The good news is that the Manzanita Budget Comm. reviewed this year’s budget, including Indirect Cost Allocation methodology this Spring. With no axe to grind, and dealing with legal, municipal and cost realities, after rigorous discussions, the budget and methodology were voted on and approved by a unanimous vote of City Council. Half of the Budget Comm. consists of highly qualified volunteers who applied, were interviewed and then appointed by unanimous vote of our elected/appointed representatives. The other half of the Budget Comm. consists of the City Council and our highly qualified Chief Budget Officer, Leila Aman. This process, which by law happens every year, assures that the Manzanita budget is secure, legal and produced with the utmost professionalism. In contrast, resident Kugler wants Manzanita to follow his personal budgetary opinions, which consistently display an astounding lack of understanding of municipal budgeting or budgetary acumen. Every year, we hear the same tired, irrelevant tirades. A few years back, he even threatened to sue the city if they didn’t follow his opinions. Thank you to the City of Manzanita for following the law and common sense, and including resident input from all of us, not just a self-appointed “expert”. We have real problems to face and exciting opportunities facing the city. Let’s continue to focus on these, or actual challenges.

Next Conscious Aging program at the Pine Grove is this coming Monday, August 12, from 2-4

The conscious aging and community connections program is held on the second Monday of each month from 2-4pm. Sponsorship by the Pine Grove Community House allows us to keep admission at $5 per session.

All proceeds go directly to the Pine Grove Community House.

Our overall program goals are to bring people in our community together, to get to know one another at a deeper level, and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives. Everyone is welcome to join us!

On August 12th, the theme for our gathering is Enrich Your Life Now, No Matter Your Age; yes, into your 80’s & 90’s and beyond. How do we ensure that we are fully savoring the life we have ahead of us? We’ll share tools that others (ourselves in some cases) have used to enrich their lives as they age. From Bucket Lists to Anti-bucket Lists, from collecting 70 New Experiences for a 70th year, to Awe Walks and learning to Densify your Time. This session will be part short presentation and part discussion, broken into smaller discussion groups. Bring your curiosity and any tools you use successfully to enrich your own current life, and plans for your future years.

August 12, 2 – 4pm at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita. Please arrive before 2 as we will start promptly.

New kitchen, new life. I’m not gonna pretend some day I’ll be a baker.

I bought this some years ago because I believed every kitchen needed one. Problem is, I don’t bake. If this was used more than two times I’d be surprised. It’s spent its entire life on shelves mostly for display I fear. I’d rather pay a bill to be honest.

It’s got the 4qt bowl, various mixing attachments and even the manual. It’s in the factory box it was bought in.

I did some research online and 95$ is a fair price for us both. Reach out if you want more pics. I couldn’t get more than one picture posted. And the box at least had all the features listed.

A presentation by Ernie Niemi ‘The Climate Crisis & The Oregon Coast-An Economic Perspective’ On Thursday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Mary by the Sea Catholic Church Parish Hall (275 S. Pacific St.; Rockaway Beach, OR 97136), North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) will host natural resource economist Ernie Niemi. Educated at the University of Oregon and Harvard, Mr. Niemi is President of Natural Resource Economics, Inc. where he specializes in economic-impact analysis to understand the economic importance of natural resources. He has been active on numerous advisory boards, including the Citizen’s Task Force for Developing a Strategic Plan for the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, and the Technical Advisory Committee on Land Use and Economic Development for the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development. Mr. Niemi’s presentation will broadly explore the economic consequences of the climate crisis before examining the economic importance of maintaining our forested ecosystem. Audience participation is encouraged by Niemi. All are invited to attend and learn about how interconnected the health of our environment and our economy really are. SAY – Jeff here (NW-local raw honey/real Vermont maple syrup – and more) to share the next couple of home/office delivery dates with you – and share information about my first raw honey tasting/presentation at the NCRD in September.
The NEXT south Clatsop County/north Tillamook County home-or-office delivery date will be TUESDAY August 20th – in the afternoon hours. Quarts of raw Blackberry Blossom honey from the Blodgett area (coast range) will be in tow ($29 each) along with the VERY LIMITED raw Blueberry/Wildflower honey (pints only – $19 each) from the Siletz blueberry farm. Real maple syrup – OF COURSE! Quarts $28 – full gallons $89. Other items available include full-throttle apple-cider vinegar made from OG apples in Washington state ($9 per quart – three for $25) , HOLY KAKOW OG chocolate syrup (two for $15) and large (7.75 oz) cans north Pacific caught Albacore ($11 each).
The NEXT delivery date is also a Tuesday – the 10th of September. On MONDAY SEPTEMBER 9th I will be conducting a 75 minute-ish raw honey tasting and talk at the NCRD (thank you folks!) covering a consumer-level range of FAQ most often heard at my “pop-up” booth activities regarding raw honey – the what/where/why including yes – what’s up with crystallization (not: this is NOT a beekeeping class). Superior Driveway paving and sealing

I tried for 5 years to get the strip of gravel between the county road and my cement driveway paved. No one was willing to do it or I was on their “list” and they never go to it. I was given the name of Olson Asphalt in Gearhart,(www.oamnw.com) they came out, gave me an affordable estimate and did an outstanding job. In fact, it is so good, I will no longer have the water from the road and drive running onto my patio. I would highly recommend them for your paving and sealing needs.

Astoria Art Loft is hosting the artistry of the Contemporary Quilt Art Association. Demonstrating fabric techniques (laminating, gel printing and marbeling) this Saturday from 1 – 4 pm.
