The Friends Foundation at North County Recreation District has launched its summer flower sales. Proceeds will support scholarships for the District’s youth, fitness, and aquatic programs in Nehalem. The foundation has sold flowers for this purpose for more than 15 years, growing from a fundraiser that raised a few hundred dollars annually to one that now brings in several thousand dollars each year. All proceeds are donated to District programs for scholarships. The Friends Foundation thanks the many flower growers, arrangers, and volunteers who help make this fundraiser possible.
In past years, the flower stand has been located outside Manzanita Grocery & Deli in downtown Manzanita. Friends has now added a second location at North County Recreation District in Nehalem. Flowers will be available there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the stand across from the gym door in the upper parking lot. The flowers will be bundled and placed in tin cans. Please take only the flowers and leave the cans; if you need to take a can, please return it.
Flowers will also be available at Manzanita Grocery & Deli Thursday through Sunday. These bouquets will be arranged in vases, and clean vases may be returned to the container next to the display.
Bouquet prices range from $5 to $20, and additional donations are welcome to support the cause. Both the Nehalem and Manzanita stands have lock boxes for payment, and Venmo information is posted at each location.
