NO KINGS DAY, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, MANZANITA

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
NO KINGS DAY is another big rally being hosted by North County Resistance. Tomorrow, Saturday, October 18, we will be meeting along Hwy. 101 at the top of Manzanita and Laneda Avenues to PROTEST the way our country has lost sight of DEMOCRACY for all of us.

As many of you already know we use these Protests to collect food for our North County Food Bank located in Wheeler. If you can please bring canned or non-perishable food to this event. We will deliver food, cash, or checks to the Food Bank when they are open on Tuesday. Please put your food in your car right now so you don’t forget it.

Our Protest is peaceful, and we want to keep it that way. If you have someone harassing you or bothering you in any way, take your friends and slowly move away from them. Find someone with a bright yellow vest on and explain what is happening. Do not respond to negative remarks or threats. Put some space between you and the problem. Do not try to touch angry people. Please follow the directions of the organizers-people in the yellow vests.

Because we are along Highway 101 we ask you to stay behind the barriers with caution tape on them. We ask you to not park in any of the business parking lots. You can park in the parking lot of the Manzanita City Hall. You can park along Manzanita and Laneda Avenues. Again, not in the business parking lots. If you need a ride from the Manzanita City Hall parking lot, call 503-801-3534 when you arrive and someone will pick you up shortly. We need to keep the corner of where Manzanita Avenue and Hwy. 101 empty so that people driving cars can see around the corners. If you park in this area, you will be asked to move for safety reasons.
Have good spirits and a positive attitude at this rally. We look forward to seeing you between noon and 2 PM.
Thanks, Patty

Saturday, OCT 18th 7:00 p.m. ComedySportz of Portland takes the NCRD Performing Arts Center stage. If you like to laugh – if you like hilarious improv comedy- if you are ready to overcome the deadly inertia of couch potato syndrome – come on over to NCRD and have a great evening of comedy! There will be 8 improv comedians on stage in two teams, acting out audience suggestions, and competing for your votes for which team was the funniest. A referee calls fouls and ensures it is all kept family friendly! ComedySportz has been doing this in Portland for many, many years. They were on our stage back in 2019, and they had the audience laughing till it hurt. Reserved seating (there are still some left) only $25, and general admission is $20. www.tickettomato.com/event/9648 A huge thank you to our primary event sponsor Manzanita Beach Getaway for providing lodging for the group. But wait, there’s more! On Sunday, the 19th, ComedySportz will provide a free (courtesy of NCRD) IMPROV CLASS at 1:00 p.m. Learn how to do improv from the masters!

United Paws’ Cat of the Week: Meet Maggie

Submitted By: Website@unitedpaws.org – Click to email about this post
Meet Maggie, United Paws’ Cat of the Week. The first thing you will notice about Maggie are her bright green eyes set off against her exquisite fluffy brown and tan tabby stripes. Her big round face is like a ball of sunshine. Then you will notice is loud purr and as she moves in to sit on your lap. Maggie loves attention and her bright personality is just beginning to shine in her young life. While still a kitten herself, she gave birth to a healthy litter of babies. Now that her parenting duties are completed and her kittens are off to their own homes, Maggie cannot wait to find a loving home of her own, and maybe recapture some of her own kittenhood.

Maggie is a very outgoing kitty who adores having her silken fur stroked over and over. She gets absolutely wild when she is in play mode, and loves to chase the wand toys.  Once finished hunting she would love to curl up with her person for a little catnap.

Maggie loves to play; batting balls, climbing towers and chasing string toys are all activities she loves. When she is not playing or snuggled on an available lap, you will find Maggie cozied up on padded chair or blanket. Maggie would be an excellent companion animal for someone who loves to cuddle and play, and then cuddle some more.

MAGGIE WOULD BE IDEALLY SUITED TO AN ONLY CAT HOME. She has a dominant, somewhat bossy demeanor and the only cats she will tolerate without frequent altercations are very submissive, easy going, “ok lady, you’re the boss, I’ll get out of your way” types.  A very slow, cautious intro period would also be needed.

To learn more about adoption, please email unitedpawshelp@gmail.com or visit our website at unitedpaws.org.

WHY WE NEED OREON DOGE

Submitted By: dixiedarrow@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
DISCLAIMER: The following article/post is written by a Dixie who does NOT live in Manzanita. I do not have any connection with the very nice lady who owns the wine shop in Manzanita. And aren’t you lucky to have such a nice wine shop right in your own neighborhood!! Be thankful for what you have! I am thankful I don’t have to live amongst morons like y’all, who pester her every time I post something.

This is from @WallStreetApes. On X!

Investigation finds Oregon Democrats allocated $15 million dollars of taxpayer money for lawyers for illegals.

Then another $15 million for down payment assistance on homes for non citizens.

“That’s what Democrats did. — There is no check and balance “
Our taxes are going up to pay for that……………………..?

So while some of our veterans are homeless, and some Oregonians are homeless, and some young Oregon couples cannot afford to buy a home, let alone pay high rent prices – I say, the above information is disgusting!

