PATRICK CONNER: SET DESIGNER/ACTOR
Patrick first brought his set design talents to the NCRD Performing Arts Center stage in
last year’s Riverbend Players’ production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS and IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, followed this year by ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. As an artist and designer, Patrick loves helping bring stage productions to life with the many nuanced details that go into set design. Patrick and his husband Frank are the owners of Wanda’s Cafe + Bakery in Nehalem, and if that wasn’t enough, Patrick is also the new art teacher at Neah-Kah-Nie Middle School in Rockaway Beach.
It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play runs December 9th and 10th at 7 pm, and December 11th at 2 pm for a matinee.
Located at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem.

The Rockaway Lions Club will be providing Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner fixings. Fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, and of course a turkey are provided to special families in the School District 56 area. The Lions are a wonderful group of people doing this work. The Lions are prepared for Thanksgiving but would surely appreciate your help at Christmas. More info on Rockaway Beach Lions can be found here: e-clubhouse.org-sites/rockaway/page-6.php.
Also in Rockaway Beach is the Meals for Seniors, Inc. program. This organization is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the meeting hall next to the Catholic Church. Meals are also delivered to clients. A hot meal can be had for just a $4 donation, but you can still join them for lunch even if you don’t have the $4. Just $24 will pay for six hot and nutritious meals. $96 will serve that senior for a month. See more at mealsforseniorsrockawaybeach.org.
The North County Food Bank is in Wheeler. Financial donations enable them to purchase wholesome food at wholesale prices from the Oregon Food Bank, local grocers, and other sources. This Food Bank is going out of their way to provide Thanksgiving meals to people. With inflation hitting all of us, it is hitting the NCFB and their ability to buy food. Please help them out. More info www.northtillamookcountyfoodbank.org/
Nehalem Senior Lunches are provided at the Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church in Nehalem on Tuesday and Thursday. Lunches are also delivered. Again, sometimes lunch and a personal touch are what people need.

The play is set in Brighton Beach in 1937 and is wholly concerned with one family’s plight during a one-week space of time. The play has humor and pathos in equal measure, and is a heartwarming testament to the love of family.
Roles:
Eugene: a 14–16-year-old precocious sports lover who provides much of the humor in the play
Stanley: 17-18 years-old and Eugene’s older brother who struggles with his role as the “second man” of the house
Nora: a gorgeous 15-16-year-old cousin with dreams of becoming a dancer
Laurie: Nora’s younger sister (13-14 years old) who is pampered by her mother because of a “flutter” in her heart
Kate: 40ish; Eugene and Stanley’s mother, who keeps the family on an even keel
Blanche: Nora and Laurie’s mother; who have all came to live under the same roof since the passing of her husband
Jack: 45ish: The patriarch of the family who works very hard to support his family

Instructors are experienced Master Gardener volunteers. In addition to classroom instruction, hands-on gardening labs will be conducted at the Learning Garden, Tillamook County Fairgrounds.
Students will learn basic botany, entomology and plant diseases. The course covers methods of sustainable gardening and growing vegetables, berries, fruit trees, ornamentals and lawns. It also covers soil management and plant nutrition directed at the local bioregion. Participants learn how to diagnose plant problems and find research-based solutions.
After the class is completed, students donate 40 hours of volunteer time working in the office under the supervision of a certified Master Gardener answering gardening questions from the public. Volunteer hours can also be earned by working in the Learning Garden, at farmers market plant clinics, in community gardens and on other Master Gardener activities. All volunteer experiences are selected to help you learn and connect with the community.
Cost of the course is $150, which includes the Sustainable Gardening Handbook. Scholarships are available. Contact Sarah Ostermiller at sarah.ostermiller@oregonstate.edu for more information.
Apply on-line: beav.es/5Ao. Applications Close December 16, 2022. Class Schedules and full descriptions are available online at www.tillamookmastergardenrs.com, our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/tillamookmastergardeners or the OSU Extension Office, 4506 Third Street, 503-842-3433.

15 Oregon coast makers are teaming up to sell their handcrafted goods!
Small Business Saturday is a day to support small, independent, locally owned makers and farmers.
“We want to be a part of the big holiday shopping weekend” said organizer and local tea maker Ginger Edwards of North Fork 53 Communitea. “Most of us work from our farms or home studios so it’s not as easy for people to find us or the things we make in shops.”
On Saturday shoppers will find everything from hand thrown pottery by Nehalem based Unearth Studio to small batch canned pickles and jams from Gingifer’s Jams to naturally dyed indigo scarves from DreamBird Studios in Astoria. Other goods include Stained glass art, crystal jewelry, tea and cocoas, kelp clay body products, gem essence sprays and poetry books, stationary and cards and much much more!
Don’t miss your chance to shop direct from the artists!

Beautiful 2003 BMW X5 3.0
Clean title. Ready to go.
$4,800
Fully loaded compact SUV with all leather interior, heated seats, sunroof and sports package. V6 All Wheel Drive. Lots of cargo space too.
It has 150,000 miles. The engine has been fully upgraded and overhauled to give it lots of new life- including:
New vanos system, cooling system, radiator, water pump, thermostat, head gasket, valve cover, drive belts, tensioners, alternator, ac compressor, air injection pump and spark plugs.
Body is in great condition!
I recently purchased this in Portland but then decided it was too fancy and not quite big enough for my farmers market hauling life.
When my friend offered me her used Subaru I decided to let this car go on to the next person.
Rick Scovel has looked it over and given it a clean bill of health. There is a faulty O2 sensor tripping on the service engine light but it’s not a problem with the car. A small fan by the radiator needs to be replaced eventually- I was going to do it but I don’t want to invest the time. It’s priced to accommodate the little fix needed.
Email me if interested. I’m posting here first before it goes up on Craigslist:) It’s located in Nehalem.
