Salmonberry Trail Project Video Series 2016

Hello my name is Drew and I created these short (5 minutes or so) videos to explore this fascinating and transforming project. They are a bit dated (standard def and no drones) but there are some wonderful shots. This is the first of four videos in the series. Also a correction – it is the Coastal Range and not Cascade.
Hope you enjoy and that someday we meet on the Great Salmonberry Trail. Cheers, Drew.

20 people have already registered. Sign up Now to make this a crowd that can’t be missed. The more folks we have, the more miles we can clean!
We will be meeting at 9:00am at the Tillamook County Boat Launch at Tideland Road on Saturday, September 17th. Details are listed on the SOLVE website where you can register to help.
www.solveoregon.org/opportunity/a0C8W00000VAM2pUAH/nehalem-riverside-highway-cleanup

Heart of Cartm is leading a litter cleanup along the Nehalem River and Nehalem Bay. We chose this area for a litter clean up because any roadside litter (accidental and intentional) immediately blows into the water where it becomes more costly to remove and a greater hazard to wildlife. Keeping this area clean is CRITICAL to the health of our beautiful ecosystem.

Whether you travel this scenic route every day for work or you are dreaming of coming here on your next road trip with the family camper, its up to each of us to keep it healthy. Walking this route is THE BEST way to savor the beauty, so let’s walk it together while cleaning!

Thank you to the Community Partners making the Beach and Riverside Cleanup event an annual Fall family tradition across Oregon:

MooVoter launches discussions on November election items

Submitted By: bluefishout@earthlink.net – Click to email about this post
MooVoter: Say it three times really fast.

(Tillamook County, Oregon) MooVoter, MooVoter, MooVoter. Some long time city council members may need to move over and make room for new voices as numerous council and mayoral seats are challenged throughout Tillamook County. In the last election of city officials, which was two years ago, there were 35 candidates and 12 took their seats in unopposed races while another 8 maintained their seats. The field has blossomed to 48 candidates and only 9 are unopposed. For the other races the fields are robust with first time candidates ready to contribute to our growing community.

Nine of the new candidates are vying for the five seats that will become available should the measure to make Oceanside the eighth incorporated city in the county pass. The measure to do this is simultaneously on the November ballot with the prospective candidates.

Along with the move to incorporate Oceanside there are eight additional County measures on the ballot. The County, and the cities of Tillamook, Wheeler, and Nehalem are proposing restrictions on the sale of psilocybin in opposition of State Measure 109 which passed by almost 56% in 2021. That statewide measure, set to go in effect in 2023, allowed for the use of the drug in supervised facilities to assist in combatting mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. It did not decriminalize the drug. Additional measures include a gas tax on dealers to improve and maintain streets within the city of Tillamook, and three levies to support local fire departments.

To assist voters in making an informed decision, MooVoter has launched into its fourth election cycle of presenting information on the ballot items particular to Tillamook County for voters to explore and discuss. The public Facebook group is non-partisan and does not endorse any candidate or measure. It shows each of the races in Tillamook County, which candidates are running against which, summaries and impact of the measures, and it gives members the chance to ask questions directly to candidates or representatives of the measures.

MooVoter’s mission is to give information about what is on the ballots, and hopefully, give members an opportunity to get to know the candidates and issues better. MooVoter gathers as much information as possible on candidates and measures. Most statements are pulled from Facebook or web pages published by candidates, news outlets, etc. All candidates are sent a notice that they have been included and a request to contribute a statement, and or, image. MooVoter is an opportunity to go beyond polarizing issues or party affiliation and learn about local candidates and issues first hand.

An added feature of MooVoter is that members can easily help the campaigns that they support by hitting the “share” button under the graphic on any thread and sharing it on their Facebook pages or in groups.

The rules are simple: You may respond to threads with questions, endorsements, opposition, or just observe. Please be respectful in your language. No party politics. No trolls. #BeKind

Free Garage Door

Submitted By: aprilclarkyoga@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Free garage door in Nehalem! It works perfectly, maybe just needs a little paint along the top of the outside.

We remodeled half of our garage into a room so no longer need this door. It is FREE if you just want the door (and this comes with the railings and all hookups to hang it up & install it).

We also have the option to purchase the electric garage door opener system that was used with the door for $150 (new systems like this one tend to cost $400 or more).

In Nehalem.