I welcome immigrants who come into this country legally! These people have gone through the proper process, and waited for their turn to come into this country. The illegals have not waited their turn and they have rudely cut in line. What makes the illegals so attractive to democrats? Or maybe I should say – what makes the illegals so attractive to Antifa and the democrats? That is a question that needs pondering.

Note—the Headwaters trail is uneven and mildly steep in some areas. To access the Headwaters Trail, we will meet at the Neahkahnie Mountain South Trailhead parking lot and walk down from there. Plan to wear shoes with a decent tread and dress for the weather.

‍It’s official — the new NCRD Aquatic Center is open!

Submitted By: justins@ncrdnehalem.org – Click to email about this post
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It’s official — the new NCRD Aquatic Center is open!

After years of planning, fundraising, construction challenges, and extraordinary community support, we are thrilled to announce that our brand-new pool facility is complete and ready to serve the North County community for generations to come.

This moment is far more than a ribbon cutting — it’s the realization of a vision that began nearly a century ago, when the original 1930 pool was built to teach local children how to swim after a tragic loss inspired a community to take action. Today, with the opening of our new pool, that same spirit of caring, collaboration, and determination continues.

From Vision to Reality
In 2021, the community overwhelmingly supported the NCRD Pool Bond Measure, authorizing $8.2 million in funding to replace the aging 90-year-old facility. That vote set this historic project in motion — and you made it happen.

Since then, the District has worked tirelessly with architects, engineers, contractors, and donors to bring the dream to life. What began as a $10 million plan evolved through an era of inflation, supply-chain challenges, and rising construction costs. Thanks to additional fundraising, private donations, foundation support, and a bridge loan, we were able to secure the remaining funds needed to see the project through to completion.

Today, our state-of-the-art aquatic center features a modern lap pool, a warm-water therapy pool, efficient mechanical and HVAC systems, and enhanced accessibility features — all designed with the health, safety, and enjoyment of our community in mind.

A True Community Effort
This project is, at its heart, a story about you — the people of North County. From the bond voters and donors who contributed financially, to the volunteers, local partners, and staff who gave their time and energy, every piece of this facility reflects the generosity and dedication of this community.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to:
• The voters of North County, whose approval of the bond made this dream possible.
• The Friends of NCRD Foundation, whose tireless fundraising efforts bridged crucial funding gaps.
• Our anonymous and named donors, including organizations like the Mudd Nick Foundation, Autzen Foundation, JTMF Foundation, Tillamook County and Adventist Health Tillamook, for their extraordinary generosity.
• Our design and construction partners, including the Klosh Group, Par-Tech Construction, and the many contractors and tradespeople who worked on every beam, tile, and pipe.
• Our dedicated NCRD staff, who managed operations, transitions, and preparations with professionalism, creativity, and heart.
• And finally, to our community members — for your patience, support, and unwavering belief that this day would come.

Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
While the old pool served us faithfully for generations, it was time to pass the torch. The new aquatic center carries forward the same mission that started it all — to teach water safety, promote wellness, and bring people together through recreation and community.

From swim lessons for Nehalem Elementary students to senior fitness classes, from therapy and rehabilitation programs to family swim nights, the new facility will ensure that everyone in our region has access to safe, year-round aquatic experiences. The new pool also reflects NCRD’s commitment to sustainability and stewardship. Modern mechanical systems reduce energy and water use, while improved accessibility ensures everyone can enjoy the benefits of aquatic recreation.

Join Us in Celebration
We invite everyone to join us for our Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. The event will include music, refreshments, tours, games, and open swimming — a true community party to celebrate what we’ve achieved together. We hope you’ll come see this incredible facility, take a swim, and share in the pride of knowing that this was made possible by you.

Thank You, North County
This project began with a simple goal: to ensure that future generations would have a safe, vibrant place to swim, learn, and grow. It has become a testament to what can happen when a small community dreams big and refuses to give up.

From everyone at the North County Recreation District, thank you — for believing, for giving, and for helping us make history.

With gratitude,
Justin Smith
Executive Director, North County Recreation District

Civic Saturday Sermon

Submitted By: codger817@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Join us Saturday, October 18 at 10 am for Tillamook County’s version of “Civic Saturdays” with Jim Heffernan hosting. The sermons explore new and better ways to be a citizen. They are aimed at developing “citizenship muscle. We will need “muscle” to bring power back to “We the People”, where it belongs. Each sermon functions as a stand-alone sermon. Don’t worry about missing earlier sessions.
This week’s sermon , number 16 of 19, is “A Test of Our Citizenship” and is 32 minutes long. Eric Liu talks about the three hardest questions on the citizenship exam naturalized citizens must take. They are “What is the Constitution for?”., “What is the “rule of law” ?”, and “What is the promise you make when you become a citizen? ” I think this sermon is the best of all 19 sermons. We can talk about the sermon afterwards, or not. We can exercise our citizenship by attending one of the “No More Kings” gatherings that will happen at noon Saturday the 18th of October.
Sermon was first given on May 5, 2018, but, sadly, little has changed in the last seven years.
