome and will be safer if the ground is dry. No signs are needed. If you bring a sign please bring a bright battery powered light to illuminate it.
* I refer to these men as indigenous because their families’ mothers and fathers come from North and South American lands and mine do not. This is a personal definition and I realize that others may not share it.