We have a FREE garage door with the railings and everything you need to hook it up in your garage. We are in Nehalem.

It works perfectly, we just remodeled half of our garage into a workshop with no garage door, and no longer need it.

We also have the electric garage door opener system that was used with this door, which we are selling for $150 OBO (new ones like this are around $400 or more).

If you just want the free door/railings and not the door opener system, that is fine too!

Are you hypno curious?

Are you hypno curious?

Let’s have virtual coffee and talk about it.

I have 2 spots open for hypnosis and coaching.

I’m strengths-based and solution-focused.

If you’re looking to make changes faster than you ever thought possible, I’m your girl to make that happen with you.

I’m not a hypnotist you’d see at the fair.

If you want someone to get you to stand up in front of people and cluck like a chicken while waving your arms about, I’m not the one to make that happen … unless it was something that you really wanted to do, and then I could help.

So, what do people come to see me about? These are some common themes:

“I have such high anxiety and I don’t want to feel like this anymore.”

“I hate my life and I don’t know how to get myself to make it better (but I know that I could if I could just figure it out).”

“I say terrible things to myself, and I want to stop doing that. It just makes things worse.”

“I’m in my own way, and I don’t know how to stop doing that. I know what I want, and I know that I am the one who keeps me from getting there.”

“I’m unhappy in my relationship(s) and I don’t know what to do about it.”

And how do you feel after working with me?

You’re usually smiling more beginning with our first session.

You are kinder and gentler with yourself, treating yourself with loving kindness. That old, critical voice is quieter or has disappeared entirely.

You change how you look at relationships, and you’re happier as a result. You might even change your relationships.

Life is easier and happier than it has been in a long time.

So, if you are ready to
Smile more
Love more
Have more fun
Be kind to yourself

Fall is in the Air

Submitted By: MarkForCouncil2022@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I was reminded that Fall is almost here as I took down the canopy and folded the table from the final Master Gardener Association booth at the Manzanita Farmers Market on Friday. As I’ve done for many years now, I thought back on the summer’s garden question highlights. While It was a lot of work, I’m going to miss hosting the booth at the Market, and having the opportunity to connect with Manzanita citizens, other locals and visitors alike.

The conversations I’ve had with a variety of people — voters, county residents and regular visitors — have clearly outlined to me what is on people’s minds and what thoughts they have about possible solutions.

I, too, have been thinking and formulating possible solutions that I will bring to the City Council if I am elected, and as I continue to attend Council and other committee meetings.

The biggest issues are Livability of our Community, the City Budget, Short Term Rentals, and Safety. Many of these topics are interconnected, and include positive and negative aspects. It is the job of the City Council to listen to citizen input, then make informed decisions. While discussions on these topics often bring out strong opinions and passionate sentiment, I will listen to all, weigh the options against the fiscal and regulatory constraints, and work with my fellow council members and mayor to end up with solutions that we can all live with.

Please vote for me for City Council on November 8 so we can all dive into the work that needs to be done. Visit my website www.MarkForCouncil2022.com for more information about how I will bring ideas and action to our city’s government.

REMINDER: The Truth about the Economics of Logging

Submitted By: betmcmahon@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
Reminder: 6:30pm Tuesday Sept 13th “The Truth about the Economics of Logging”

North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP), which advocates to protect our local drinking watersheds, is excited to announce an upcoming talk with economist Ernie Niemi, “The Truth about the Economics of Logging.” A Q&A will follow. This free zoom event will take place on September 13 at 6:30 p.m. PT. Here is the LINK TO REGISTER or at www.healthywatershed.org

For 40 years, Niemi has documented the external costs of timber production in the Pacific Northwest, with a special focus on timber workers, their families and their communities. He will speak with NCCWP about the realities of the economics of the logging industry as it currently stands, and realistic economic ways forward for our community that are not extractive and destructive. Neimi will explain why logging is no longer an economic growth factor for our communities—in fact it actually jeopardizes the real economic drivers on the coast, which are quality of life (clean air and water) and recreation in our beautiful forests, beaches and rivers. Niemi’s talk will address the need for economic considerations of climate change and the biodiversity crisis, and provide tips for speaking up about the value of our forests.

North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (formerly Rockaway Beach Citizens for Watershed Protection) is a grassroots group working, through education and advocacy, for better protections of the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the forests that sustain us. healthywatershed.org | www.facebook.com/NCCWATERSHEDPROTECTION |
