Hello Community Friends,
We hope you enjoy this holiday season and are looking forward to the new year.

The goal of the Conscious Aging and Community Connections Program is to bring people in our community together to get to know one another at a deeper level and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives.

For our December program, attendees met in a large circle for a brief group meditation before moving into small groups (of four or five people). The small groups allowed us to hear one another better, and gave us more time to dive deeper into conversations about the topic: Traversing the Edge between Doing and Being. May we each find the courage and freedom to balance whatever we want to Do and Be in our life!

After the December meeting several people told facilitators they appreciated this new format, with one suggestion. They would like to reconvene with the whole group after the small groups have talked, so they can hear a summary of those discussions.

For our January 8th session, we plan to meet briefly in a large circle first, to center ourselves. We will then break into small groups to discuss the topic Creating a Compassionate Community. Before leaving we will connect with the large group again for a short recap of those conversations.

Program facilitators will continue in our efforts to design a format for these meetings to help us awaken to who we are, and to live a life we love.

Please take a few minutes to contemplate what Creating a Compassionate Community means to you. Program facilitators will meet later this week to create questions and find quotes for the Jan. 8 meeting. Another BBQ email will be posted before that meeting so you can ponder the proposed questions and quotes.

As this year comes to an end I hope you will take some time to consider what intention(s) you want to focus your attention on in 2024.

Ask yourself:
What do I feel most grateful for at this time in my life?
What is meaningful to me? What nurtures me? How can I weave more joy into my life?
What depletes me? What do I want to release from 2023?
What would I like to explore in 2024?

Upcoming events:
The first Hoop Dance session will be held Monday, January 22, 4:30-5:30-pm at the NCRD gym. Contact Kathie Hightower for details: kathiejhightower@gmail.com

We have a long list of topics to consider in 2024. If you have suggestions for topics you’d like to explore in this group, please let me know.
