GENERAL INTEREST

EDITORIAL:
For your bi-weekly dose of James Howard Kunstler’s hawk-eye view of our nations shenanigans on the world stage, his latest bit of word smithing.

I applaud all who contribute to local community through volunteer hours, donations, food, public resources, city planning, health planning, housing planning, expressing opinions, all of that, everything needed to keep our little bubble intact. My reason for offering an occasional Kunstler editorial is to point out the scale of what we are up against when struggling to provide food, shelter and health to our neighbors and ourselves. The MIIC, military-industrial-intelligence-complex, or whatever name we choose to use for the voracious animal that is a hydra of unelected AND elected heads, who have driven our ship of state up on the shoals thrives on divide and pit one against another. Don’t buy it.

Love Bird Django Needs a Home

Submitted By: dlrossaz52@aol.com – Click to email about this post
My daughter moved to New Mexico, leaving behind a lovebird. Love Birds are from the parrot family of birds, and Django talks. His language includes: peak-a-boo, Hey there cutie, come here, here kitty-kitty, dog, and wolf whistles. He is ten years old and is quite entertaining. I’m having a hip replacement at the end of October and it was never my intention to keep him.

He comes with a large cage, pictured. Some toys, a travel cage and quite a bit of food.

Birding on the Bay

Submitted By: info@netartsbaywebs.org – Click to email about this post
Join Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS and Portland Aubudon’s Coastal Community Science Biologist, Allison Anholt, to observe coastal birds on and near Netarts Bay. We’ll start off the day with an overview of the endangered Western Snowy Plover and the “Plover Patrol” program run by Portland Audubon and Oregon State Parks coordinating community scientists to monitor this recovering species on the north coast including Netarts Spit. We will travel to various locations around the bay and surrounding headlands and hope to see soaring brown pelicans, great blue herons, bald eagles, songbirds, and cormorants among others from afar and bayside.
Details:
Be prepared to walk up to 1-2 miles to and from observation points.
Participants will need to provide their own transportation between locations and may need to purchase a day-use permit at the state park. The specific route and locations will be shared at the start of the program. Carpooling is encouraged.
Gear: Bring binoculars (two spotting scopes and a few binoculars will be available) and appropriate shoes (please no flip flops). The climate can change quickly along the coast, ranging from warm to cool and breezy, so please bring the gear you need to stay comfortable. This event will take place primarily outdoors. If bad weather develops, an alternate plan will be communicated to the registered participants.
Registration Required at www.eventbrite.com/e/summer-birding-on-the-bay-registration-663801637567
Cost: There is no cost to attend this program. Tax-exempt donations to Netarts Bay WEBS to enable programs like this are encouraged, but not required.
