Dirty Bird’s Events, Compost For Sale and Wally’s Worm Club

Submitted By: Kelleywebb731@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello Friends, Family and Fan’s of Dirty Bird’s!

Check out our booth at Garden Fest at the Grange on April 6th. We will have a home worm bin set up and some information on hand about the glories of worm composting aka vermicomposting. If you want some face-to-face time with the Dirty Bird Team, get in touch and we can set up a time to meet on the lot.

We will have Nehalem Valley Gold compost for sale April 12 – 14 on the lot (email to make an appointment). Locally made with cow manure, pig slop, straw and silage, organic farm and flower waste and other delicious ingredients that make this a gardener’s delight. Soil test results available for those of you who like to nerd out on the numbers. $5/5 gallon bucket. We can arrange for bigger loads and ongoing pickups until the 10-yard pile is gone. Email us if you are interested in purchasing compost, so we can schedule pick up times and payment with you.

Wally’s Worm Club
We will be continuing the Dirty Bird’s Worm Club, now lovingly called Wally’s Worm Club, as all of the worms share this name. We fixed the second bin and cleaned up around the lot, so keep the food scraps coming and tell your friends and neighbors to get on the worm composting train with us so we can keep all of this food waste out of the landfill and watch the worms turn it into black gold. We will be building more worm bins, offering worm castings for sale, and helping individuals get set up with their own home systems. Get in touch if you want in on Wally’s Worm action!

If you have a project you need help getting off the ground or want to use the lot for something fun let us know.

Offering: Meaning Making and Legacy Projects
Location: Virtual (Zoom)
Registration (required): www.northcoasteolcollective.com/events-one/meaning-making-and-legacy-projects-543ym-ymhy5
Presenter: Carolina Starrett, MFA and Co-Founder of North Coast EOL Collective

An artist talk and info session on the value of legacy projects in end-of-life care with co-founder Carolina Starrett.

Carolina Starrett, co-founder of the North Coast EOL Collective, explores the intricate structures of families, both physical and psychological, in her work. Originally from Southern California, Carolina contemplates the resilience inherent in each family iteration, considering how stories and language are embedded in the body and transmitted across generations.

With a dual focus on her roles as a doula and artist, Carolina employs materials and processes as tools for celebration and inquiry into how we collect, retain, and honor memories. Her artistic journey delves into the interplay between stories of family, community, and connection, inviting audiences to reflect on the profound capacity of objects to sustain and perpetuate relationships.

Carolina’s work serves as a meditation on the body as a vessel of love and memory, inviting viewers to contemplate the enduring significance of these intertwined elements in the fabric of human experience.

Wasted $4

Submitted By: codger817@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Because several sang the praises of Epoch Times, I decided to risk $4 and see for myself. I regret it now, the $4 would have been far better spent on ice cream. I would have enjoyed the ice cream.
Example 1, Headline 9,000 lost ballots. Alarming! How can we trust our elections?
Well, dig into the bottom of the story, turns out ballots were lost for a week and were found because tally of ballots received did not match number of votes cast. What the story doesn’t tell is that 308,000 votes were cast in the election (think having $3 in dimes and losing one). Good journalism?? No!
Example 2. Feature story on Ron Johnson, noble crusading Senator investigating every government miss-step he can find. Any mention of him being Putin-puppet who is convinced Ukraine aid should be withheld because Ukraine will lose. I see that as giving up on Democracy too soon.
Epoch Times says it’s deeply opposed to CCP (Chinese Communist Party), but I think it’s a fake. I think Epoch Times is really working for the CCP and the goal is to weaken America. It’s chock-full of false and misleading stories carefully crafted to undermine America unity and patriotism. Unity and patriotism are the foundation of our country’s might. Anything that undermines them serves the CCP.
It doesn’t hurt that they’re making tons of money in the process.
But what do I know, I could be wrong. I do know I wish I had bought the ice cream instead.

Herbal Workshop & Spa- Learn to Make Salve and Tinctures!

Submitted By: revolutionginger@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi there BBQ Land!

Just wanted to let you know there’s gonna be a super cool herbal class here at North Fork 53 in a few weeks.

I’ve been wanting to do more hands on workshops for a while now but the tea company kept me too busy to really get it going.

So this spring I asked my friend Julie at Laughing Rabbit Farm up near Astoria if she wanted to come down and share some of her herbal salve and tincture making skills.

Lucky for you, I’ve got a big jar of red poplar bud oil that’s been soaking in my pantry since last year.

So Julies gonna show us how to make the ultimate herbal first aid skin balm (aka the Balm of Gilead).

It’s a beeswax salve that smells delicious- like vanilla amber, and heals sunburn, bug bites, scrapes-even arthritis pain.

She’s also bringing my all time favorite spring herb- nettles!

If you have allergies, anemia or your body just needs a deep green boost after a long winter- nettles are the best.

She’ll show us how to create a nettle tincture from fresh and dried nettles and even how to make nettle pesto.

After the workshop, if you want to really treat your self- you can add on an herbal wood fired sauna and cold plunge where you’ll get a chance to play with a selection of Julie’s herbal skin oils and a clay mask for a nice spring body detox.

If you’ve been wanting learn about herbs but don’t know where to start- this is your chance! Getting hands on with plant medicine is the best way to learn how to make your own.

In just a few hours you’ll learn to make the Balm of Gilead and a Nettle Tincture- plus you’ll get lots of recipes to keep on playing with at home.

Only 12 spots are open so grab yours before they’re gone.

Save The Date: The Green Reaper April 27, 2:00-4:00 NCRD

Dear Conscious Aging & Community Connections Friends,
At our inaugural meeting last October, the # 1 topic you requested was Green Burial. The team heard you, and so we are presenting an expert on the topic. Join us with your questions, concerns, and experiences.

The Green Reaper to Appear in Nehalem!
Everything you want to know about green burial

Elizabeth Fournier, aka The Green Reaper, will speak at the North Coast Recreation District (NCRD), 36155 9th Street, Nehalem. The presentation will be held in the Gallery Saturday, April 27 from 2:00-4:00; $10 cash at the door.

Every year conventional funerals bury millions of tons of wood, concrete, and metals, as well as millions of gallons of carcinogenic embalming fluid. There is a more environmentally conscious and affordable way, and Elizabeth Fournier, affectionately dubbed the “Green Reaper,” walks you through it. She provides comprehensive and compassionate guidance, covering everything from green burial planning and home funeral basics to legal guidelines and outside-the-box options, such as burials at sea. Fournier points the way to green burial practices that consider both the environmental well-being of the planet and the economic well-being of loved ones.

Elizabeth is the author of The Green Burial Guidebook: Everything You Need to Plan an Affordable, Environmentally Friendly Burial. She is a member of the Advisory Board for the Green Burial Council, and the owner and operator of Cornerstone Funeral Services in Boring, Oregon.

Elizabeth will have copies of her books available for purchase.

For more information on Elizabeth, visit her website: thegreenreaper.org

This event is presented by Conscious Aging and Community Connections, Manzanita.
