WHERE DID PUBLIC SAFETY GO? number 3

#3 WHERE DID PUBLIC SAFETY GO?
(releasing criminals back into the streets)

Governor Brown released many convicted persons early. After being released one criminal killed 4 people. Governor Brown granted early release to 10 convicted murderers without notifying families of the victims of this fact. She also granted early release to 975 convicted felons. (in California. a now “trashed” state – they did the same thing) Keep criminals where they belong – which is on the street – I guess.

Governor Tina Kotek would expand the “earned discharged program,” which now lets people on probation, people who have served sentences in local jails and people whose prison sentences began on or after Jan. 1, 2022, reduce their supervision by up to half if they meet their goals.!!

So I assume that this “works”? It reduces crime? But Gov Tina Kotek says we need to have our homes taxed because we need to fund “public safety” because crimes are becoming so out of control. Public Safety is under siege.

So which is it? Too much crime or not?
Gov. Kotek says, after implementing Democratic measures to reduce crime (measure 110), that we have too much crime.

Because everyone in Oregon knows by now that measure 110 was disastrous because it increased crime and deaths by addiction. Another measure is looking to fix this but the criminals will still on be the street and the FIX won’t be a FIX. But taxes from marijuana sales will still flow into the capitol. SHHHHh – thats the most important thing!

So this new measure will keep people quiet maybe for about 6 months.

Submitted By: admin@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post

CRIMES OF THE HEART OPENS FRIDAY, MARCH 1st
Tickets at www.RiverbendPlayers.org

CRIMES OF THE HEART:
This darkly comedic play by Beth Henley delves into the messy lives of the Magrath women, each grappling with their own “crimes of the heart.”

Under a searing Mississippi sun, the Magrath sisters’ fragile lives shatter when Babe, the youngest, shoots her philandering husband.

Summoned home, the eldest, Lenny, wrestles with small-town stagnation and dreams of escape.

Meg, the middle sister, a washed-up singer, drowns her past in whiskey, returning with secrets clinging to her like Spanish moss.

As Babe’s legal storm brews, the kitchen of their childhood home becomes a pressure cooker of buried memories and blistering truths.

Past resentments erupt, revealing the scars of their mother’s suicide and their father’s desertion.

Their eccentric cousin Chick stirs the pot, while their flamboyant lawyer Barnette offers shaky legal support and a dash of unexpected romance.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play paints a bittersweet portrait of Southern women struggling to rise above their “crimes of the heart” and embrace the promise of a brighter future.

Looking for a Rental Starting May 1

Submitted By: nmld244@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello coast community!

My partner and I just moved to Tillamook County a few months ago. We are currently looking for a rental between Rockaway and Tillamook starting in May. I have my teacher’s license and am substituting in the Neah Kah Nie and Tillamook districts, and my partner works for a non-profit in Tillamook. We both have great credit and can offer references. We are currently paying 1400 per month and are hoping to find something comparable. We also have farm and landscaping experience and would be open to an arrangement where we exchanged working hours for subsidized rent. We have a sweet 60-lb dog (pictured). We both speak Spanish! Let us know if you might have any leads. Thank you!

FOREST POETS EVENT! Thurs Feb 29, 6 to 8 pm Astoria

Submitted By: koptiuch@asu.edu – Click to email about this post
On Thursday, February 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection invites you to join us for our first FOREST POETS event in the Lovell Taproom at Fort George Brewery and Public House, 1483 Duane St. in Astoria. (Note: The doors open at 5:00 p.m. for food and drinks before the event begins.)

This free event will feature readings from several North Coast poets, including the award-winning Robert Michael Pyle, as well as Jim Dott, Jennifer Nightingale, Reba Owen, Logan Garner, and Lauren Mallett. Their poetry selections will be inspired by, and celebrate, our temperate rainforest ecosystem that has forests and bodies of water which serve as muse for many of us living in the area.

Robert Michael Pyle lives, writes, and studies natural history along Grays River in Washington’s heavily-logged Willapa Hills. His 1986 book Wintergreen is widely considered a classic testament to the resilience of life in the land of logging. His 28 books of essays, poetry, and fiction often turn to the woods and waters for their subject. Pyle is the recipient of two National Outdoor Book Awards, the John Burroughs Medal, as well as a Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Conservation Biology.

This first Forest Poets event is being coordinated by North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection and Fort George as a part of the brewery’s Thursday Lecture Series. Doors will open at the Lovell Taproom at 5:00 p.m., allowing time for mingling, food, and drinks before the event begins at 6:00 p.m. During the event, there will be a brief intermission. You will also get to hear from NCCWP about our current and upcoming plans in Clatsop and Tillamook Counties, and how you can get involved with efforts to safeguard and restore your local watershed. DON’T MISS IT!

Author to Read From her Chicken Memoir, “Under the Henfluence”

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Tove Danovich, author of “Under the Henfluence: Inside the World of Chickens and the People Who Love Them,” will discuss her chicken-keeping memoir in a presentation at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Cannon Beach Library.
This will be a hybrid event: The talk will be offered in person at the library and online through the library’s website, cannonbeachlibrary.org.
“Under the Henfluence” blends Danovich’s personal experience as an obsessed chicken keeper with her animal welfare reporting. While she offers a sobering picture of the cruel treatment inherent in the industrial agriculture approach to chicken farming, Danovich also recounts her initial chicken-keeping efforts in charming, often-funny and sometimes heart-breaking detail, as she welcomes her first four, fuzzy chicks.
The lives of these quirky and mysterious birds are told through interviews with the people breeding, training, healing and adoring chickens. Perhaps most endearing are her interviews with people who own and interact with chickens as they groom them as show animals, raise them as 4-H projects, use them as therapy animals or rescue them from inhumane treatment.
What emerges is an entertaining picture of an animal that is too-often overlooked and under-appreciated, and the people who are devoted to them.
Danovich is a freelance journalist and culture reporter who has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many others. She lives outside Portland, where she keeps eight chickens.
Danovich’s talk is sponsored by the library’s NW Authors Series Committee that hosts authors monthly from September through May. The committee also conducts the Writers Read Celebration, which offers local writers an opportunity to write and read their own work on a specific theme. This year, the Writers Read Celebration is March 22, in the library and on Zoom. The theme is “Beach Noir.”
