Auditioning colors, arranging visual elements, discerning patterns, finally something resonates. The process becomes a meditation. In this fraught time, making and quilting offer a kind of reverie.
You’re invited to see a group of my modern quilts on display July 1 – 30, 2026 at NCRD in the Gallery and Fireside Room. Come by to Meet the Maker Thursday July 9 from 4 pm – 6 pm.
The textile industry is one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. Quilting is not exempt from this cycle of production and consumption. In response, I am shifting my practice toward the use of reclaimed materials—fabrics cut from discarded garments sourced through family, friends, and thrift stores. Several of the quilts shown incorporate recycled men’s shirts, neckties, bed sheets and fabrics thrifted from resale shops. While this is a small gesture, it is part of the movement that’s reimagining waste as resource.
Several quilts are for sale. Proceeds benefit NCRD and the Nehalem Bay Community Services Food Pantry.
