ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT

Submitted By: dixiedarrow@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
I haven’t heard of anyone in the Legislature who supports Measure 118 on the Nov. 5 ballot. The initiative would increase business taxes in order to give most Oregonians an annual tax rebate estimated at $750.
During a virtual town hall last month, several Portland-area lawmakers denounced the proposal, which was going through the signature verification process as Initiative Petition 17. Rep. Lisa Reynolds, D-Beaverton, called it “a totally twisted version of the kicker.”
“It’s another example of out-of-state monied interests using Oregon’s low bar to get something on the ballot to create an experiment here in Oregon,” she said. “It happened with Measure 110, which we had to roll back after a lot of gnashing of teeth. And so there will be very concerted efforts by many people, including elected officials, to defeat IP 17.”

Rep. Dacia Grayber, D-Portland, added, “If there is a legislator supporting it, they’re supporting it very quietly.”
Opponents are not quiet. Led by Oregon Business & Industry, a lengthy list of groups created a coalition against the measure, contending it would implement the largest tax increase in state history.
Oregon Senate Republicans issued a press release Wednesday unanimously opposing the measure and thanking Gov. Tina Kotek for also opposing it. The Taxpayers Association of Oregon put it this way last week: “The tax is so bad, even Gov. Kotek is against it. That’s bad.”

Savonnerie Pendant Lighting for sale – open box

Submitted By: glowpurple@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Savonnerie Pendant Lighting bought from Amazon a few months ago. We painted the white candlestick gold to match our other lights. Original color was white. After hanging it up, we found out it is too big for the hall way so we bought a smaller one.
Currently Amazon is asking for $199 for this light. We would like to sell it for $75 only.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YK75VPG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We already discarded the box but all the parts are still there.

Response to Manzanita Water Fund

Submitted By: mkuestner10@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The good news is that the Manzanita Budget Comm. reviewed this year’s budget, including Indirect Cost Allocation methodology this Spring. With no axe to grind, and dealing with legal, municipal and cost realities, after rigorous discussions, the budget and methodology were voted on and approved by a unanimous vote of City Council. Half of the Budget Comm. consists of highly qualified volunteers who applied, were interviewed and then appointed by unanimous vote of our elected/appointed representatives. The other half of the Budget Comm. consists of the City Council and our highly qualified Chief Budget Officer, Leila Aman. This process, which by law happens every year, assures that the Manzanita budget is secure, legal and produced with the utmost professionalism. In contrast, resident Kugler wants Manzanita to follow his personal budgetary opinions, which consistently display an astounding lack of understanding of municipal budgeting or budgetary acumen. Every year, we hear the same tired, irrelevant tirades. A few years back, he even threatened to sue the city if they didn’t follow his opinions. Thank you to the City of Manzanita for following the law and common sense, and including resident input from all of us, not just a self-appointed “expert”. We have real problems to face and exciting opportunities facing the city. Let’s continue to focus on these, or actual challenges.

Next Conscious Aging program at the Pine Grove is this coming Monday, August 12, from 2-4

The conscious aging and community connections program is held on the second Monday of each month from 2-4pm. Sponsorship by the Pine Grove Community House allows us to keep admission at $5 per session.

All proceeds go directly to the Pine Grove Community House.

Our overall program goals are to bring people in our community together, to get to know one another at a deeper level, and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives. Everyone is welcome to join us!

On August 12th, the theme for our gathering is Enrich Your Life Now, No Matter Your Age; yes, into your 80’s & 90’s and beyond. How do we ensure that we are fully savoring the life we have ahead of us? We’ll share tools that others (ourselves in some cases) have used to enrich their lives as they age. From Bucket Lists to Anti-bucket Lists, from collecting 70 New Experiences for a 70th year, to Awe Walks and learning to Densify your Time. This session will be part short presentation and part discussion, broken into smaller discussion groups. Bring your curiosity and any tools you use successfully to enrich your own current life, and plans for your future years.

August 12, 2 – 4pm at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita. Please arrive before 2 as we will start promptly.

Upcoming programs:
Our committee is busy planning future topics. We’ll send out announcements as they get finalized.

If you have suggestions for topics you’d like to explore in this group, please let us know.

We, the members of the conscious living and community connections team, are so very grateful to be part of this wonderful community!
