MORE ABOUT: NUTS
By Tom Topor

A Broadway hit, Nuts has been called the best courtroom melodrama since Witness for the Prosecution and The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. Set in a courtroom in New York’s Bellevue Hospital, the story follows a high-priced call girl incarcerated on a charge for killing a violent “john”. The State, represented by a court appointed psychiatrist and an aggressive prosecutor, say Claudia Faith Draper is unfit to stand trial. As testimony from experts, physicians and her parents unfolds, with her psyche and childhood dissected, she proves to the judge that she isn’t “nuts” and stands legally sane at trial for manslaughter.

Nuts is a 1979 play by Tom Topor. The play is a courtroom drama, suspense, and psychological drama which explores issues of sexual abuse, family and social power dynamics, and aspects of the criminal court system. The play was adapted for the 1987 film of the same title, directed by Martin Ritt and starring Barbra Streisand and Richard Dreyfuss.

This play deals with a mature subject matter and includes some profanity and offensive language.

GREAT PLAY, GREAT FUN. BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY.

Wheeler Whirl Spins Up a Sweet New Flavor of the Month

Submitted By: Optimalcoachingservices@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Wheeler Whirl is back at it again, proving that small towns can dream big when it comes to dessert. This month’s limited-edition creation takes a trip straight to the Emirates with our “Dubai Inspired Whirl” — a TikTok-famous treat that’s making its way to Wheeler.

So, what’s in it? Picture this: rich, chocolatey soft serve piled high, a swirl of chocolate syrup, a hidden heart of decadent pistachio cream, a sprinkle of crushed pistachios for crunch, and the crown jewel on top — a Dubai-inspired chocolate square that’s as fancy as it sounds. It’s indulgent, nutty, and just the right kind of over-the-top.

And the best part? You don’t need a passport. Just swing by Wheeler Whirl, 23 Gregory St., Wheeler, Oregon, to snag yours for $10 before it swirls away.

Trust us… this isn’t just dessert, it’s an experience. One bite, and you’ll see why people are falling in love with this sweet sensation from Dubai to the Nehalem Bay.

Grab it fast, Wheeler because like all good things, this one’s limited edition.

SATURDAY PEACEFUL PROTEST IN MANZANITA-JOIN US!

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Please join the North County Resistance in a PEACEFUL PROTEST this coming Saturday, August 30 at noon in Manzanita along Highway 101 on Laneda and Manzanita Avenues. We intend to PROTEST from noon to 2 PM. Our country needs all of us to speak up, and by coming together, we can show our elected officials that our community is committed to a better direction.

This peaceful protest aims to address recent legislative proposals that threaten voting rights, birthright citizenship, and government transparency, including the proposed Voter ID bill and recent changes to absentee ballot procedures, as well as efforts to limit access to public records. By gathering, we hope to raise awareness and demand action on these critical issues that directly affect our community’s future. As laws and policies put long-standing protections at risk, our unity and resolve in Manzanita stand as a powerful statement for justice and equality.

For your safety, please always remain on the west side of Highway 101 behind the barricade. If you need to cross, use the designated crosswalk near Manzanita Lumber Yard and Big Wave. Volunteers will be there to help you cross safely. Follow directions from our volunteers in orange vests—they are available to help with any questions or concerns. Do not cross the street outside the crosswalk and avoid entering the highway for any reason. If anyone tries to engage negatively, simply walk away and seek help from a volunteer. Our priority is a peaceful, respectful demonstration for all.

Please remember not to park in local business lots around the protest area; these are reserved for customers. Parking is available along Laneda or Manzanita Avenues (without blocking driveways) and at the new City Hall on Manzanita Avenue.

Prepare for changing weather by dressing in layers and bringing water, a chair if needed, and your protest signs (or borrow one of ours). Most importantly, bring your positive spirit and commitment to our shared values.

Just as we stand together for justice and equality in our protest, we also unite to support neighbors in need through our ongoing partnership with the North County Food Bank. We continue to support the North County Food Bank in Wheeler with your generous donations. Each Tuesday, the food and funds collected are delivered, making a meaningful difference for neighbors in need. Last week was a record breaker for food collected, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness and support of this community treasure. In future updates, we look forward to sharing stories from food bank recipients and volunteers, connecting us all more closely with the impact of our efforts. To stay up to date with their story, please visit their website: www.northtillamookcountyfoodbank.org
Thanks, Patty

Outreach for Service Opportunities

Submitted By: emilydprofessional@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello! I help with a local church youth group and we are looking for service projects that would benefit our local community (ideally anywhere from Bay City to Manzanita). At this time we are looking for a service project involving hand making items to be donated locally (ideas would be hats, blankets, cards, ornaments, care packages, etc) to be done in the month of September. We cannot currently commit to an ongoing, scheduled project, but if you know of other kinds of service projects that could be in one sitting or as-needed, we’d love to hear about them!

Our ideal projects for this September would be able to be done by any age from 10 to 110, and going forward would be projects able to be done by teens. I look forward to being able to find ways to work together with the community!
