Dear Wheeler Neighbors,
My beloved 7-year-old large Siamese cat named Bugsy has been missing for several days now! He’s an indoor/outdoor cat that lives up on 3rd street off of Gregory, up behind Wheeler post office. Wheeler neighbors plz, plz check your sheds, etc in case he accidentally got locked in somewhere. I am still hoping for the best, he’s very large, handsome and smart Siamese cat.
Thanks, Nan

Gail Wilson Early American Doll Series Kits–all retired

Gail Wilson Early American Doll Series—Kits All Retired
Original Series: Inspired by history, Gail loved the humbleness and simplicity of Early Americana. She wanted all of the pieces to be of the highest quality this scale permits. The series began with the Basic Doll and her 3″ doll’s doll then continues on with quilts and other accessories. I purchased these kits when working at the Pine Needle in Lake Oswego as the children’s sewing and quitting instructor.

THE BASIC DOLL (and her 3″ Doll’s Doll) – The Early American Doll Series was based on this “basic doll”. Her construction is taken from humble cloth dolls, but she becomes a little more defined with her delicate joints and painted surface, which is another old-time technique. She has a mohair wig and is stuffed with real wool. $25

AMISH DOLL -The Historical Doll Series $30

Accessories: All accessory kits come complete with materials, pre-cut wood parts, paint, patterns and instructions. $15 each or 2 for $25

Outfit: Victorian Style #1: Drop-Waist Dress Pantaloons, Hat and Coat hanger $15

A Quilt and Quiltrack $15

Sewing Accessories Kit $15

Ironing Board and Flat Iron $15

Girl Scout’s looking for fleece fabric donations

Submitted By: Chantellebrown1@comcast.net – Click to email about this post
Hi there!
Our Girl Scout Troop here in Nehalem (#10522 ☺) are going to be making small fleece blankets for our local cat rescue, The United Paws. Does anyone have any spare fleece fabric that they are able to donate to us? The United Paws likes to provide these to the cats after they have their spay or neuter surgeries and also to send home when they are newly adopted. Thank you all so much in advance. ❤

Winter Solstice Retreat Day- Wed. Dec. 21st

Submitted By: revolutionginger@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Join us as we gather to honor and celebrate the longest night of the year. This is a time to get cozy by the fire, sip tea, enjoy the heat of the sauna, sit in sacred circle and make solstice crafts!

Leading this celebration are two inspirational weavers of art and magic.

Iris Sullivan Daire of Dreambird Studios in Astoria

Adria Badagnani of Art & Channel in Manzanita.

Iris begins the day by leading a Solstice natural dye class using the stored sunlight of dried summer flowers to infuse bright golden rays onto cotton cloth.

If you have never tried your hand at turning garden flowers to fabric pigment you will be delighted to learn the magic of this process! These golden dyed cloths can then be stitched into gift bags, altar cloths or bandanas to keep or give as gifts.

Following your natural dye class you are invited to bask in the luxurious warmth of our wood fired sauna. Perfect medicine for cold winter days- our riverfront sauna experience will also include a kelp mineral face mask and cold plunge (optional) to replenish dry winter skin and stimulate your immune and lymphatic system.

End your day of celebration with a Winter Solstice ritual led by Adria.

In circle we will first honor the darkness and what lies in the unknown before welcoming the light back with candle magic. With a poetic invocation of the elements, our sacred circle will open to create intentions, receive the wisdom of the darkness, and bring light into the New Year.

Sweet elemental surprises & gifts await each participant in this circle!

Our farm blended teas and snacks will be available for you to enjoy throughout the day!

There are only 7 spaces remaining for this retreat. Use the link below to reserve your spot today.

COMMUNITY SURVEY regarding Hours of Operation at Rinehart Clinic & Pharmacy

We are interested in the community’s feedback on whether the current hours of operation at the Rinehart Clinic and Pharmacy meet the needs of our patients and community members. During the pandemic, we reduced our hours slightly in response to the reduced number of people visiting the clinic and pharmacy.

If you are a patient at Rinehart Clinic and/or if you visit Rinehart Pharmacy (or are a potential patient or customer), we would appreciate your input on the community survey linked below. The survey should take 3-4 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

new business on laneda avenue

Submitted By: babbles@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
hello to all local residents of all three towns, to any of us who visit manzanita regularly. having read patty rinehart’s bbq post a while back, in response i sent an email to leila aman, manzanita city manager, and to a city council member and to a planning commission member.

now i just read nancy hornshue’s bbq post with the same concern, i have decided to post the gist of that message here.

please, fellow residents, make your concerns heard.

to leila aman:
“i am writing at this time to express my concern about the new Steeplejack Brewing building proposal from Harder Holding Coastal.

it is egregious for the city to permit any new business that doesn’t have adequate parking.

during my ownership of manzanita news & espresso from 1996 to 2006, i witnessed two examples of this:

1) the overboard building met its parking requirement by creating 4 parking spaces BEHIND the building. the right-angle turn standard-size inconspicuous driveway was graced by a very small sign on the side of the building that said “parking in rear.” NOONE ever used those parking spaces except the occupants and business owner. the sign itself has long since disappeared. so the owners of that building got away with NO public parking spaces.

2) the 144 laneda building houses at least 4 businesses on the ground floor and 4 or 6 residences above. they did create a large parking lot behind the building. and it is used. BUT…. many visitors have no idea it is there and don’t use it.

at the present moment, i’m also wondering where is the parking for The Winery at Manzanita? i see a LOT of people sipping wine on their porch. where are they parking?

as visitors to manzanita are only going to increase over the years, any new business MUST be required to have adequate parking. how dare the city allow otherwise?

i remember when the office building was being built next door to Manzanita News & Espresso. Patty Rinehart and Diane Gibson spent a lot of money meeting all the city planning standards, including plenty of parking. EVERYONE WHO BUILDS IN MANZANITA SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE.

i hope you get LOTS of folks writing to express their concern.

i have every hope that my words will fall on listening ears, based on what i have seen so far of your leadership.

respectfully,

Meet the cast of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A LIVE RADIO PLAY!

MARK BARTROM: ACTOR

Mark is performing in his third production with Riverbend Players. Mark made his acting debut last year as the angel Clarence in the Riverbend Players’ production of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE and followed that up by playing a man of the cloth in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. Mark returns this year to reprise his role of the bumbling angel, Clarence. Don’t let the angel and reverend roles fool you! We know him all too well. Mark is retired, and he and his husband Robert moved to Manzanita over a year ago.

Festive Winter Treasures
Current registered participants can view prior recorded demonstrations and Zoom sessions at Hoff-Online

Celebrate winter by creating a festive botanical drawing taking inspiration from winter fruit, foliage, or winter branches. You may work in your sketchbook, paper of your choice, or perhaps create a winter-themed holiday card. We will look at creative and festive ways to arrange your winter treasures. The workshop will include a presentation of Dorota’s botanical drawings of seasonal plants, step-by-step examples, a demonstration of how to approach drawing from observation and various colored pencils techniques, and a time to draw together. Dorota plans to include how you can turn your botanical drawings into greeting cards. Although drawing in the realistic form will be the focus, individual styles will be encouraged and celebrated.
