Introduction to Vitreography

This workshop will require proof of vaccination

Join Master Printer Mark Mahaffey in the Wonder Garden for a three-day workshop in Vitreography—the process of printing from sheets of glass on an etching press.

The workshop begins with a video accompanied by examples, followed by a focus on the watercolor monotype in the garden. On the second day, we explore waterless lithography (also known as Siligraphy). On the third day, we will make mono-prints by incorporating siligraphs with monotypes.

We will print our work on an etching press in Hoffman’s Garden. The image size will be 4” x 8” and the total size will be 6 x 11 inches. This small scale will allow each participant to work with the process in the field and to learn how to scale the size up to make larger work.

Mark Mahaffey biography

For the past 35 years, Mark has worked as a fine art collaborator and teacher primarily in traditional printmaking. Before founding Mahaffey Fine Art, he worked at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, Tyler Graphics, Ltd., in New York, and Hand Graphics in Santa Fe, New Mexico—three of the most influential print workshops in the United States. He worked with Richard Serra, Roy Lichtenstein, and David Hockney, among others. Since establishing Mahaffey Fine Art (1992), his clients include Dale Chihuly, Sherrie Wolf, and Dana Schutz.

His range of knowledge and specialization include lithography and intaglio techniques.

Make your own little creature of disgust in the clay studio at North Coast Mudworks in Nehalem!
It’s a quick and fun 90-minute class for kids and adults—no experience or talent is needed. We have space available at all four times: Saturday July 30 at 1:00 and 5:00 pm and Sunday July 31 at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Advance registration is required. $45 per person. Children must have a paid adult attend with them.

Ceramic artist James DeRosso will walk you through the whole making process. After the class our staff will glaze your creature and fire it in our kiln. After firing is completed you can pick it up at Mudworks or have us ship it to you.

1: HAARP is not “new”, it started in 1990. In 2015 it was handed over to the University of Alaska.

2: HAARP is a target of conspiracy theorists, who claim that it is capable of “weaponizing” weather. Commentators and scientists say that advocates of this theory are uninformed, as claims made fall well outside the abilities of the facility, if not the scope of natural science.

HAARP is the world’s most capable high-power, high-frequency transmitter for study of the ionosphere. The HAARP program is committed to developing a world-class ionospheric research facility consisting of:

The Ionospheric Research Instrument, a high power transmitter facility operating in the High Frequency range. The IRI can be used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere for scientific study.
A sophisticated suite of scientific or diagnostic instruments that can be used to observe the physical processes that occur in the excited region.
Observation of the processes resulting from the use of the IRI in a controlled manner will allow scientists to better understand processes that occur continuously under the natural stimulation of the sun.

Scientific instruments installed at the HAARP Observatory can also be used for a variety of continuing research efforts which do not involve the use of the IRI but are strictly passive. These include ionospheric characterization using satellite beacons, telescopic observation of the fine structure in the aurora and documentation of long-term variations in the ozone layer.

This amazing heavy duty tool is barely used.
It will do what you cannot with other methods: Pull out small saplings and Scotch Broom completely roots and all!

“The Extractigator begins the pull with a minimum 12:1 ratio, with the handle at a height which allows the operator to use body weight as the pulling force. If the operator applies 10lbs of body weight to the end of the handle, he or she is applying initially 120lbs of uprooting force to the plant. After the initial pull from the ground, less effort is required. The fulcrum distance increases to remove the entire plant. With the minimum 12:1 ratio – If the operator applies 100lbs of body weight to the end of the handle… that’s 1200 lbs of uprooting force!!
The construction of the Extractigator is of high quality steel, professionally welded with strength and weight as considerations. Grade 8 High Tensile steel bolts with Nylock (self locking) nuts are used as the pivot pins, as they have over 4 times the strength of normal steel.”

Climate change as a weapon

Wow!! HAARP sounds diabolical enough to cause Doctor Stangelove to whip out his circular slide rule and start calculating!

Here’s a paragraph from USAF about the project:

Power for the HAARP HF transmitter is equivalent to that obtained from three or four generators of diesel-locomotive size. The transmitter’s narrow radiating beam is upward pointing and illuminates a relatively small volume in space, producing effects so weak that extremely sensitive diagnostic instruments are required to detect and measure them.

All of the terrible things listed by Ms Gainer would, if even possible, require orders of magnitude more power over long timespans. Thus, climate change is still quite real despite the easy deflection offered by the poster.

View Grading Public Comment

I’m sharing with you the letter that I sent to the Manzanita City Council today about dune grading for views. If you have concerns about view grading I urge you to write the City. For those who may not be able to attend the workshop or Council Meeting, you can email your comments to cityhall@ci.manzanita.or.us
Here’s my letter.

Dear Mayor Scott, Councilmembers Kozlowski, Tonjes, Nuttall, Spegman and City Manager Aman,

A few months ago an application to grade 4.5 acres of dunes between Spindrift and Horizon was denied by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The areas to be graded are public lands. In the denial OPRD cited the overwhelming turn out of Oregonians who oppose view grading of the dunes, the age of the FMP and the devastating impact of large scale grading on habitat and wildlife. None of those things have changed.

At a Council meeting, the Mayor and Council agreed to place a true moratorium on all view grading until neutral scientific research and robust public participation could take place.

I believe of the 7 properties involved there are 5 property owners who will stand to greatly benefit financially from view grading at their properties. At least two of those are oceanfront vacation rentals.

Allowing the Dunes Management Association to circumvent OPRD’s decision would violate Policy 6 and 7 of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and erode public trust in the processes of governance.

As you know, while goals in the Comprehensive Plan are aspirational, policies do have the force of law when mandatory language is used and can be employed to deny proposals like this one.

The plan states:
6) The plan must have the support of the majority of the community.
7) The plan is not to be used for the benefit of a few property owners or special interests, but for the city as a whole.

It’s clear to me that public opposition to view grading is strong in our community and that the 5 people who will benefit do not represent the majority.

The professionals hired by the Manzanita Neah-Kah-Nie Dunes Management Association were also hired by the property owners in Cannon Beach who wanted to continue view grading. After a lengthy public process Cannon Beach voted to no longer allow grading for views.

I urge the City to move forward with the view grading moratorium and stand behind the OPRD denial for all view grading until a neutral team of professionals can be hired by the City and public discussion can take place.

Oregon’s public lands belong to the public.

I will have wholesome regional bee pollen (two pack sizes – $10 and $18), the typical JW Merc array of raw/pure/local honeys in various sizes/colors etc – real Vermont maple syrup of course from the small family farm – and more. HAARP

Environmental Warfare?

The U. S. Government has a new ground-based ―Star Wars‖ weapon which is being tested in the remote bush country of Alaska. This new system manipulates the environment in a way which can:

 Disrupt human mental processes.

 Jam all global communications systems.

 Change weather patterns over large areas.

 Interfere with wildlife migration patterns.

 Negatively affect your health.

 Unnaturally impact the Earth‘s upper atmosphere.

The U.S. military calls its zapper HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Project).

But this skybuster is not about the Northern Lights. This device will turn on lights never intended to be artificially manipulated. Their first target is the electrojet – a river of electricity that flows thousands of miles through the sky and down into the polar icecap. The electrojet will become a vibrating artificial antenna for sending electromagnetic radiation raining down on the earth. The U.S. military can then ―X-ray‖ the earth and talk to submarines. But there‘s much more they can do with HAARP.

So we have to give up fossil fuels because of climate change?

We can’t use Nitrogen fertilizer to grow crops because of climate change?

Can HAARP create droughts? – yes it changes weather patterns!
