Razor Clamming Workshop w/ Razor Clam Chowder at Osprey Cafe

Submitted By: shiftingtidesnw@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
This workshop will introduce students to intertidal ecosystems of the Oregon Coast. We will discuss tides, ocean conditions, and safety. We will be digging Razor Clams on the beach front in Seaside, OR. Students will learn about the different environments of various clam species as well as the clamming industry along the Oregon Coast.

After clamming we will venture to Osprey Cafe where owner and avid forager, Josh Bokish will make us his locally famous smoked razor clam chowder. Josh opened Osprey Café in 2014 after working in kitchens all over Portland. The café focuses on brunch favorites, with an international flair and a specialty in local produce and seafood. Foraged goods often appear on the menu; including mushrooms, sea beans, stinging nettles, seaweed, fiddlehead ferns and wild onions, to name a few. Josh is also an avid fisherman, crabber, barnacle gatherer and clam digger in his spare time.

Extra bonus, chowder will be served in bowls made by a local potter Michelle Valigura of Basalt Pottery in Cannon Beach. Michelle has created her own blend of recycled and foraged clay that is sourced from the cliffs of the north coast. She incorporates this mixture of clay into bowls and plates for daily use or an artistic showpiece. You’ll even get to take these home with you (:

Shellfish licenses must be purchased prior to class, which can be done online through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

This Thursday’s dance will bring focus to the vagus nerve

Led by Libby Golden
Thursday 6.15.23
At the White Clover Grange on HWY 53

Doors open at 6:00 PM for warmup/setup
6:30 PM – opening circle/dance set
8:00 PM – closing circle

$10 cash check or venmo/paypal
(kids are welcome to dance for free)

Music will include opportunities for chanting and humming along with our dancing. Gentle breathing, stretching and toning tips for vagal nerve health will open our dance session. Come wander in wonder with this key wandering nerve in our bodies to bring more ease, comfort and pleasure. Studies show good vagal tone decreases anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, lowers blood pressure and has a balancing effect on blood sugars and digestion to name a few benefits.

________

Dance Etiquette/Tips:
*All are welcome – Family friendly events – Come as you are.
*Bring a water bottle and layers.
*Bring kindness and respect for yourself and others and your willingness to explore and to dive into the ecstasy of spirit available through movement.
*No outside shoes on the dance floor if possible (dirty floors aren’t fun to roll around on)
*Please no strong scents.
*We ask that you limit talking during the dance set. Set up, break time, and the foyer area are great places to have longer conversations to limit distractions for others.

We dance every Thursday (moving to the beach next week!)
…Hope to dance with you soon

RIVERBEND PLAYERS COMMUNITY THEATER ANNOUNCES NEWLY ELECTED BOARD OFFICERS

Submitted By: frank@wandascafe.com – Click to email about this post
Riverbend Players congratulate our newly elected board officers on their new positions!

Frank Squillo as President, Julee Ward as VP / Treasurer, Linda Makohon re-elected as board Secretary, and newest board member Juli Stratton elected as the new Artistic Director.

The board would like to thank our outgoing president, Tom Cocklin, for his years of service and dedication to Riverbend Players.

Tom was vital in the inception of Riverbend Players becoming a 503c non-profit nearly 10 years ago and has worked tirelessly in numerous roles over the years to help sustain an organization dedicated to producing theater productions for our coastal community.

With Tom’s retirement from the board, he leaves Riverbend Players in the capable hands of the current members and new board president, Frank Squillo.

Frank said “I am honored to step into this new role as the president of our community theater group. I am committed to building on the theater’s past successes and ensuring that it continues to provide quality entertainment for the community. I also want to continue to make the theater a fun and inclusive place for everyone who wants to be involved. With the help of the current board members, I have no doubt we are ready for the next chapter in Riverbend Players’ future!”

Riverbend Players’ current production of 12 ANGRY JURORS has 3 final shows this weekend. Come see why it’s broken all previous attendance and revenue records for RiverBend Players productions.
